Almost everything in brawl can be countered or escaped, and what you can't escape you avoid at all costs. IC's are based on cg's and can EASILY be killed if you just seek out Nana. If you suck against the grab just learn the fucking matchup with your character and kill her before they grab you. It's todays metagame, and complaining about that is like complaining about world physics.

Just because someone uses chaingrabs doesn't mean they are using "no skill moves", it means they are using their character to their fullest potential and are not leaving possible kill strategies behind because someone thinks they are "cheap". I've seen plenty of people who will, when faced with a strategy they think they cannot overcome, cry "cheap" or "overpowered" or "broken". The highest skilled players do not do this, and know plenty of ways to get around people using these strategies.

Nobody uses this tactic. If you are playing with a friend that does this the kill will not count since everyone knows that's not fair. It's not the game, it's how you play it.

If you're going to play it competitively, you're just going to have to allow everything in it. MLG doesn't ban Ice Climber's chain grab. They DO force players to stop before 300% and they don't allow certain infinites (Marth/Squirtles against Ness, DDD's against Bowser/DK/Kirby/Samus/Luigi/Mario) and MKs Infinite Cape Glitch, but they DO NOT ban this and for good reason. Deal with it.
The IC's chaingrabs make the ice climbers who they are. You can't just ban them from tourneys just cause they can rape. It takes skill to pull off these chaingrabs, and a lot of timing. it's like saying ZSS should be banned because she can pull off 0-death combos, and same goes for Falco and DDD. It's their metagame, and if you don't like it... avoid getting grabbed.

I know, it's much easier said than done. But doesnt mean anything in competive Smash. Not Getting grabbed actually takes skill and so does ICs chaingrab. Its something like Falcos Walking-CG, this one actually takes hours or even days of practice for some people. But hey think about it, the ICs are on their 7th spot on the tier list FOR A REASON. You see more Diddys, MKs, Falcos and Snakes winning major tournaments more often than ICs. Why? Because they are better characters.

it actually takes a lot of practice just to master the chain grab. even though i can use most ppl in the game, it's very difficult to make sure u dont mess up, but that's my opinion. plus u have to get grabbed in order to lose, so it's another way of saying don't touch the ground, lol
The funny thing is, people complain about chain grabs in Brawl, but no one ever complains about combos in Melee, which happen much more often and are possible with many more characters. They are also much easier to do.
@Deboogs both players can easily do combos to one another in melee. Because of that, they have to play carefully as well, because they don't want to run into battle flailing their arms like a fucking idiot. BRAWL on the other hand, you can infinite (like the video) and with some characters, all you need is a wall, and you're guaranteed a win.

@narutosuper1fan Actually, here in Houston, when wii do tournaments, they ban infinite standings. So if you keep doing the same move and the opponent can't move for 3 seconds, you have to stop or you disqualified. You can do chain, but not for more than 3 seconds, and you can't loop hole and try and stop for lyk 2 seconds and just go back and do it again.
How the hell can you call THIS fair??? All it takes is one grab from the IC to kill a person. You say 'Dont get grrabbed' but that doesnt excuse the fact that the IC only needs to break through a persons defense only ONCE to get a kill.
@kingmagnius Shuttle Loop, Dimensional Cape, Mach Tornado (if you land about half of it), Drill Rush (if you land about 3/4ths of it), Dsmash, Fsmash, Usmash (if all hits connect), Jab (if all hits connect with just tapping once), Ftilt (if you do all the hits), Utilt, 100% Ledge Attack, Nair, Bair (if all hits connect), Fair (if all hits connect), Glide Attack, and all of his throws do 10% or more. He only has 7 attacks that dont do 10% or more, and that's if you count things like his Pummel.

It's a valid argument. But tourney rules are based on improving the metagame for every character. Stage hazards and items are not part of the metagame at all; they actually hurt its development. Chaingrabs, on the other hand, are part of the Ice Climbers' metagame. It's not like it is gamebreaking in any way either, the ICs have major weaknesses that make up for it.
"don't get grabbed" is simplifying too much, but it's true. Good spacing wrecks the IC's grabs. Also, separating them severely handicaps the player, which weakens the ICs matchups.
Chaingrabs and desyncs are tricks that balance out the ICs huge weaknesses. It doesn't break them, because they obviously don't win tourneys.
@1337d0od ice climbers grab range is extremely limited. you can outrange it with projectiles, your own grab, or a f-smash. or mix up aerials with characters like marth. you just get angry everytime a pro I.C. player is able to chain grab and 0-death you. it is frustrating, but think about it; it takes skill to chaingrab with I.C.'s. you need to desynch, time the alternating grabs, walking dashing, predicting DI's. it's not as easy as it looks.

