  • Two of my great uncles died in this war. Irish have always been sent to the frontlines to do the bloodiest of battles, the letters they wrote to our family members told us so, and the fact that they died first confirms it.

  • wat is this? its an insult to the heroes of ww1

  • what is this gay music??

  • @madhammudeux gay ? it's pink floyd......

  • Uniforms, where you get em

  • I LOVE MORE WW1 then WW2..But the bouth of the wars we tragic...

  • Hmmm, Enfield MK4's, Steyr Mausers and Mosin Nagants, I question this.

  • @volcolartist Steyr Mauser?? WTF? Its Mauser 98(german), or Steyr 95(austrian).

  • @BigMek456 I meant " steyrs, mausers " and I'm fully aware of the weapons production dates. Arse

  • @volcolartist doesnt sound so tommy, why the offending? are you a kid?

  • @BigMek456 lol @ your profile "Occupation:Troll" - conversation over

  • Joyux Noel...

  • Should make a parody of 'Summer of 69' for this film.

  • Six of my family fought in WW1 Billy died at Aubers Ridge, George at Ypres both grandfathers fought on the Somme. Two were missing.

  • @clydewell i would like to pay my respects to your family and the sacrifices they have made.

  • unfortunately this can't happen in our current war cuz our enemies believes in allah and muhamad

  • We fought with Britain when she was striped bare of all allies in Europe. When she stood up high on the pedastel of defeat with the world reigning against her, with so few allies and so little hope. The sons of Canada came to the Empire's aid, the sons of Canada answered the call. In her greatest hour of need Canada stood by Britain. No matter the year be it 1914 or 1939, We will never forget where our loyalty is and where it will always be.

  • @FourDollarDoobie wow.... i didnt know Canadians were so willing to help :S i always figured most of the ex empire countries didnt like us much

  • @FourDollarDoobie sons of canada hold your heads high with pride. your amreican brother respects you

  • A No.4 Mk.1 Enfield in a ww1 movie? come on the No.4 didn't come around until the late 1930's other than the equipment confusion, it seems pretty good.

  • Hey jims3666 arnn't you being alittle naive ? They could have wet around Belgium . They asked , knowing the answer would give them an excuse to invade.

  • @az092707 where would they go around? look at a map. they could go through belgium, the ardenne forest, or the alps through switzerland. germany had long worked out the best chance of winning a war against france. the scheifflein plan identified the attack across the lowlands of belgium as the most practical route. they didnt want to invade belgium to attack and occupy, they would have preferred belgium grant passage. not my opinion, just historical facts

  • ... brilliant.

  • INDUSTRY...

  • all quiet on the western front is a good movie but you people who are looking for a good world war 1 movie try lost batalion :)

  • i think that a new version of " all quiet on the western front " would be greaT^^

  • Try watching "All Quiet on the Western Front" if youre looking for a good WWI movie.

  • @Wierdobierdo not a good but the best war movie ever. also the novel by erich maria remarque ("im westen nichts neues")

  • the american musicc ompletely ruins this video. America probaly didn't know there was a war on in 1914!

  • @xXGreyWolf this is 'wish you were here' by Pink Floyd, one of the best Rock bands to have come out of England...

  • allmost no man died in those days you were allways face to face not being attacked like the barbaric warfare of today where any animal can pick up a gun and kill a man.

  • what is this song called? plz rep if anyone knows

  • @irkingaustralia - how old are you ? Pink Floyd Wish You Were Here

  • @Weary3367 lol im 15 but iv got a good taste in music, i hate shit like usher n eninem

  • @irkingaustralia Fair enough I thought you must have been a youngster. Luckily you have The Net to check out all ranges of music.

  • ty for post I think you rock. re talking about WI-- well, i can never stop thinking about it when i read poets like owen, sassoon, omg heart breaking terrifying, the whole world changed, it always does, but this seemed liked like the beginning of 'The End'

  • this's a good one

  • German Allies WW1:Austro-Hungarian Empire, Ottoman Empire, Bulgaria.

British Allies WW1: France, US, Russia, Portugal, Belgium, Japan, Greece, Italy, Australia, New Zealand, Boers, Canada, Serbia, Assyria, Ireland, Algeria, Senegal, India, Romania, Montenegro ,Brazil, etc etc etc ie the rest of the world.

    Very fair War.

