I absolutely love TCM's Remembrance of all those who have passed before us. These wonderful Actors/Actresses and people of the cinema have given of themselves so that we may enjoy their craft. I salute you all.....and thank you so much for your outstanding work. The music is haunting and oh so beautiful.
Thank you TCM for honoring these artists' achievements during their lifetime.
I WISH that ABC & TCM could come up with some sort of contract that would allow TCM to completely handle THIS portion of the annual Oscar telecast. ABC always comes up short. C'mon guys......You could squeeze it in by simply eliminating even just a few of the lame banter between presenters.....or even a couple of the stupid song & dance routines...
Gary Coleman did appear in such movies appeared on the silver screen like "On The Right Track", a comedy film released in 1981. And some others after that.
Irvin Kershner directed the best science fiction film ever made. Thank you Kersh for Empire .. I've never watched a single film more times in my entire life.
We lost my buddy Richard Stapley, too. He made his film debut in the 1948 MGM movie, The Three Musketeers, opposite Elizabeth Taylor and then 1949 remake of Little Women, the love interest of Janet Leigh's character, Meg. Other movies: 1953's King of the Khyber Rifles, opposite Tyrone Power and The Iron Glove with Robert Stack in 1954. Richard Stapley (aka as Richard Wyler) died of kidney failure at Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs, California, on March 5, 2010
Oh, I see. I couldn't hear the percussion at all on my speakers and I heard the song as what I call "recollected" or thoughtful, not morbid. The one I didn't care for was the year they had it take place in a seedy hotel and played "Flesh and Blood" by Joe Henry. That was 2005. Anyway writing to TCM with suggestions for next year's song is probably the best idea. I will too.
TCM always does such a beautiful job with these tributes. Despite the other comments, I find the music to be absolutely lovely in a haunting way. Well done!
@lustre5 - I don't know what you think is wrong with it but you can write to TCM with your suggestions for better music ideas for next year's memorial.
@ksol1460tv It's too morbid and the constant percussive sounds are a huge distraction. It's hard enough to take in what's there before each shot ends. Music should enhance or support. I don't feel this music does that.
yeah Lizamay I couldn't agree more how could they forget Mr Redgrave but remember his younger sister Lynn. and I'm surprised they forgot Blake Edwards who was a favorite director of mine
Seriously...all the names mentioned below are names EVERYONE who watches TCM would recognize...TCM does this every year, arbitrarily deciding who does & doesn't "make the cut"
@pernelldh - they won't add them - they only include actors from movies, not TV. They did revise it and add Blake Edwards at the end since he died after they probably first started airing this.
We lost some giants this year - and two of my favorite actresses: Jean Simmons and Kathryn Grayson. Now they'll have to update this to add Blake Edwards :(
Muy buen video. Lloré cuando falleció Leslie Nielsen. Fue uno de mis actores de comedia favoritos. Q.E.P.D. // Perfect video. I cried when Leslie Nielsen passed away. He was one of my favourites comedians. R.I.P.
I got meet Patricia Neal at an Ayn Rand birthday celebration in NYC. She was the last the main cast of "The Fountainhead". Can't forget Tony Curtis, Kathryn Grayson, Leslie Neilsen. Directors like Claude Chabrol + Eric Rohmer. Good to remember some of the lesser known actors like Meinhart Raabe (Wizard of Oz) and Baby Jane Marie (aged late 90s).
I think this one has the most appropriate song of all the TCM Remembers tributes;
"You told your tales with pictures"
Is there any more fitting tribute for someone who dedicate their life to the cinematic arts?

I have to say this is one of the nicest ones they've ever done, although I don't think they'll ever do better than the 2006 one.
