  • well this is not legal in china.. which makes sense.

america just LIES ... all LIES

  • China is not much different than the dictatorship in North Korea... both suck...glad I live in a free country not China or North Korea lol

  • 他们干什么?反对什么?

  • @henrychina1988 反对磁旋浮列车

  • Democracy derives from people's life.

  • bs. they just want to get more relocation fee.

  • dirty shanghainese just want to benefit themselves

they never care about society or our nation.

  • 原来1月7号那天有游行哦?!我怎么都不知道呢?忙着约会了,呵呵。。。那天我也在徐家汇的说

  • you are crazy ,guy!

    china is not north korea.

  • It's true that Shanghai is more democratic than Beijing lol, you won't get shot in Beijing, but the police there will stop u doing things like this.

  • billions of dollars that these citizens are most likely going to get taxed. -taxes are low in china i ve lived there like no sles tax few if any local taxes no fuel taxes , taxes are no a protestable thing in china for they generaly do not exist compared to any western nation

  • For now

  • Dumb asshole! Come on! Guys! Be cool!

  • 爱我家园,反对磁悬浮!

  • ¿Qué chingados dice ahi?

  • A protest against having the MagLev Train that can travel at over 500km/hr... hardly makes any pollution if any at all... and produces hardly any noise? Could somebody please let me know exactly why is there this response? My guess would be the billions of dollars that these citizens are most likely going to get taxed.

  • yeah taxes or either their homes were going to be knocked down to make way for the train OR both

  • ah... i forgot that it could cause many homes to get knocked down, thank you.

  • Maybe if you want more info on the maglev i advise you to watch a TV Show called MegaStructures - Future Trains.

  • Thank You, molvi1988.

It just occured to me just now that what was being chanted is most likely said in English.

    Halfway... Simple

    Always... Heaven

  • wtf are you talking about? this is a PROTEST against the government, this shows the exact opposite of what you're thinking. Besides, communism is an economic ideology - has nothing to do how govenment is ran.

  • HOHO, awesome, cool. 反对有理

  • in fact, it's only a topical piece of view. you only see the teens shouting, but you can't see the man sitting behind. that very common in china. when the government say yes, there's always a group of people want a No, no matter right or wrong. it's not where the reason rules, it's their naive thinking and the mask man's wanting conspiring.

  • I can understand people being against the government destroying homes, and not working with the citizens to plan the train, but you would have this problem if you tried to do this type of planning with any train. Maglev is still a lot quieter than normal trains, and maglev power will solve our energy crisis.

This is just REALLY bad planning by the Shanghai planning board, it doesn't mean that maglev isn't a good idea.

  • The magnetism is absolutely no problem on the german transrapid.

The japanese system works different. There are much higher magnetic forces - but mainly to the passengers.

  • The only thing I have against MagLev is that the company convinced the Chinese government to use eminent domain to build the track - the chinese government threw people out of their homes and confiscated property to build the track. I believe it's important to respect private property, and so I don't like governments confiscating property from people. But the MagLev technology itself is a great invention that makes transportation quicker, and it's good to build maglev and not regular trains.

  • its not a race compition folks. Consuming everything in site is nothing to be proud of. I am refering to the western world and myself. Don't go there China. place valueupon people not things

  • Why are they against the train?

  • They are afraid of plumping price of their houses if the train had been built near their district. People believe that strong magnetism is harmful to health.

  • who said theres no freedom of Speech in China, theres no violent cops here swinging clubs and kick people ass like in a lot of western countries.

  • @diuleeseafood search here in youtube "china black jail".. see the freedom of speech...

  • american mutts envy Chinese pure race !

  • its not just olympics, our wisdom in Martial arts influcenced the whole world. most importantly, Chinese is the only race that has surpassed the white race for 18 centuries out of 20 centuries and now whites are so worried about the reemergence of the Chinese which will push them back into the caves.

  • Too bad that China is very likely going to destroy itself! The work ideal of "as cheap as possible, screw the consequences," will continue to over pollute all their rivers, and eventually Chinese grown food will become so toxic that China will have to import food to feed a billion people

Working with the world, China has the chance to be a great new superpower. Working alone, China will destroy itself. When China wakes up and gets rid of their evil authoritarian regime, they truly WILL be great

  • kind of like america could be, but our xenophobic stance toward world politics is tantamount to governmental suicide. Embrace the world, don't control it. nobody likes a bully.

  • As a citizen in Shanghai,I OPPOSE another maglev train in Shanghai!

  • It would be nice to have such a project here in Chicago to keep up with the rise in population and loss of jobs. A major infrastruture project such as this technology would help our state as well as our country, unfortunatly the powers that be do not want this at this time, maybe the air line companys? soon we should see the reality of what we need to stimulate the economy!

