His 139 point season in 1971 would equate to 200 points in the crazy 1980s Gretzky era. Basically he'd be putting up Gretzky type numbers as a defenseman.
Wow bobby orr was simply the best he could rush the puck as well as he played defence good video wait to go bobby you changed the bruins franchise forever
I never saw Babe Ruth play baseball but I saw Bobby Orr when he was at his best. More than 40 years later, it still takes my breath away. The greatest player ever.
Orr was so classy too. Did you ever see him raise his arms and stick in celebration after a goal?? No! He just skated off with his head down. Not like the goal celebrations these days. Except of course "the goal" which is understandable. A great player and never a show off. Class all the way!
If bobby didnt mess up his knees and if he was a forward he would b known as the great one instead of gretzky no doubt. Orr was amazing. Nobody will ever play like him. Not wayne. Nobody haha i love bobby
The most goals Bobby Orr ever scored in a season was 46. This video is a TRIBUTE to Bobby Orr! Why are people talking about Gretzky and his 92 goal season? He has plenty of videos you can leave your comments on. Bobby Orr was a defensemen and simply the best, even with bad knees. Most of you never saw Orr play. Think watching youtube videos makes you experts on how great a player was?
...and remember folks, you're watching a defenseman...A DEFENSMAN! Let's see Gretzky hit, or fight, or play on both ends of the ice... Oh...wait...Gretzky COULDN'T do that... Gee, and if I had my whole team protecting me, and helping me pad my stats like Gretzky did, then I'd have those stats too! What Orr did, he earned every bit of it. If he had been a forward, would we ahve called Orr the Great One?
can't under stand how everyone has an opinion of the best ever, has never made sense to me ? will a player ever have better playmaking sense than gretzky, someone more durable than howe ? better shutdown technician than harvey ? deke like mario ? have the tenacity of richard ? and of course carry the puck like bobby ?
A further statistic I never knew of until today that shows just how dominant Orr was compared to everyone else who ever played hockey: his career +/- per game average is +0.98, 2nd all time in this category is Larry Robinson with +0.53, this is one rare statistic in which his early retirement actually went in his favor but still, I'm sure if you take the first 9 years of any other player, it would be far from being an AVERAGE of +1 each and every game he played.
I grew up watching the greatest nhl team of all time....live. larry robinson, serge savard, henri richard, yvan cournoyer, guy lafleur, steve shutt, bob gainey, ken dryden, pete and frank mahovilich........I've watched gretzky live, watched gordie howe pocket a breakaway goal - watched the golden jet score, - sat in the forum at the red line and watched the 1975 new year's eve game.
at the end of it all I will say - orr was by far the greatest.
I'm gonna say this once. You had to see Bobby in his prime. And he did this on ONE KNEE! And his good knee wasnt that good at all. I was born in '55...I know Gretzky was great, so was Guy Lafleur, and Mario Lemieux...but please...if you didnt see Orr, you missed out. So help me God, you missed out. He was the greatest.
@CDO......Gretzky did score 92. Look it up. I'm not a Gretzky fan, or an Oiler fan, but truth is truth. Where did you get the 46 is the best? That number has been destroyed for years.
I was a huge Bobby Orr fan met him in perry sound after the 1st cup win. And he was great, As was i a Gretzky and Oiler Fan, But they were both great and both changed the look and pace of the game.
Bobby Orr changed defence for ever and won Norris thophy 8 years in a row, And Gretzky and the Oilers opened up the ice and made it the fast game it is today.
look at the +/- stats. Grezkys best was +100 but he had to put up over 200 points to do it, meaning if he scorred 115 points he wouldve been useless. Bobby orr posted a +128 on 136 points, so yea gretzky the greatest scorer, but please the greatest player? i dont think so. 5 bobby orrs would smoke 5 gretzky all day
@CDOJr1961 , just saw your post. Do a little research. Bobby Hull held that record during the '60s with 58. Phil Esposito broke it with 76 in ( I think) 1971. Then Gretzky broke Esposito's record.
