Dude, go have some one put you in this position and see if you can roll out of it. Lol, ignorance.
The demonstrator is missing a few details that make this even stronger. With the arm under the head, Grab further back, wrapping the hand around the tricep, not bicep. It sinks the choke deeper and requires less leverage when dismounting.
Also, the further the angle you dismount to the opponents side, the tighter the choke, and squeezing tightly with the arms becomes unnecesarry.
thanks for the clear explainations on the techniques. I find that when I do the arm triangle, I usually end up cranking their neck, instead of choking them. I was wondering if you guys or anyone else had any suggestions for this, because I really don't want to hurt someone's neck, and I would prefer just getting the choke. (what can I say, I'm trying to be a nice guy!!)
When crossing the arm, make sure you lift a little upwards. Watch the shoulder of that arm that you cross over because it needs to elevate up. Its like forcing a shoulder shrug on that side. That's going to block the carotid artery on that side of the neck while your other arm sweeps in and blocks off the artery on the other side. So yeah, make sure the elbow of the arm you cross on your is higher than the shoulder, and make sure the shoulder from that arm shrugs up.
Very good instructional video. Very detailed. All those little subtleties like where to grab yourself/opponent, or where to position yourself is really important. And this video doesnt leave any questions left in the viewer's head. Good Video.
I don't know how it happened but the arm triangle became my bread and butter. If you're in side control and you see someone's arm go up by their head bury your head into the ground and trap their arm against their head. Don't let them slide their arm back under your head and there's a good chance you'll eventually get them. If you lock up the grip from side control and flip your body to the other side of them, it is a very tight choke.
Yeah it can...your opposite bicep and the knuckles cut off the blood to the head........zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz haha
shucks today i tried this move. unfortunately i did not put my ear as close to my partners ears. Which i think caused a gap in the triangle choke. He was able to breathe through it. And there i was squeezing like a crazy fucker and eventually gassed and got submitted.
Is it advisible to pull my partner towards me as i go to the side control to minimize the gap?
i think the best way to do the arm triangle, and how joe rogan explains it, is when you have the mount, put your arm around your opponents neck, go to side control and turn like a clock getting tighter and tighter constricting blood to the brain.

Doesn't matter as long as you're bringing everything together.

In any submission, space is the enemy. You want to cut out as much space as you possibly can. In short- yes; it is advisable.

is there an escape from an arm triangle ?
cburcinc 3 years ago
Has anyone ever heard of a "front naked choke" - like an arm triangle choke, without the opponent's arm in the way ?
I know it is not allowed in competition, but neither are heel hooks, and there are vids of heel hooks.
Thanks !!!