  • What are they saying - any translation.

  • "Object maglev, guard our homeland"

But I really don't know the reason.

  • Thanks for the translation. We have been having rolling blackouts for the past 12 days in Johannesburg and trains have been burnt by angry mobs because they were late.

  • vornavalley:

wow, really? Is South Africa a real crime shithole? but there is a lot of Chinese people over there,is necessary to keep a gun in pocket when you walk in the street?

  • It is a great country but there are problems which need sorting out. Crime is a huge problem especially violent crime. The problem is the clueless leadership. Chinese business we targeted by criminals but they have taken precautions now so the attaks have diminished. Myself when I drive at night I keep a pistol against my thigh. New goverment will come in next year and maybe things will improve. Regards

  • Mr. vornavalley:thanx for ur info,I think Saudi or Dubai are better places for small business.thanx again!!!

  • Cheer up! Down with the Maglev train! It is again another wound the German capitalists sucking the peoples blood from, every year!

  • of course we germans are always bad man ^^, look at the US and A.

  • Hey . . . we both suck

  • Beginning of democratic reactions in China? Good :)

I agree they dont have to be the test-rats of the effects of maglev (and its magnetic field) on humans !

Even if we ourselves are the same lab-rats for the GSM technology, the wifi technology, the gmo technology....

  • Protest by just a few hundred people, NO BIG DEAL. That just makes Shanghai a normal city in the eyes of the world.

  • I don't fully understand, why exactly they are protesting it, does anyone know for sure? Does it cut through there neighborhoods or something?

If anyone knows the facts and could explain that would be great.

  • because the safe gap between the residents building and the maglev train should be around 150-200m, but the government just designed 22.5m for the safety gap.

  • Thanks for explanation, dude.

  • These protesters are probably the people who live in Pudong that have to deal with the maglev. I rode it to the airport two days after this protest. It's really quite impractical. The total train riding time was about 7 minutes, instead of 30 minutes by car, but the station to get on was already pretty far from the city center. The route covers some pretty rural areas. I guess the planners made some attempt at trying to disturb the least amount of people.

  • It seems that protections without getting permissions from government in advance are now legal in China?

  • It must be still illegal. For cases like this, it's quite peaceful. Maybe this is the reason why at first the police didn't come to ban the demanstration. But after that, policemen could be found around those major scenary spots.

  • Too bad people can not decide whether they need the maglev train or not in shanghai.

What a city? Expo 2010? Forget it!

  • I'm sorry to say I don't think so, it's a game among effected residents, developer and the government. Every project in China, and worldwide, has the same problem. The difference is, it is a new technology might cause more uncertainties.

  • The maglev is too expensive. More metro lines is a very good substitution.

  • Without considering the Maglev, if it's going to build at least 500 meters away from residential area, the plan is still working, now it's a totally different story mixed with the violence from Shanghai police, sneaky behavior from government, internet block to avoid news spread..., why Shanghai government present such a stupid behavior in front of the world?

  • i will love Maglev if it's not going to build in front of my house, nobody would like to enjoy the garden view going to be destroyed due to new Mag-Lev route. Shanghai government is doing so just for budget control and sacrifice thousands of people's interest. I'd like to post the current peaceful river side for your audience's understanding.

  • stupid!

  • hehe, if everyone has acted like this, China wouldn't have its economic miracle...In current financial and political situation, protests will only hurt everyone in the end. We need a strong central government at this stage. Protesting is good, but it is just a wrong time.

  • 额 为了某一些人的利益建造磁浮的确有失考虑 唉。。。

  • This a crash for EXPO 2010!!!

    Worse city, worse life!!

  • 整天打手机都不怕,还怕这个辐射?

    5米之外就没有辐射的影响了

    愚昧的跟风起哄是最大的悲哀

    噪声倒是一个问题,需要好好考虑

  • Where do you live?

Are you kidding with your people.

  • if you're living in the house 22.5meters away from the Mag-Lev, you won't be so easy to comment others. Only when you weare in the other's shoes, you have the right to comment fairly.

  • 虽然不知道是什么事情,但是支持你们,因为我也反对磁悬浮,

  • I joined in the protest in my neighbourhood yesterday. No idea why the government wants to build that trash, expensive and radiative. If that's for the World Exop 2010, a worse, almost fatal actually, life is the scenario of the so-called better city.

  • maglev is a disaster to be build in urban area.

  • stupid

  • stupid comments only made without the comprehensive understanding on the whole situation.

  • maglev is a disaster to be build in urban area.
