@superdbzfan8311 no you do not need another amp. it plugs in and sets up like a regular pedal. and the mic plugs right into it.
although i stress, that its near impossible to use live. i had to do some mods. run a mixer and a feedback elimantor into it, just to get it to a good level for playing. i plan on putting up a video soon of the talkbox setup and all the mods i had too do.
I just ordered mine from guitar center, i was going to save more money and get the nicer one... but i have a whole PA system so i can use a "nice microphone" and hopefully it will sound like yours
I want to buy a talk box but it's too expansive, I wanted to know how you use this one with another microphone. Do you put the pedal between the head and the cab of your amp ? (as the dunlop ). My problem is that the litlle microphones aren't with XLR (sorry for my english). Can you help me ??
just take the little microphones off, and get an adaptor for your xlr mic so it plugs into your amp - this one is meant to have a little amplifier inside it so if you put it between the head and cab you will blow it up. You don'shouldn't really plug an mic into a guitar amp anyway, it's only really for recording.
@FlorianDhoudain no you do not need another amp. it plugs in and sets up like a regular pedal. and the mic plugs right into it.

@allamericandude15 you do, because your guitar runs to an amp and then the output goes to the talkbox (or if you use pedals you can just plug the guitar straight into the talkbox, and then the only noise you get is out of the tube going into your mouth. so if you are at a show, no one will hear it, so the mic picks up the sound and amplifies it through a PA system or another amp.
yeah talkboxes are hard to use, i just built one. i knew it wasn't just opening and closing your mouth, but i didn't think it would be as hard to use as it was, every little thing you do makes a difference
watch mootbooxle's video, that was how i did it except i figured out don't use a powered speaker, instead put a headphone plug on the speaker wires and plug it into the external speaker jack on the guitar amp, it works way better. then turn down the low on your amp all the way, the mid halfway, and the high should be all the way up. the talkbox works better like that
umm i need help this has a lil to do with this vid cause its about the talkbox where do u plug in the built in mics anyways cause i cant figure it out
umm no because this was ment to plug into an amp its not a heil or a watever those 1s have 1 so u can plug ur guitar into ur amp and so u can plg it into a pa system but this 1 is unique because u can only plug it into an amp so im guessing it sounds good
Don't, they can be kinda difficult if you aren't experienced, and even if you manage to succeed it sounds like crap. It'll be good for maybe an afternoon's practice. My advice is to just be willing to shell out the 12o bucks for a Freespeech. I've got one, it doesn't sound terrible, and if you're young and don't play really professional gigs it'll do. It sounds good enough (just don't use the mics it comes with, use your own!)
You don't "add" it. You just plug the guitar into the freespeech and stick the tube in your mouth. But the sound coming out of your mouth will be quiet, so you just "speak" (ie. bend the sound with your mouth) into a mic, like you would normally without the talkbox.
Look at what the guy in this vid is doing.
Guitar-->freespeech---->mouth
If you want people to hear you, you put your mouth up to a mic.
The talkbox setup is an isolated unit. It ends at your mouth. But it will be quiet, so you have a mic set up in a regular manner, that you put your mouth up to. It's like singing, your voice can be hard to hear in big places, so you magnify it with a mic. Do the same thing with the talkbox.
I would try to learn about how an amp speaker system works before I try for a ghetto talkbox though. Homebrew AV can be hard if you don't know what you're doing.
ok but where do u plug the microphone in when u wanna make it louder cause wit my ghetto i lug the gutiar into the input is there andy speaker that has a line in cable??
Dude, learn AV tech now. If you want to do this kind of stuff, then you need to know what you're doing, because not everyone is going to want to baby your through all this.
To create the setup that you want you need an amp for the mic alone. You probably have used one to make your ghetto, but you can't use that one for the mic now. You need to plug the mic into its own separate amp.
Plug it in to something! Anything! A guitar amp, a mic amp, whatever the hell you have that works. It doesn't connect to the talkbox. That's it. It goes to it's own separate amp. Plug the mic into a wire, and the other end into an amp's input. How complicated is it?
ok thank you but 1 thing umm i only have 1 amp and i want to make my talkbox louder but its a ghetto so tis rely quiet how do i do that and also thers both guitar sound and talkbox sound
My advice to you is just to scrap the ghetto. They are difficult to make effectively and rarely work like you see on the DIY youtube vids. If you really want good sound just buy one, and there's some pretty cheap ones out there that work pretty well. The freespeech for example, I got it for, like, $120? That's no too bad and it's pretty sturdy, so it'll last me awhile.
what im asking is how do u use the ghetto talkbox so itll be loud where do u plug the microphone in do u plug it into the amp??? cause i plugged my mic in my amp and it didnt work well so plz help
