I taped this show on my VCR just after I started skydiving in 1989, and I remember watching it over and over! I later met Greg Robertson while jumping in Colorado. This episode was a cool part of my collection of memories back when I had only a relatively low number of jumps.
And, @gavinb9999: he could not have held onto her while opening his parachute - the forces are too great. I've tried this twice (it's called a "Mr. Bill" jump), and it was only successful when at very subterminal speed.
@gavinb9999 nah man that wouldn't work you decelerate from 120 to 20 mph in a few seconds when you deploy, and he wouldn't be able to turn or pull the brakes before touching down so they'd come down probably harder than she did.
MAN IF I WAS THAT BOY I WOULD BE SO SCARED

he could of held her and pulled his shoot to avoid more damage to the girl and to land safely but the thing that matters is that he saved her life

I first read about this in elementary school. It was a very nice picture book titled "Three American Heroes." I'm a senior in High School today.

such a scary situation to be in.
that is why i don't like parachutes, god knows if a person faints or it won't open.
the other parachutist diver is a hero for risking theirown life for her.

20 years since the show first aired. Wow! This is something.
I remember reading a book about this event, but I can't remember what it is. Amazing story.
