Oh, my gad, look at this hideious techno scenery/costumes!! What are the Germans doing to their own mythology!!! Cosima and Richard must be turning over in their graves--the techno directors are trying to ruin Wagner--and much else of opera. They are Frankensteing monsters--schweinhunts!! Fortunately, these mugs can't ruin Wagner's music. Thielmann should be ashamed of himself allowing these garbargy sets to come to Bayruth.
@windstorm1000 I suspect it's kind of sad for a conductor of his genius... do this Magnificent music AT BAYREUTH with their stupid staging, or... pass it up? What a horrible choice. I have to agree about the modernism-techno nonsense for staging though. It was UGLY 40 years ago and still is, it's just been done to death. How about a classical RING sometime???
i will ha e to wait 20 years to go to Bayreuth since the waiting list is 10 years and im only 16 but that is if i have enough money to go allthough i herd it is better if you go on the days because the autoban is full up so people cancel so the tickets are reduced and affordable but is that a risk worth taking since i live in britian there could be a trip for nothing
Saw Frankfurt Opera's Rheingold last May.That was superb, with the best Wagner tuba playing I've ever heard to compliment a great orchestra cast and production.Just not possible in Britain!
nice recording! i was life in bayreught in 2009 for the whole ring - stage and lighting great, orchestra and director fantastic, singers were really good except linda watson... and no, people were not booing
I must say that I was quite disappointed from Thielemann's conducting of Rheingold and Walküre past year in Bayreuth. Not only the singers were terrible, but Thielemann himself also was quite colorless and shallow. Live the orchestra didn't sound as glorious as it sounds on the recording.
(Although, Siegfried and Götterdämmerung were incredible, absolutely terrifying...)
What a disappointment, Thielemann does an excellent job, the orchestra sounds really good...the singers are I think without exception second rate. What a shame.
@IchiTheRipper , Bayreuth don,t accept ( until today, in the future I don,t know it with Katarina ), " star system " of merchadising, I readed it in the history of Bayreuth
i wonder if it could be this one from 2008 not 2009?"Recorded live at the Bayreuth Festival in 2008, this production stars a host of international stars including Michelle Breedt, Albert Dohmen, Stephen Gould, Hans-Peter Konig, Linda Watson & Eva-Maria Westbroek. Christian Thielemann, one of the most sought-after conductors in the world... This 14-disc CD box set marks the first ever Opus Arte CD release, and the start of an exciting new direction for the company."
I meant the director(for katarina wagner)

Are the scenery in a modernist style,?
I hate modernisms especially in Wagner, is katarina the composer, she has done a lot to develop a bad reputation

No, Loge: this is not bel canto. - It is Wagner...

This comment has received too many negative votes show
Bottom line: IMHO, the definitive Ring recording is the one with Solti. Ironically,
Solti was Jewish. Looks like he understood Nazi mentality best ....

Geniales Dirigat! Aber die Inszenierung und die Sänger....zum Davolaufen. Wo ist das Bayreuther Niveau geblieben.
