Jake is not playing the same notes or tempo but that vibe is so strong . He's unleashed and just kicking the guitars ASS . It's like he's ultimate fighting the 6 string and owning!!!!!
I have to disagree. I think Pearl Jam, Sound Garden, and Alice in Chains weren't simplistic at all. I feel they brought something different to the table, as a matter of fact you should listen to Candle Box's first album and you'll see what I mean...a lot of jazz/blues fusion going on there.
As far as Cobain, his music was punk and shouldn't be placed in this catagory.
I don't think grunge music ruined anything. i think there were just way too many Metal Bands and the good ones got lost in the mix. People wanted something different because they felt alienated, lost and discontent. The POP METAL wasn't addressing their issue. Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Stone Temple Pilots filled a void, It just sucks that a lot of great music was tossed a side. I do think the media was mostly responsible for the fall of metal.
we had too much commercial rock with all the slaughters and firehouse type bands out there and when grunge came around that's all there was for a time.
it's been the way of american record labels for the last several decades to lick their fingers, wave 'em in the air and see which way the wind's blowing - then they hammer the shit out of just that style til we're sick of it.
we need more bands to get the attention they deserve from many styles.

Wow, that was fun. You know, if Badlands had been around when Jimi was... You know they would have hooked up. Oh well, one can dream.
