  • オスカーピーターソンの早引きグルーヴ感が出せる人いないよね

  • to understand the psychology of people who hate something that doesn't emit anything harmful, while still coming on here, is to understand the reason why the world hangs in the balance. i'm sure if there was a hate icon instead of a dislike icon, it would have been clicked 9 times.

  • @thetalkingmule7 this is so true!!

  • 9 people plays piano

  • Fuck amazon!!!! All I want is this track. Its gonna cost me $10.00. thats worth it except that every other fucking song is only $1. great.

  • 9 people got left back like two times

  • this is just absurd. in a good way i mean.

  • fucking awesome

  • Awesome!

  • Meu Deus!! Vi lembranças brincarem perante meus olhos. Olhem a paixão nos olhos desse rei, maravilhoso!!!!

  • KING

  • Crazy!

  • なんて美しいんでしょう!!

  • 10 people got lost in wonderland and pressed the wrong button

  • @rlatjdwo1

    その通り!

  • I saw this same quartet playing in San Francisco years ago. Just fabulous! As for the suicide comment made earlier... what twaddle!! Oscar, Joe and Niels played together many times. Joe used to comment, as many guitar players do, that it's always problematic competing with the volume of a piano, but he and Oscar both considered each other to be exemplary and world-class musicians.

  • Wonderful! What a peer: Peterson and Pass playing togheter the beautiful melodie of Disney's tune.

  • i love the emotion that he shows when he plays. he reminds me of the great erroll garner in this respect

  • QUE BONITA INTERPRETACIÓN, NO CABE DUDA QUE TODOS SON GRANDES MÚSICOS. GRACIAS POR SUBIR ESTOS VIDEOS

  • Why did Joe Pass take this gig? It's like a suicide mission!

  • @Modes9 Why a suicide mission? I don't understand.

  • @Modes9 are you talking about this gig in particular or are you referencing Joe's entire career with Oscar which spanned decades? just curious...

  • @Modes9 why did Joe take this gig--hmmm, well considering Joe and Oscar played together for like 25 years it would make sense for Joe to go along with him to Japan. As for it being a suicide mission--Joe can hang with the best of em.

  • you can hear tatum though this playing loud and clear. only peterson can do this.

  • I was named after this guy

  • Brubeck is only equal to his...

  • @TheImaginaryday brubeck isn't worthy of that praise in my opinion. I think most jazz musicians would agree too. if you want pianists as good as O.P. look up bill evans and wynton kelly.

  • whys everybody talkin bout tatum you guys are on the wrong video

  • Bill Evans version is much better

  • @juanpoyola according to you

  • @juanpoyola nah I like Oscar's best! I just wish there wasn't the distortion in the background.

  • Great!! Oscar Peterson and Joe Pass together playing "Alice in Wonderland" is a wonderful experience!!

  • Good music makes me smile. Oscar makes me cry. So much goodness.

  • Great !!!

  • I'm never touching a piano again.

  • @TheChuckd80 That's what Oscar said when he heard Tatum play ;P

  • I'm very sadden that I didn't go see this genious in person before he left us.

  • niels....

  • Besides the fact that his feel is not reproducible, his playing is just a bunch of patterns, each of which can be learned in a day or two. they aren't long patterns but there are many and through his brilliance they connect in a very beautiful way.

  • @EyMeng Arguably, everything you can play in music is a bunch of pattern.

  • @logmeup2 modal church music has non-repeating monophonic lines.

  • Comment removed

  • @logmeup2 modal church melodies often had original melodies in in the early 1st millenum. if the notes were ever played before, it was not heard by the composers. they just came up with new melodies. Oscar here is using a vast number of licks that he has learned, able to play in any key and flawlessly transition between them. there is a comparatively small number of musical sequences that work with swing and bop. Oscar and Art pushed the very limits of these genres, respectively.

  • @EyMeng Good point and great counter-argument. I'll look up into it! Thanks for the share!

  • FANTASTIC

  • I could play like that...haha jk I couldn't play like that if I practiced every day till the end of my life nothing beats the petermeister!

  • Alice as Extrovert.

  • I'm diggin the first frase of his solo at 1:58.

    AMAZING!!!

  • Wow! What a load of energy!!

  • Joe Pass is the man.

  • Probably one of my favourite O. Peterson live recordings. I notice there is a slight distortion sound, probably due to the fact that this recorded on tape and aged over time? Does anybody know if there is a remastered version of this?

  • @BizzMarki you can buy it on amazon... its worth it... =)

  • No wonder my jaw dropped to the floor, OSCAR PETERSON AND JOE PASS WERE PLAYING!!

  • Felling... this guy is pure felling.

  • Toca demasiado bien el maestro Oscar.

  • Go Oscar go!!!!!!