  • First: war is never fair

Second: exept for britain and france and USA (maybe portugal) all of the allies had crappy guns, like the russians who stil used horses and swords. All of your allies had huge armies and guns. And like it happenend with portugal our army was composed by country people who had never seen a gun, could understand english and had to be trained really quick to go to war,

  • @Afonsocool23

Germanys 3 Allies were all fairly poor aswell: people in Germany described their alliance with Austria as being shackled to a corpse. The Ottoman Empire was known as the sick old man of the east. Russia had a giant army which pretty much cancelled them out, albeit the Turks handled themselves reasonably well against the British. The odds were against Germany and their defeat was inevitable once US joined.

  • remember if it wasnt for the americans they would have won both world wars

  • First: if it had not been for the british who won the battle of britain in 1940 the US wouldn't have an island from which to launch the invasion.

a few numbers: D-Day was the biggest battle on the western front in WW2. 175.000 allied soldiers attacked Normandy. In all of Normandy the strenght of the Wehrmacht was about 380.000.

From 1941-1945, casualties (K.I.A. only)on the eastern front are estimated at around 4,9 million Axis soldiers and at least 9,1 million Soviet soldiers.

  • still as i said before although the Uk was a great power nd very important during the war if it wasnt for the americans the wehrmacht would easily won the war... ( wich doesnt meen uk would loss its independence)

  • I doubt wether the soviet forces woud have been defeated if the wehrmacht could have send it's full force against the Soviet-Union because the soviets alredy took on 90% of the german strenght why would they not have been able to handle the last 10% as well?

  • you have a point there as hitler should have had eliminated all enemies before marching over russia. Still i think the russians would had never reached berlim if it wasnt for D-DAY

  • D-Day was June 6th, on June 22th the soviet army launched Operation Bagration, the invasion of Belarus with over 1.2 million troops against 486.000 axis occupying the country. That assault would have succeded, with or without D-Day. Maybe the Wehrmacht would have been able to move several divisions from west to east without D-Day, but from the beginning the eastern front was so much bigger than the western. The first offensive of the german army consisted of 99 of it's total of 190 divisions.

  • probably without d-day wehyrmach would defeat russia, or5 at lest defend berlin

  • @Afonsocool23

    You're an uneducated dumb fuck

  • ???? what a noob get a life

  • the Russians wouldn't of stood a chance if it wasn't for the allies supplying them

  • its about tactic

stalingrad and kursk were the 2 operations that was the most foolish...

the generals opted to encircle moscow..

draw entire soviet army to moscow..

keep supply lines short and massacre everyone in moscow, get out and encircle again

    but hitler wouldnt listen

encircling + starving leningrad also shud be completed in 1 year but also failed

if german generals were in full control

they would have won the war

  • PORTUGAL???

    dumbfuck

  • ? wtf? Portugal what?

  • Wow. I didn't know people still talked about WW1. Maybe I should sell DVDs.

  • WW1 was important, but it sucks because half of them didnt realy know what they were fighting for. Some country who's leader was assassinated.

  • it wasn't even a country leader it was an Hungarian duke now that sucks to think that all of them lives lost for a duke but ww1 would have started another way it was all to do with who was top dog Britain or Germany in the end both country's bust each over so much non of them were. by the end the Americans came in late and as a result the Americans had more men and more money so they took the place as top dog. now that's a guta and the poor french population is still suffering

  • @ntowns20 you should

  • This looks fucking awesome. I gotta see this.

  • @ntowns20 you filmed this at SCAD?

  • @ntowns20 Yes, you should. Put me on the list for one.

  • @ntowns20 please do!

  • @ntowns20 you should also try to get this on netfilx i am sure they accept it

  • Comment removed

  • imagine not knowing the name of the song u low iq cunt

  • @clockend83 you should know this..... but its Pink Floyd - Wish you were here

  • someone needs to make a really good ww1 movie, asap. its the scariest and most interesting war ever

  • Indeed. Someone should whip Hanks and Spielberg into doing one! But they are too hung up on ww2:(

  • never happen yanks wanted us to loose it and stayed out as long as they could then only sent troops in late 1917 hard too be the HERO then.

  • You really don´t know your history. Your victory was the United States primary concern - mainly because they wanted Britan and France to be able to repay their huge debts and to maintain the power balance in Europe. The initial resentment to direct involvement had to do with the vast German portion of the population and the fact that America at this time was another society back then: an anti-militant one. They were still licking their wounds suffered during the Civil war, they were weary.