Yes, you plug the mic into the amp and the guitar into the talkbox. Then you just do what this guy is doing, and "speak" into the talkbox. What went wrong with your mic and amp?
i plugged my mic in and it made a staticy nosie and it had 3 different voices at once and i turned up to 10 and i can stll barely heare anything so help
the problem is its a 1 dolalr mic and also just to tell u i made teh ghetto talkbox where u plug the speaker into the output nd this might be a good thing to say... i only have 1 guitar input
Dude....I'm not tech support. If you really want it to work, just buy one. It'll save you a lot of headaches, and I can guarantee that you'll like the stuff you can do with it.
ur the only 1 who actually responded but dont reply to this 1 if u dont wanna im making this 1 cause for other peeps to reply to
help please i only have 1 input in my amp and i amde the takbox where i plug my guitar into the amp and and the speaker/talkbox into the output/heaphones and even if i plug in a mic it makes liek 3 different soudns at once and even if i put my amp up to 10 its rely quiet((no its not broken its just a stupid cheap ass 1) please help
ok me agn im planning on getting the freespeech and i need help. the little ball mics on it where do those plug into cause i need it to go somewhere to amplify my talkbox so help and also i dont have a pa and i only got 1 amp
actually, with talkboxes you want to use just in your room or practice with, you're fine and don't need a mic but, if you are at a show or in a room with lots of people, you might want a microphone
Well, the Freespeech comes with mics. But yes, they all do. This is because the talkbox is basically a speaker with a tube that funnels the sounds into your mouth, which you then shape with your lips, throat, etc. But, because the speaker is kinda small, and your mouth dampens the noise. So what the mic does is pick up the sound as it comes out of your mouth., like when you sing.
The Freespeech just has a pair of cheap mics right next to your mouth that it routes into your amp for you.
You just speak into it. Here's the (general) setup:
Guitar plugs into talkbox if the talkbox has it's own amplification system (like the Danelectro Freespeech), if it doesn't then you need to route it through an amp to boost your signal, then route the amp's feed into your talkbox.
All a talkbox is is a small speaker surrounded by a funnel, which then works kind of like a sound bong, and feeds the sound into your mouth. But that isn't going to be loud, so then you just "speak" into the mic
what amp and mic are you using? ive got a panasonic 100w PA system but the mic that came with it is shit, i want a really thin mic like slash used in the guns days, can you recomend any???
how do you run the external mic into your amp? Do you have to have a second amp for that? I think the talk box sounds good but its impossible to use it with the little mics they give you. If i buy a regular mic how would i run it into my amp?
are they all that bad? i say that cuz you say its a bad talk box in the description and im looking into buying one so im not good enough to make sound a good as you
i just got mine, and my tounge keeps covering the pipe and cuting the sound out, do you advise anything to stop this? i thought about piercing 3mm diametre holes in the side, good idea?
yeah that would ruin it, the way a talkbox works is by allowing the sounds to come out of the tube's main entrance ONLY, that way you can alter the sound with your mouth. if you let the sound escape elseware, the shape of your mouth will no longer alter the sound - rendering your talkbox useless.
dude, i bought the danelectro talk box free speech pedal, but it doesn't seem to work, can you explain me how you conect you mic to the pedal and to the amp, it sound to d amn cool!!!! Thanx
the mic comnnects to the pedal, it should of came with a mic with a small plug. and then the guitar in to the imput of the back of the pedal and the out put goes to the amp
very nice! how deep you have to put the tube into your mouth to have this talking effect ? my friend just got one free speech, but it´s very low, we just can´t hear it when the other instruments are all together. thank you!
To use this talk box live you need a nice microphone, instead of the crappy one that comes with the box, and that mic needs to be hooked up to a PA system or another amp that will be loud enough to put the sound out there. You could probably keep the talk box on the cleanest setting and run the good mic through an overdrive pedal to influence what the growl sounds like (because the growl on the talk box sucks, IMO), but I haven't tried it with mine, and it may cause some bad feedback. Good luck.
nah u cant, unless you plug into a 100 watt head and have it all coming out of the tube then someone might hear you :) its not like a normal effect where you just stick in into the guitar line.
Heil sound (which is the original one that everybody used to use) and the fraptone one (which is the one frampton uses and alot of peopel use who used to use the heil sound one), these are both quite expensive, i have the heil sound one its great
do you connect your mic (sm58?) into the talkbox? i have one of these danelectro free speeches and have never managed to make it work (i think the mics it comes with are useless!)

