Classic old skool joints like this make a brother smile real big. If you didn't grow up on this stuff...you can listen, you can like it, but you can never know the feeling songs like this gave us back then. MC's going for broke, DJ cutting wax like ax murderers, bboys breaking like their lives depended on it and graf artists showcasing that gritty grimy Wild Style that completes the scene. You had to be there.
My dad bought me a cassette tape with this song and Salt N Pepa's "I'll Take Your Man" back in the 80's. I don't remember the other songs on the tape but it was a rap compilation.
@scatman44 That's Darryl "Chill" Mitchell. He was in the early 90's rap group Groove B. Chill and also was in the first "House Party" movie. He went on to have a successful acting and comedic career. He was in a motorcycle accident that left him paralyzed from the waist down.
im 37 now, i remember listening to this when i was 12, i no this whole song of my head to this day, my favorite song of all time. Love Heavy D, miss them good ole days, when rap was just starting out and making a name for itself.
@sniop33 Give it time. You know people don't appreciate good music until the artist dies, unfortunately. Then again, some of his other vids are in the millions. So I guess we can take solace in THAT at least. Although I bet a lot of THOSE didn't get hits until he died either. That's why I put the "Heavy D Tribute" show we did as a response to this. Let people know what they were missin, even if they DON'T like this song.

RIP HEAVY D! Your fans "GOT NUTTIN' BUT LOVE FOR YA BABY!" You will always be our "BIG DADDY!" You have been our "OVER WEIGHT LOVER" and made sure you were ultimately "MR. Thank you for sharing all of your "SWEET CANDY RAIN" of hiphop hits! Now that you are rapping for the ONE that made ya IT'S ALRIGHT!
this is the first heavy.d joint i ever heard in 86, and at that time it smashed everything that was about at that time, and still does. a lot of people get rosey specs when they recall the sadly departed, and exagerate their contribution to hip hop, but Heavy D is definately the exception to the rule because he really is that good and his material is as punchy and fresh as if it just rolled off the press today. new school idiots take note, THIS is how you become a legend. RIP King Heavy.D peace.
@mrisor892 1986 is rite i was in 8th grade when i heard this and my first concert that i went to was a heavy d concert he iz a legend for sure i remember him dancing his ass off on stage its funny because i was in the third row and you could see him very good it was moving to see him get down like that big lez was one the dancers on stage with him and wow she iz thick azz hell but anyway RIP HEAVY one luv

RIP big homie. Still dig the Coca Cola gear from this vid. Had plenty of my own back when I was in high school. Good times those were.
I remember when this was brand spankin new. I will always love this video because, it showed the world that us chunky boys can move on the dancefloor. This is from an era of when hiphop was fun, nobody got hurt from doing stupid stuff and the women didn't dress and shake their asses like they worked in a stripclub. R.I.P. Heavy D & thanx for showing this chunky boy a few dance moves back in the day.

If you were to die today, DO YOU KNOW WHERE YOU WILL SPEND ETERNITY?
I know someone will say, "but I am a good person..."
Good people don't make it into heaven, ONLY SAVED PEOPLE DO.
Is it just me or is it easier to respect rappers from the earlier days? Before everyone needed to be "hard" 24/7. Case in point, when was the last time you saw girls in a rap video that were shown in a respectful and realistic manner. RIP heavy D
R.i.p heavy d you will always be missed, this is my most favorite jam from back in the day when i was little, hip hop will never be the same again without all of the great hip hop legends
You will always be one of my favorite rappers also, You are gonna be missed and our prayers goes out to your family, you are in a bertter place now with the Lord, RIP brother Heavy, we love you.
dwayne, you were just as much a part of my rap education as public enemy and eric b and rakim were back in my college days ...now my nephew listens to old school rap and r and b...i'm glad to know it has survived and stayed strong...enjoy yourself in heaven, heaven, heavy d !!
I had that sweatshirt the back up dancer guys are wearing. Anyone else ever have Coca Cola clothes?? Or Guess, Generra, International news, and Bugle Boy?? AHHH the 80's and early 90's...... what a great time to be a teenager. And don't forget your swatch watch!!!!
@danielkimble1972 I had the Coca Cola long sleeve shirt. Not sure if you're from the NYC or not but back in the 80's we used to rock the Bennaton Shirts, polo sneakers, Kswiss, and the Nike Uptown. Kids from Harlem and the Bronx used to rock the Nike Uptowns.. Missing those days..
@ladydee20784 AHHH up me too. we was rockin them in SAN FRAN!! had the whole set, the routine, and the haircut!! ahhh Class of 85!RIP HEAVY and thank you for the memeories!!
Hip Hop Bridged the Generation Gap! My sons would ask me the name of the songs that the rappers would sample. Me and my sons be dancin in the living room. I love Hip Hop!!!
The BEST part of the video is at 4:14, when Hev is gettin' down, the ladies are just chillin', and he's like "aight, I'm chillin'. R.I.P. Big Stuff!!!!
Man I can't stop laughing at this video....Looks like the church done went to the club.....R.I.P. Heavy '' D''....I GOT NOTHIN BUT LOVE FOR YA HOMIE....
RIP ..This is the music I think of when I think abt Heavy D...this along with We Got Our Own Thang and his verse on Self Destruction...u will b missed !!!
This was the song that was playing when I first made out with a girl at 16. I will always remember it. She was hot too! I would later deliver pizza to him while in college. RIP!
Man this was the bomb back in the day. Heavy knew how to throw down. He was a part of my high school life. Today's stuff can't even match what we had. Rest in Peace, Heavy D.
Yep my 1st Heavy D and the Boyz tune i bought way back in the late 80's. I opened my MSN homepage and saw the headline and it was only the other night i saw his performance on BET hip hop awards and thought wow good to see him on the box again. Shocked and really saddened by his passing, true what they say about living for today..Big tune though respect to the Hackney massive who raved to this one RIP brother Heavy D condolences to his family..
Wow...I loved this one....my ex was a "Heavy"....and this song makes me think of how yummy he was back in the day....wow, but those days are gone.....Love you Heavy D...rest in peace...thanks for the memories.

Good people don't make it into heaven, ONLY SAVED PEOPLE DO.
Hard ???, but a relevent one. Do You know?

Is it just me or is it easier to respect rappers from the earlier days? Before everyone needed to be "hard" 24/7. Case in point, when was the last time you saw girls in a rap video that were shown in a respectful and realistic manner. RIP heavy D

I had that sweatshirt the back up dancer guys are wearing. Anyone else ever have Coca Cola clothes?? Or Guess, Generra, International news, and Bugle Boy?? AHHH the 80's and early 90's...... what a great time to be a teenager. And don't forget your swatch watch!!!!
danielkimble1972 3 months ago
@danielkimble1972 I had the Coca Cola long sleeve shirt. Not sure if you're from the NYC or not but back in the 80's we used to rock the Bennaton Shirts, polo sneakers, Kswiss, and the Nike Uptown. Kids from Harlem and the Bronx used to rock the Nike Uptowns.. Missing those days..