@glitchman161 it doesn't help, considering that the ice climbers don't have to do a dash/run in order to get the next grab in, and besides that, the ice climbers in a way are kinda immune to tripping, in the sense that its practicly impossible for BOTH ice climbers to trip at the exact same time unless it was caused by an item.

and how they managed to make the game LESS balanced then both 64 and melee combined when melee was RUSHED and yet brawl had several years of development is beyond me....serioiusly, by some stroke of amazing luck, melee was actually incredably balanced.....brawl...not so much.

I'm pretty sure anyone's reaction to this vid has to be, "OMG! Hacks!" Any exploit that takes away your opponent's ability to...well...PLAY, should definitely be frowned upon. If you're going to play it competitively, you're just going to have to allow everything in it. MLG doesn't ban Ice Climber's chain grab. They DO force players to stop before 300% and they don't allow certain infinites (Marth/Squirtles against Ness, DDD's against Bowser/DK/Kirby/Samus/Luigi/Mario) and MKs Infinite Cape Glitch, but they DO NOT ban this and for good reason. Deal with it.

The IC's chaingrabs make the ice climbers who they are. You can't just ban them from tourneys just cause they can rape. It takes skill to pull off these chaingrabs, and a lot of timing. it's like saying ZSS should be banned because she can pull off 0-death combos, and same goes for Falco and DDD. It's their metagame, and if you don't like it... avoid getting grabbed.

I know, it's much easier said than done. But doesnt mean anything in competive Smash. Not Getting grabbed actually takes skill and so does ICs chaingrab. Its something like Falcos Walking-CG, this one actually takes hours or even days of practice for some people. But hey think about it, the ICs are on their 7th spot on the tier list FOR A REASON. You see more Diddys, MKs, Falcos and Snakes winning major tournaments more often than ICs. Why? Because they are better characters.

@soicanremember and brawl is far from a good game, its dull, boring, slower paced then melee, retardedly campy, and forces a factor of luck into ALL matches(aka tripping) not to mention certain characters are either insanely OPed, (metaknight espiicially, ) insanely UPed(link, ganon, zelda, jigglypuff, mario, c.falcon, several others) or just flat out broken such as the Ice climbers above, don't blame the competitive scene for all of brawls faults, blame nintendo for not catching em themselves.

@soicanremember had nintendo actually payed attention when making the characters in brawl, and the whole game overall, brawl could of been able to please both sides, casual and competitive, AND be overall more fun for both sides. the Only thing brawl got right was the soundtrack, its soundtrack is amazing, but other then that brawl is inferior to melee in every possible way.

it actually takes a lot of practice just to master the chain grab. even though i can use most ppl in the game, it's very difficult to make sure u dont mess up, but that's my opinion. plus u have to get grabbed in order to lose, so it's another way of saying don't touch the ground, lol

The funny thing is, people complain about chain grabs in Brawl, but no one ever complains about combos in Melee, which happen much more often and are possible with many more characters. They are also much easier to do.

@Deboogs both players can easily do combos to one another in melee. Because of that, they have to play carefully as well, because they don't want to run into battle flailing their arms like a fucking idiot. BRAWL on the other hand, you can infinite (like the video) and with some characters, all you need is a wall, and you're guaranteed a win.
Melee takes much more skill than brawl

@narutosuper1fan Actually, here in Houston, when wii do tournaments, they ban infinite standings. So if you keep doing the same move and the opponent can't move for 3 seconds, you have to stop or you disqualified. You can do chain, but not for more than 3 seconds, and you can't loop hole and try and stop for lyk 2 seconds and just go back and do it again.

@kingmagnius Shuttle Loop, Dimensional Cape, Mach Tornado (if you land about half of it), Drill Rush (if you land about 3/4ths of it), Dsmash, Fsmash, Usmash (if all hits connect), Jab (if all hits connect with just tapping once), Ftilt (if you do all the hits), Utilt, 100% Ledge Attack, Nair, Bair (if all hits connect), Fair (if all hits connect), Glide Attack, and all of his throws do 10% or more. He only has 7 attacks that dont do 10% or more, and that's if you count things like his Pummel.

It's a valid argument. But tourney rules are based on improving the metagame for every character. Stage hazards and items are not part of the metagame at all; they actually hurt its development. Chaingrabs, on the other hand, are part of the Ice Climbers' metagame. It's not like it is gamebreaking in any way either, the ICs have major weaknesses that make up for it.

"don't get grabbed" is simplifying too much, but it's true. Good spacing wrecks the IC's grabs. Also, separating them severely handicaps the player, which weakens the ICs matchups.
Chaingrabs and desyncs are tricks that balance out the ICs huge weaknesses. It doesn't break them, because they obviously don't win tourneys.

@1337d0od ice climbers grab range is extremely limited. you can outrange it with projectiles, your own grab, or a f-smash. or mix up aerials with characters like marth. you just get angry everytime a pro I.C. player is able to chain grab and 0-death you. it is frustrating, but think about it; it takes skill to chaingrab with I.C.'s. you need to desynch, time the alternating grabs, walking dashing, predicting DI's. it's not as easy as it looks.