  • so the USA only came into WW1 so that we would be able to repay the inflated charges your lot placed on the shit you delivered

  • Partly. And you should be aware that that "shit" included medical support, ammo, coats, boots etc. and just plain dollars at your own free disposal. I wouldn´t call that shit - rather vital materiel for the war effort, in my opinion. And the war would probably not have ended had not the yanks intervened with troops. France was on the verge of revolution, as Germany was, and had the French pulled out the war would have been lost.

  • or maybe if as you've pointed out we could have done it alone then where would your super power have been, going back to your earlier post the USA were scared that the vast german portion within might be upset ! did'nt stop you interning all Japanes after 41 why to close too home.

  • I didn´t understand much of what you wrote, honestly. Care to rewrite a little clearer?

  • @Faxe90Swe now now cant we all agree we all kick ass

  • @whingenjock

We still coulda let you guys and Jerry sit in a stalemate for a few more years...

  • not really the worst was just about over another few months and it would have been done

  • World war 2 is more interesting.

  • not at least, for you maybe

  • @jada7770 i agree with you dude.

  • @phillovesjenna1574 There is a new Australian movie comming out called beneath hill 60 its about the australian diggers in ww1

  • @phillovesjenna1574 I agree. World war 1 is so underrated. I mean for fucks sake there's bearly any ww1 videogames, which is really stupid becouse its a really interesting war. Id love to be in a trench with the other soldiers shooting enemies. Awesome.

  • @Marercarer1 there is a reason for that. WW1 may be underrated, but there isnt very many variation between what happened on the battlefields. Shelling, more shelling, and more shelling, and an infantry charge. rinse repeat. Maybe throw in a plane or two, maybe a tank. It was a very simple war, not nearly as diverse as the combat seen in WWII.

  • @GambleDwarf100 Yea, I guess your right. But it would still be awesome to be in the trenches waiting for an attack. The front between Austro-Hungary (dunno if thats how its spelled) and Italy was a bloody one. Id love to be there. And It was fought in my country.

  • @phillovesjenna1574 watch the orignal nothing new on the western front and voila you got your very good ww1 movie :)

  • @phillovesjenna1574

they did in 1979, all quiet on the western front.

  • @phillovesjenna1574

if most pointless and cruel war carried on by stupid notions of "honor"

  • @phillovesjenna1574 Galipoli and Passhendaele

  • @phillovesjenna1574 Galipoli and Passhendaele, both great movies

  • @phillovesjenna1574 Try "The Trench", it is well directed and acted. It even has Daniel Craig.

  • Joyeux Noël rippoff

  • yep i agree and i love that film, the song dreaming of home is very moving

  • AMAZING TRAILER!!!!!

you gotta upload the whole thing!!! lol

  • Sheepish officers and unthinking generals, all who were more dangerous to their own men then to their enemies. That sums up WWI trench warfare.

  • agreed

  • Theres so many different tales of the Christmas Truce.. The one we were told about was that both sides downed weapons and had a game of football and exchanged presents with each another.

  • Ohh really?

    can you tell me more?:)

  • Wow this looks really great! nice camera angles and focus on the actors gives it a real human element which is what a film based on the war needs. i liked the contemporary music too, strangely i think it worked for the narrative.

Really, nice job! I hope you did well with this project!

  • uhhhh i'll give you 2 stars for having good music

  • Fucking lier

  • interesting choice of music....Wish You Were Here with the World War One. i see the angle you were getting at, didnt really follow through tho:/

  • stick to music

    -this is awful film

  • wow both sides had the wrong rifles, how does that happen

  • 5 stars!!

  • love wish you were here great video too!

  • music didnt realy suit but apart from that

  • Correction: The German Infantry used the Gewehr 98 in the first War, Pioneers, Cav and the Special Forces of the German Army used the K98.

The Short form, K98k, was took as rifle for the German Infantry in 1934.

The German Infantry used the K98k and the Gewehr 43

  • That is not true.. The German Soldiers in the first War used the K98. After the first World War and Hitlers Rise the Wehrmacht took the K98k as Rifle to us for the German infantry

  • yes thats obvious but i meant

the second K stands for kurz

  • the k98K was developed after the the first worldwar. the k stands for kurz (short)

during the war it was on only k98

  • k98= Karabiner 98 not kurz 98

  • The British Used the Lee Enfield The Kar98k was made after WW1

  • nice vid i would watch it

  • i've read that the germans could even agree with Britain, that Britain would join the germans cause they wanted russian and french colonies, and Britain finally joined the Antant cause they germans attacked Belgium even without the german politicians knowing it, and Belgium was a "protected nation" so Britain automatically declared war

my reference is Sebastian Haffner, a historian who published several books...

