I'm not saying 9 was a bad game, in fact I rather enjoyed being able to play a 2-player final fantasy. But the game simply doesn't measure up to 7 at the very least.

@disturbedking8 I think the more important factor for why VII is considered important in gaming history is because it brought the JRPG to a larger Western audience due to its high production values - that many FMVs was amazing back then. Not saying the characters and plot didn't have anything to do with it, but the games after like VIII and IX weren't as 'new' as VII was.
@Bulbaboy I personally like 8, possibly 10 best. But I still realize that 7 was the first to implement all the things that made 8-10 great.. But then they made 11 and 12... sigh.
@shagohad3 12 had absolutely nothing going for it. The voice acting was terrible, the graphics, if they improved at all, were just minorly improved. The characters were transparent for the most part, with the exception of Balthier. He was actually a reason I could tolerate the game. The battle system was awful; I was looking forward to a final fantasy that wasn't turn based, just for a twist, but I was severely disappointed. Also, every single battle, without exception, was won with quickenings.

I loved their voices in XII, the sound was crisp, the accents were fluent, and all the voices matched their appearances perfectly. The script was also superb and exquisitely localized. In a game that was very dialogue heavy, having nice voices to listen to was an Occuria-send, I swear.
@disturbedking8 Also, how the hell were you winning against anything after the early game with Quickenings? Quickenings use up all your MP near instantly, and even if you chain enough of them, you're never going to do as much damage late-game as you would with regular weapons or magic (in half the time it takes to watch QNGS over and over).
Spells like Arise and Scathe were so integral to beating hard enemies; what game were you playing?

@disturbedking8 12 Had some of my favorite characters, probably since 9. Not just the primary adventurers but all the background characters, they propped up the setting so well. And what a setting, man, surreal fantasy caked thick with post-war political tension? Hardly ever used quickenings, either, they were a drag. The less interesting fights ended with those. The gambit system, by late game, was interesting and tactical as shit.
The first time I booted up this game, I waited patiently not having very high hopes (I'd never enjoyed FF8 and FF7 until I played this)...

:O :O :O Just got my ps3 & a flatscreen for birthday/christmas. This games graphics are so beutiful. This was the last great Final Fantasy. 10 & 10-2 were just meh. XI was online so fk that. XII ripped every FF stapel out that i knew/loved. Turn-based combat, summon names, etc. It did EVERYTHING wrong. I hated the story as it was WAY too political/war based, the characters were NEVER interesting. I really hope they get their shit together and 'go back to their roots'.

The story was never interesting being entirely based on the war, the characters had no personality, the combat was uninjoyable, the summon system was never useful & was much easier to just do a chain to instakill most bosses so there was never any challenge. Sonny, Classic means NES and SNES..or even Game Boy, not Advanced, Not Color..Game Boy...with Final Fantasy Legend (even though its only named final fantasy, its actually the first in the Sa-Ga series)
Play some FF5, 6, and 2 and the actual 3 :T THOSE are classics.

Of all the video game consoles, the first playstation is the one wich had the best games in my opinion. Final fantasy 7 and 9, metal gear solid and castlevania symphony of the night. Those 2 final fantasys are also pretty much the only games wich almost made me cry except for metal gear solid 4.
I just got an emulation of this for my computer I hope it works. When I used to play it on the PSX I never got past the sword fight between Blank & Zidane because it was so much fun to do.

Finished the game at the age of 13 for the first time, was emotionally shaken. Ten years later, haha, no change. This game doesn't fail to enthrall you with its epic story and great characters.

I think Freya is one of the most underappreciated Final Fantasy heroines. Why? It's because she isn't hot and doesn't have giant tits.
Freya is one of my favorite Final Fantasy characters if not my favorite. I always been a fan of species other than humans as party members in Final Fantasy, she is a Dragon Knight which is just awesome and...she has the most sad story of all Final Fantasy characters.