do all talk boxes use microphones, im new to all the talk box stuff thinking of buying one ...
BMXBOBO 3 years ago
the free speech doesn't. you just plug it straight to your amp
Tanikaze2 3 years ago
actually, with talkboxes you want to use just in your room or practice with, you're fine and don't need a mic but, if you are at a show or in a room with lots of people, you might want a microphone
weissgyz 3 years ago
Well, the Freespeech comes with mics. But yes, they all do. This is because the talkbox is basically a speaker with a tube that funnels the sounds into your mouth, which you then shape with your lips, throat, etc. But, because the speaker is kinda small, and your mouth dampens the noise. So what the mic does is pick up the sound as it comes out of your mouth., like when you sing.
The Freespeech just has a pair of cheap mics right next to your mouth that it routes into your amp for you.
Postscript624 3 years ago
how do u add a second microphone???
facebook123123 3 years ago
You just speak into it. Here's the (general) setup:
Guitar plugs into talkbox if the talkbox has it's own amplification system (like the Danelectro Freespeech), if it doesn't then you need to route it through an amp to boost your signal, then route the amp's feed into your talkbox.
All a talkbox is is a small speaker surrounded by a funnel, which then works kind of like a sound bong, and feeds the sound into your mouth. But that isn't going to be loud, so then you just "speak" into the mic
Postscript624 3 years ago
man, your a mother fucking badass on that talkbox
mrguitarguy01 3 years ago
what amp and mic are you using? ive got a panasonic 100w PA system but the mic that came with it is shit, i want a really thin mic like slash used in the guns days, can you recomend any???
FreshMintTicTac 3 years ago
how do you run the external mic into your amp? Do you have to have a second amp for that? I think the talk box sounds good but its impossible to use it with the little mics they give you. If i buy a regular mic how would i run it into my amp?

i just got mine, and my tounge keeps covering the pipe and cuting the sound out, do you advise anything to stop this? i thought about piercing 3mm diametre holes in the side, good idea?
FreshMintTicTac 3 years ago
would ruin it
LRMMcDonnell 3 years ago
yeah that would ruin it, the way a talkbox works is by allowing the sounds to come out of the tube's main entrance ONLY, that way you can alter the sound with your mouth. if you let the sound escape elseware, the shape of your mouth will no longer alter the sound - rendering your talkbox useless.
dont do it.

dungahd 3 years ago
very nice! how deep you have to put the tube into your mouth to have this talking effect ? my friend just got one free speech, but it´s very low, we just can´t hear it when the other instruments are all together. thank you!
vitorcomparini 3 years ago
To use this talk box live you need a nice microphone, instead of the crappy one that comes with the box, and that mic needs to be hooked up to a PA system or another amp that will be loud enough to put the sound out there. You could probably keep the talk box on the cleanest setting and run the good mic through an overdrive pedal to influence what the growl sounds like (because the growl on the talk box sucks, IMO), but I haven't tried it with mine, and it may cause some bad feedback. Good luck.

hey guys,
An enquiry to do with the talk box.
I love the talk box with the tube but can you buy one which is just built into the microphone?
Because it seems easier and not as bad on your mouth.
I would appreciate your help because I would love to buy one.
Thanks
bishop182 3 years ago
nah u cant, unless you plug into a 100 watt head and have it all coming out of the tube then someone might hear you :) its not like a normal effect where you just stick in into the guitar line.

If the Danelectro Freespeech DTB isn't a good one to buy, then what's the best one to get?
wahinesurfergirl 3 years ago
Heil sound (which is the original one that everybody used to use) and the fraptone one (which is the one frampton uses and alot of peopel use who used to use the heil sound one), these are both quite expensive, i have the heil sound one its great
gonzo44 3 years ago
Compare that to a Rocktron Banshee. then, let me know w/c one's the best of the two. Oh...and also for a reasonable price too.
wahinesurfergirl 3 years ago
do you connect your mic (sm58?) into the talkbox? i have one of these danelectro free speeches and have never managed to make it work (i think the mics it comes with are useless!)
freeformreform 3 years ago
dude no you just need to play into the mic, if that makes sence, like singing