  • Sieht aus, als ob der Typ bei 0:25 nicht lange genug den Atem anhalten konnte!

Looks like that guy at 0:25 couldn't hold his breath long enough!

  • GOD SAVE THE QUEEN!!!

  • you know most of you will think im stupid for saying this but i rememebr this being the first video i watched on youtube 4 years ago and i i still enjoy it!

  • speak of the devil I was just listening to wish you were here!!! Great song

  • WWI, the big mistake !! We hat fight together not against. And the world would be another. We had colonies not we would be colonised!!!

  • What's with the nationalism? You'd think that using terms like "we" in context to history would have disintegrated by now, the 21st century.

This division, among other things, is what caused the war in the first place.

  • I'm trying to upload the whole film, but it may take a while. I also might have to split it into two parts. I will let you know when it is up.

  • That a French has a French attitude shouldn't be surprizing.

As you say, nothing in history is not as cut and dry as that. I am perfectly able to take distance from the French point of view, and consider, for example, that we would be better off if France had lost the battle of the Marne in 1914: The Schlieffen plan would have given the Germans victory in a few weeks, Europe would have been ruled by Germany (and why not?) instead of diving in two dreadful total wars.

  • We may also imagine a harsher Versailles treaty, re-dividing Germany into several states, and obliging Germany to pay for the damages it had caused: The Germans would have recognized their defeat, instead of hiding it behind the "backstabbing by politicians" legend, and it would have spared them and us the next mad adventure.

The Weimar republic was not "a vacuum of power".

  • can I ask the songs title? please....

  • pink floyd -wish you wre here-

  • anyone notice ?, nobody has a cap badge.

  • actually looks good. you should release it and give me a copy ;)

  • was this about the football truce?

  • What the Aussies did ? read about what the canadians did!

  • Look up what us Aussies did...it was just a bloody mess & waste of life. So what is this trailer for...a full length feature?

  • You know what Americans may not have had hardly any role compared to the other powers but we still played a part and lost men as well. And guess Demonlock54 there isn't a single war in history that hasn't been fought for the benefit of someone so maybe you should do some more research. And by the same token what movie is ever really historically accurate besides maybe documentaries. ntowns20 overall I think your video was interesting and I love the song you paired with it. The song totally fits.

  • America joined in ww1 to help take down a already badly wounded army.

  • we joined because of many reasons man. 1. Zimmerman Telegram, we feared that Mexico would rise against America, we just ended the Mexican-American war.

2.Lusitania sinking. Germans kept assaulting american submarines without warning, killing innocent civillians.

that is why we joined. and with russia dropping out. it would make it tougher for you guys already fighting. ;)

  • At 1:02 and 1:09 the soldier at the bottom of the screen has a mosin nagant

  • At minimum cost?? Minimum cost would be none!!! Why should America "go in" any war? Why should America "help" anyone??

  • Oh my goodness....the voice of common sense. Now, why can't more Americans understand their history like you. I am so sick and tired of this war hawk mentality in this country. What the hell ever happened to George Washington's words of advise? No entangling alliances, peace with all, trade with all. Maybe the Arabs wouldn't hate us so much if we weren't bombing the shit out of them for decades. Maybe the Twin Towers might still be standing if assholes didn't run our foreign policy!

  • omg faget, do some freaking research. America went to war at its own benefit, 5 benefit to be exact and if you want me to say them to you, then reply.

  • Thats probably because I`m not an American :) just kidding.

Boethius51250- I agree with every singel word you`ve put down. HIstory can teach as a lot.

Demonlock54-I see no benefit in aaany war what so ever. Especially non for America in WWI.

Yes, there are some "interest groups", or beter freebooter, war profiteers. But AMERICA, by that meaning Americans, had not benefited from any war, not a bit.

  • "stupid American politicians coming to help only in the end"

It was not "stupid", on the contrary: Politicians are doing their job well when they take advantage of a crisis to make their country a superpower and steal all of the glory. Sure, politics is cynical. The US had the best possible strategy, made easy by the oceans which protected them: They waited until Germany was entangled in Russia, then entered the war when they could intervene decisively at minimum cost.

  • Were there any other truces in WWI after Christmas 1914?

  • no they werent

  • They had ceasefire but anybody who appeared out of the trench would be shot by the enemy and there wasn't any Fraternization like in 1914

  • that's some powerful shit.