Now, If you are referring to goals by defensemen, you may be right. If not, What are YOU smoking?
Bobby orr was the Greatest scorer of all time,, 92 goals in a season is absoloutely Crazy, but thats what he was,, Offense.. Bobby orr could Dominate Every inch of that ice, when he was on the ice, you had 1) G, 2) F, 1)C, and 1) A.. The "A" stood for all around maniac that could Score, Defend, and throw the Occasional Punch or two.. Gretzkys Gloves were Glued to his hands for his entire Career
@bruinsfan1234 actually wayne did change the game. he proved that controlling the puck behind a teams goal was very effective - he had to hide behind the net otherwise he was a victim of cheap shots.
I grew up in Boston and as a kid was huge bruins fan during the bobby orr era. Despite my obvious bias, orr was and is the greatest hockey player of all time who revolutionized the position of defenseman and the game itself and on top of it all he could fight his own fights. It's a shame he played in an era when the procedure for treating knee injuries was to remove soft tissue. By the age of 30, his knee was decimated.
Save them in 10 minute or under chunks to your hard drive...create an account and upload away. There are some cool tutorials on how..where you ask...why on Youtube. We can't wait to see more of the magnificent Orr. Thanks for the info on what year his Buffalo move was, I wasn't sure of the uniform change year..so your info is more accurate than mine..Orr still made Rene look like a parked car, didn't he!!
the only bad thing about orr was we only got to see 10 years worth. think about it condisered to be the second best player of all time and he only played 10 seasons image if he got to play 20 like most of the greats. wayne mario, goride would only be after thoughs
440x, I agree with you about the 10 years....what would Bobby have done had he been healthy? But as far as the "second best" goes......not close......there was Bobby Orr....then there was the NHL and the rest of the players.......
they say gretzky is the best,i would have loved to see wayne play defence and use a straight sticknot those easton or curved sher woods just a straight wooden stick like orr used
Hey bostonpaul212....who is 'they" anyway....don't listen to 'them"...Bobby Orr was and is the single greatest hockey player there ever was and ever WILL be.....
The play against the Sabres at 0:50 is incredible4. When it is replayed in slo-mo, watch how quick he accelerates to full speed. Talk about a transition game. That's how he had a +/- of +124.
Great point Bleeney..the funny thing is, that was Rene Robert he just made look like a total pylon. Robert is described as lightning fast, blindingly fast, one of the fastest wings of his era on different sites and on his trading cards. This was probably Orr's 74/75 season (by the look of his hair) Rene got 100 pts that year. Orr won the scoring title with 135 from defense..unreal!!
It had to be before 74-75 cause the B's went to the new jersey in 74-75. I'm thinking this was 73-74 cause Hank Nowak #18 was playing. The Flyers were the only team that could slow Orr down and they did to win the cup. I got all those games from 74 finals except game 3 and the Flyers slowed down a tired Orr who was playing 35 minutes plus a night. Plus Espo did squat that finals.
I was thinking the same thing about that bank shot off the stick. I mean he had to see it so I would assume that was intentional which is rediculous. People always refer to Gretzky as the greatest ever but I say it's Orr it's plain and simple: Gretzky played the game as good if not better then anyone. But Orr changed the game and the defenseman position by himself.
What a joy..nice to see some new clips up..some of this is laughable..how do you stop this guy. Do you think the shot that hit the stick was on purpose..I think it was, who thinks that fast..ya, ya I'll let a medium hard shot go at a stick laying on the ice..the goalie has to think..why that lucky sob hit the stick..ha. Simply the best..in all areas of the game. Thank you Mr Orr!!

Bruins become the 4th team to win the cup in game 7 on the road. The score 4-0. Bruins win 4-0 game 4 on the night Bobby waved the flag.
You can never get enough of 4 Bobby Orr. The greatest player ever. Pure magic!

Orr was the greatest all-around player of all time. He could out-skate, out-stick handle, out-shoot and out-fight anyone on the ice.
If he had been a center like Gretzky, or even a winger, he would own most of the offensive records too.