:O :O :O Just got my ps3 & a flatscreen for birthday/christmas. This games graphics are so beutiful. This was the last great Final Fantasy. 10 & 10-2 were just meh. XI was online so fk that. XII ripped every FF stapel out that i knew/loved. Turn-based combat, summon names, etc. It did EVERYTHING wrong. I hated the story as it was WAY too political/war based, the characters were NEVER interesting. I really hope they get their shit together and 'go back to their roots'.

The story was never interesting being entirely based on the war, the characters had no personality, the combat was uninjoyable, the summon system was never useful & was much easier to just do a chain to instakill most bosses so there was never any challenge. I just didn't find it as enjoyable as the classic ones on the playstation

@sephiroth21347 I have to agree, the characters in these games have started to lose what makes them characters in the first place. You'll hear fans talk about the characters from classic games all the time, but when does anybody ever mention Vaan or Gabranth?

Sonny, Classic means NES and SNES..or even Game Boy, not Advanced, Not Color..Game Boy...with Final Fantasy Legend (even though its only named final fantasy, its actually the first in the Sa-Ga series)
Play some FF5, 6, and 2 and the actual 3 :T THOSE are classics.

I wish i could play 3-6 to have the full FF experience but i cant find any copy of them or a good emulator/ROM of them to play. I dont have any handheld systems so any ports I cant play. The 1st FF's I played as a kid were 7-9 so they will always have a place in my heart. Sorry for not being able to choose when i was born so i couldve been around for the 'classics'

@PantsheadMD The game play was actually fun and not a boring grindfest, and the story wasn't full of gay jpop and 12 year old scantily dressed girls and terribly written dialog. It was the most mature game to come out of japan in a long fucking time.

Why did Square remake FF10 in HD instead of this gem?! They need to either release an HD collection themselves or allow another company to do so. All of the Playstation Final Fantasys in beautiful HD would be amazing.

I remember playing ff9 all night, pausing it when I went to bed, waking up and unpausing to play before school, pausing it again, then unpausing it and playing it again when I got back home from school. Why not just save? Because I couldn't bear to wait for my file to load. Oh 2nd grade (:

i honestly think that I - X were the best FF games ever. X-2? Decent in my opinion but not memorable. XI? Meh... XII? Say what you want but i never completed that one cause i got bored. IX was the first FF game i ever played and the first i completed, i simply love it to this day, games like that were the reason that people made consoles, great story, graphics for its time, just wow. XIII was too linear from what i heard so for now ill stick to my opinion: I to X ftw and long live Nobuo Uematsu

@KiroZ1992 I don't understand why people always put X with the other good ones, it's very different and can't really be compared to them, it was the one which made the transition from open world exploration to linear as hell (except for X-2)... oh and X-XIV are all horrible pieces of shit. I won't say that X is HORRIBLE but compared to VII and IX? ... LOL it is a piece of shit.

I would LOVE to get my hands on FFIX again. I loved this game, probably my favorite FF game EVER!! The FMV graphics were absolutely prime for the day and the music was also very good. Not to mention the epic story line! They just don't make RPG games like this anymore :(

@LoftyProduction Oh don't worry, I know that merging with Enix was the worst mistake Square ever made. Final Fantasy XIII was one of the worst games I ever played. And Kingdom hearts that has Disney characters in it... Really square? But I can respect your opinion that you didn't like I-V. I personally don't like III myself since it's one of the hardest games I ever played before in my life. Lol. But I seem to LOVE I and V, Since those were my first FF games ever. But IX is my favorite of them.

Of all the video game consoles, the first playstation is the one wich had the best games in my opinion. Final fantasy 7 and 9, metal gear solid and castlevania symphony of the night. Those 2 final fantasys are also pretty much the only games wich almost made me cry except for metal gear solid 4.

Freya is one of my favorite Final Fantasy characters if not my favorite. I always been a fan of species other than humans as party members in Final Fantasy, she is a Dragon Knight which is just awesome and...she has the most sad story of all Final Fantasy characters.
