  • i think i like busch light better than miller lite..

  • hello retrod1, so you're using 160v for the b+? are you using a 6.3v supply for heaters? Can you post simple schematic for this? Thanks and best regards - Luther

Hello. I didn't write down the circuit when I created it. It's basically the same as the Jonny Davro transistor circuit that has been published elsewhere. I had to fiddle a bit with values to bias the triode tube properly. I recommend building the solid state version, I didn't see any advantage to using the vacuum tube/valve other then the novelty of being the first person to do so.

  • @retrod1 I think the advantage would come in when you have a large bank of batteries to charge. Then you can "stack" them in series. In my case, I have 2 banks of 12 and 11 batteries respectively at 135Ah each battery. So my thinking is that if I could charge them in series, i could get them to charge quicker. I sent you an email - maybe we could get into some details offline.... regards and thanks for the fast response! Luther

Oh, I see you want to use the circuit for it's intended purpose and not a toy, that's different. Yes, the 6080 would be a good tube to try. You will find tubes very robust for this application. You can use both triode sections of the 6080 in parallel. You will have to experiment with resistor values to 'dial in' optimum operation. Best of luck with this.

  • An' hees got,

    High Volts... Yes hes got

    High Volts, Yes youve got

High, High in the Sky, Volts...

  • Man does that take me back aways. The only real electronics training I ever had was in Jr. highschool a hundred million years ago and ----we used vacume tubes. You might be the only person on earth to make a Bedini SSG run that way. Good job.

  • lid, you had electronics training???? I havn't...

Retrod1, I love the use of old tech... in a couple of weeks i will be using very modern tech to drive mine...

  • Looking forward to seeing your results.

  • Most of my lab equipment and even some of the tubes came from a school that was discontinuing a formal electronics course, 20+ years ago! They opened a computer lab in it's place. I often wonder how much of the equipment would have wound up in a landfill if I hadn't stopped in to buy the stuff that day.
