  • The tech back in the original silent days was a lot different. I read somewhere that this was filmed with the latest equipment, done in the proper scale(aspect), comparable to the scale they used in silents. You are so right about the faces of the stars. Beautiful. I just cannot see many A list American actors willing to not speak in a feature film, or able to do that dancing! Jean Dujardin was head and shoulders above all the other nominees--glad so many recognized that.

  • love this scene, and The Artist I can't get enough of!!!!

  • @TheJazjune If you love this scene then dont miss the movie City Lights by Charlie Chaplin. Watch it and if it is only for the last scene...

  • These 86 seconds show a better love story, than all the Twilight movies put together!

  • @Pilapp You can feel his heart beating faster, can't you? That's the beauty of silents.

  • @VtRD I sure could. To be honest, I didn't compare "The Artist" to actual silent films. I felt if I did, then I would compare too much and just critique this new piece. Instead, I watched this film as just a modern film set in a different era and the color switch was off. Because in this one, it had music that made you FEEL, and George's face is just beautiful and so is Peppy's! Because I noticed since the 20s had a reel, the movements were not so smooth and this one of course was haha.

  • @VtRD And oh yeah, I did feel his heart beat as well as hers!! My heart ended up beating when I watched the movie. I did not like ship/root for them to be all romantic and end up together like other romance films. And there is no "I love you" in it at all. It's just looking at each other's faces and putting on a smile. If that smile is with you when you look at them after years, then that person is special. That's what I learned. mutual love of films

  • @Pilapp I didn't see so much of a love story through the movie. But at the same time I did. This scene and every scene of them alone is beautiful and you see it in their faces. Love and romance look best when that's not the intention of the film and this is exactly what The Artist has done!

    It is beautiful

  • @unlikelyhoosier I totally agree. It's the anti-kliché romantic story, that makes it even more beautiful. They don't need to stand and scream: I LOVE YOU on a train station. That's pure love.

  • @Pilapp I find it enjoyable because okay this scene is great and you see that George and Peppy care for each other for the rest of the film. I like how there is no "they lived happily ever after". It wasn't even a love story. It was a story of one rising and one falling in cinema but yes there are twists. Near the end, you see that Peppy did kinda watch over George and he watched over her. It wasn't directly said. It was in their eyes when they looked at each other. It was quick :)
