I don't think they're going to make him a starter. He has the stuff, but I think the worry is that his frame wouldn't hold up for a long career as a starter. His description of 5'7'' is pretty generous. He's really around 5'5''.
I'm from KC and I gotta say, I love watching him pitch. He pitches like he's 6'1''.
@RenegadeReplicant I think his frame is fine, he has trained with EC so im pretty sure he has the right muscles to let him pitch in the starting rotation as well as long jevity
@hanmansucks ... You know most pitchers pitch from the stretch when there is a runner on right? It's not like he (or his coaches) are morons and keep doing a slow windup to gift bases to the runners.
@wroth91 ... Yeah, I realize that, but isn't he warming up in the stretch? That doesn't look like a wind up to me. Either way I was just making light of the delivery, I am sure that it is very effective in hiding the ball from the batter. It'll be interesting to see if he can overcome his lack of stature and become an effective big league reliever.
@hanmansucks That's a wind up. Watch his right foot, it steps backwards. If he was in the stretch, his front foot would come straight up or if he was slidestepping (which I doubt he does), it would go straight toward the plate. Some guys struggle to repeat the mechanics of a traditional full windup so they look for ways to simplify it.
