What a NIKON beast!! i have one and i love it :P Great for time-lapse photography. i just need to trigger it for time-lapse with this little remote TEMPUS. works with MEX 5, 5N and 7. website at: tempus.bymac.org
your shots at the end are amazing I love the effect where you make the little worlds. Didnt you make a video tutorial on how to do this at one point? I cant seem to find it anymore
@dombower im not sure really i dont know to much about cameras im trying to find out some information bechause i have a vivitar dvr 810hd and it has digital lens that is 7,23mm f2.8 and i didnt know if any fisheye would fit or not
@fatalised neither of them have anything to do with the part that fits onto the camera the mm is the focal length the f is the aperture, done a number of videos on them already
Im new to photography only started getting into it 2months ago i orginally bought the Nikon D90 with the kit lens and got myself a Nikon 10.5mm f2.8 Fisheye lens to film my skate videos... but now i want to go in depth and start taking pictures need advice for a good Landscape Lens and a good Portrait Lens if you could recommend any that would be great help... keep up the videos and happy snapping
I got one of these Nikon Fisheye lenses, my last one, I sold everything else, if anyone is looking for one hit me up, it looks like new with both front and rear caps as well as a carry pouch. $500 takes it home.
A fisheye lens is made for more then just an effect. like you said, they give a 180 degree wide angle view. they only have distortion because there would be no other way to fit a 180 degree shot on a digital or even 35 mm sensor. yeah, some people like the effect and it can be cool when you're taking shots of buildings from below and such but its not uncommon for people to just take that photo and "de-fish" it so that way you just get a panoramic-type ultra wide angle shot.
Yo Dom.... Got my D700 buddy as I mentioned before.
Now I am scuppered cause I had wanted to get one of these lenses, and now I can't really without having to use the DX crop mode on the D700, but I'd still like a fisheye.
Any ideas buddy? have you an opinion on other fisheyes at all for the FX format?
Well, I just reckoned it was a waste type of thing if you know what I mean. Like if there was an option to have a fisheye that would allow me to use all of the frame of the d700 retaining my 12mp or whatever image instead of dropping it to like 6 or whatever it is.
A lot of my stuff is all like... really low light at concerts and stuff. I am looking at the tokina 17mm f3.5 lens as an alternative for now (2nd hand but who cares at the money). Ever had any experience? Cheers Dom!
@jonnyweston Try to find your self a 16mm Fisheye from Nikon its made for a 35mm full frame formate camera's i'm having the same issue as you :D D700 too Cheers
Awesome video man. Very helpful. I have one question, hopefully you can help me out. I really want that fisheye lens but it's kinda expensive and someone at the store suggested a BOWER 8mm f35 fisheye. Is it any good? or is the Nikon 10.5mm worth it?
Ur Videos are the best on the net...its feels like I am holding the lens or the cameras, very clear n fun explanations and also, where most of the pros dont have vidoes out for certain lens or cameras, u do... wtg bro
Hi Dom, I have a Nikon D90 and i would love to buy a fisheye lense; however, I haven't decide. What would you recommend me a nikon fisheye 10.5mm f/2.8 or Sigma 10mm f/2.8.
7:47 is absolutely amazing mate. I was wondering just out of interest if you are a professional photographer? or if it is just a hobby of yours. Im 17 and I've just gotten into photography. My camera is a nikon d90 and i can't wait to get one of these lenses, as i would like to take up a job in skateboard photography. If you are a professional/amateur photographer do you have any particular advice as to what to do to get photos into magazines etc. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks =]
whats up DOM...just wana say i have seen many of your reviews and I like. I specifically look for you on here when I am curious of a lens. Keep up the good work brother. Paul
Thanks for the review. I've been considering buying a fish eye lens especially for the distortion for those big jumps folks do in extreme sports. I thought the versatility of the nikon 12 - 24mm would be a better investment, but you don't really get that awesome distortion do you?
How did you make the photo which is shown at 7:02?
I use Photomerge to merge my photos into a panorama, but I've never been able to do something like that picture ^^
Can you perhaps send it to me?
Great video btw., I got my first dSLR about 6 months ago shortly before I turned 19 years old, a Nikon D60, and I'm planning to buy my 3rd lens, this 10.5 Nikon Fisheye lens.
Is that a good choice for a 'rookie' like me or do which lens do you advice me to start with?
With the program Adobe Bridge you have this option called Tools > Photoshop > Photomerge which allows you to merge 2 or more photos on 5 different ways, it's an easy way to make panorama photos.
That way you can also get some of the effects that dombower showed in this video.
to get the little planet look you have to take a big 360 degree panoramic photo and also get as much of the sky and ground in, then using the free software GIMP, use the filter that says Polar coordinates and then a bit of cropping and lens distrotion and .... tada!
Hey man, I'd love to have this lens too. But like you said...quite expensive so...gotta wait for while. Like the moment when your mother or sister asked something..LOL....Good light man. Bye