  • I still remember this video as being the very first video iv ever watched on YouTube, and I still enjoy it.

  • A very poor choice of music let this down from the start.

  • where can i get a hold of this film?

would probably be worth the watch

  • Also go read about a little guy named Napoleon, one of the greatest military geniuses of history. It took all of Europe together to defeat him in battle since no country could defeat him alone.

  • very poor

  • oh sweet video man, great track for it aswell whats the song?

  • Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here"

  • thanks!

  • Which weapon is that Tommy is holding at 1:04? It is not a No.1 SMLE, looks rather like a No. 4, not available at the time I guess...

  • i think its an amature film and its good so dont complain that they have used a diferent variant

  • The fact it is amateur (not amature as you say)does not mean it can't be ACCURATE!

  • true but let them off. close enough i would complaint if they used a different gun completly. and yes im not the best at spelling i forget sometimes.

  • OK Will. The critic was not bad intentioned, some accuracy would only add to the effort of the movie. I hate for instance to watch a WWII film in which vehicles from the Korean War are featured or wrong uniforms,I regard it as a bad researched work and a cheap movie because nowadays you can get whatever you want to recreate the days gone. Cheers :-)

  • I made this movie. I know it's under a different name, but It's because I'm at work. The reason the props and costumes are inaccurate is simply monetary. It is not easy making a film for ten grand that resides in a genre where most films are multi-million dollar features. Obviously we would have liked to use authentic props, but that was impossible.

  • it's not accurate, there is a british soldier with a Lee Enfield Rifle No. 4 Mk 1 which was not issued until the end of 1940, 26 years after the start of the first world war.

  • What's the song's name?

  • pink floyd - wish you were here

  • thanks

  • Palfium66, macavulan, while British soldiers in 1914-1915 were volunteers, the French had compulsory military service (since 1870), which lasted 3 years to make up for demographic stagnation.

Germans had military service too, but students could "volunteer" for 1 year. The Russians had the longer military service.

Interesting to observe how we all, still in 2008, view history through our local sources (books written by our compatriots only, family tales, national TV shows).

  • I've never heard about French compulsory service before, so thanks for information.

  • Welcome. This shows to what extent we ignore basic facts about our neighbour countries! (this certainly goes for me too). The military service was important in shaping the mentality of millions of young Frenchmen since the revolution, and even more since 1870. For example, it made them very different from young Americans or British.

  • And if any froze in action, their nerves unable to take the sight of death on both sides, and could take it no more.....and ran. They'd be executed for cowardice. No post traumatic stress, no sympathy, just cowards and shot like rats with no real defence.

A sad time in history for the common man.

  • not all nations mate

    erm australia didnt

and 3 more didnt but there names have slipped from me mind

  • Sorry, patriot, I don't know what post of mines below you were replying to. So I can't comment.

  • erm it was about shooting people for desertion/cowerdice

  • I was viewing it only from the British side, patriot. That's good news that not all countries treated their mentally scarred victims as cowards and shot them like rats.

    Well done, Australia.

  • ah right sorry mate i thought you meant as a whole

  • No, thanks for educating me, patriot. I didn't know that. I looked it up. Apparently Australia and the USA refused to execute their own soldiers. The French were the worst, executing 600 soldiers.

  • "The French were the worst, executing 600 soldiers."

Figure correct (if I may say). Most of them were executed in the 1st months of the war to "establish discipline" where needed. As for being " the worst", it's difficult to tell:

    - We don't have statistics for the Russian army (it must have been hell)

    - When I read the diaries of German officers, I discover that shooting a disobedient soldier on the battle field was an accepted method. And this leaves no traces in official reports

  • "The French were the worst, executing 600 soldiers." well......had to keep the from surrendering somehow.

  • Very funny comment, coming from a country which is not considered a model of military courage.

Most of these French soldiers had participated in bloody assaults, charging with their baionets against German trenches and machine-guns. In their place, you would have shit in your pants.

Many of the executed were good soldiers, who happened to refuse to obey a stupid order from some top-brass HG.

  • I know that actually, just couldn't resist slamming the frenchies . I know they fought hard and well in World war one and are actually generally pretty brave. Old generals were wanting to fight ww1 again in 1939 which caused them to loose not the quality of French soldiers. But The French have been pretty antagonistic towards the U.S. lately. and BTW I like to think I would have done my Duty, even if that duty was going over the top.