  • I WANT THIS SONG.... Where can i download/buy (in spain) this song????????

  • @jermonero10 itunes

  • Masters of the Art form display there enriched spirits so magnificently

  • wonderbass

  • Umm Art Tatum and Phineas Newborn, Jr! You can't sleep on them either!

  • miss him...and Niels-Henning....

  • Amazing....

  • Thats it! I will never play the piano again!

  • @kevingfrost i know what you feel!!! ;) haha

  • Yeah Joe Pass! He's the only one comparable to Oscar Peterson, except Pedersen. And the drummer. What a group...

  • holy shit !

  • Beautiful :)

  • Signore e Signori, ladies and gentleman, madame et monsieur, ecco a Voi la legenda del pianoforte. Avete visto quanto ride quando attacca le sue improvvisazioni? E' semplicemente meraviglioso.

  • O. P. is simply the greatest! Once I made up my mind to just enjoy him and not try to play like him, I found virtually a lifetime of study material in every performance. Watching him is almost as educational as listening: notice how his hands maintain a high bridge, broad palm coverage, and a perfect curvature throughout. In short he plays with his whole hands rather than just his fingers. BTW, this is a very lovely tune that I imagine Bill Evans would have devoured with its shoes on!

  • @methu124 Bill Evans did record this, I think it was live at the Village Vanguard. I have it somewhere anyway. It is a very different style than this -- much more laid back. It is marvelous, go find it!

  • It's not fair. It's just not fair!!! Such mind-blowing technique. Agreed that their hands are where it's at. No thinking, just doing.

  • me encantaa!! :D:D::D:D:DD:

  • BEAUTIFUL!!!!!

  • Que gran version, y no sabia que estaba joe pass

  • just...awesome o.O

these men really love the music!!!

jazz is the best ever! ^^ (and rock xD)

  • wow NHOP is soooooooo crazy good. WOW

  • Sheer genius.

    timeless.

  • Beautiful song magically played from one of the most awesome jazz pianist! Bravo!

  • i could sell my mother to play like him...

  • their handS THEIR HANDS !!!

  • I love how he's not even watching the piano as he's playing. I guess for him playing the piano is almost like talking.

  • simplismente maravilhoso!!!

  • so feras

  • After all these years, all I can saw is Wow!

  • i love u oscaaaaaaaaar ! ! ! :*

  • 果然係master級。 improvisation 勁到爆

  • Were can I get this dvd from?

  • God Bless his Soul...........

  • Good news! The online version has HD link also at WatchAlice. TK

  • if they played this in the movie i would totally watch it just for this

  • awesome..................

  • 3:20 this guy is the best

  • morron

  • Holy mother of God!

  • these dudes are the real deal

  • Oscar... always inspiring!

  • why isnt this appart of the movie soundtrack?

There should be at least one rendition of this standard. Instead they have to stupid, generic "Dramatic movie music" that they have for every movie. As for as the soundtrack is concerned in "alice and wonderland", I hate it.

  • @dillmon1

exactly. And almost everyone on this

site is spammin bout the movie.

    bytheway: these guys are awesome

anotherbytheway: dont like the new burtonmovie

  • He is way to awesome :D "I love it" (=

  • 3:22

    wtf..

    amazing

  • WOW THAT WAS AWESOME!

  • no one can be like oscar. ever.

  • @whoisthelovebrigade Art Tatum trumps him

  • @DuhJeffmeister i never said that no one is better or was better. i said that no one can BE like oscar. there is no debating that.

  • Check out Joe Pass' solo at 4:26 to 4:36...

    Jizz in my pants...

  • Maestro

  • Damn, I wish I could play like this

  • @377phoenix Well, Oscar started when he was a kid and practiced for at least 5 hours a day. So if you double that and practice for 10 hours a day for the rest of your life, maybe you'll be able to play the first couple of minutes of this song like Oscar by the time you're about 70. Good luck.

I'm an adult beginner piano student and have to make it a point to not listen to Oscar or any other legends on the day of a lesson. It just makes me wonder how I could even dare to touch a piano!

  • @377phoenix well if you never practice you dont have a chance

  • @860125mwj Dont worry, I practice. But there's a difference between playing jazz and playing jazz like Oscar..

  • Mercy! This is.......speechless!

  • This is how music should be played...

  • This is classic Oscar who is supported and enhanced by Martin, Niels, and Joe who are masters in their own right. I have this recording on a CD entitled "Return To Happiness" which was part of a JATP concert in Tokyo, 1983. It is 2 disc set and includes many other s such as Ella, Clark Terry, Zoot Sims.. Thanks for the posting.

  • Virtuose!! Great!!

  • Great!!

  • I dont understand.

I dont have this song in the Tokyo 1983 DVD.

    Where is this taken from?

  • I want just to say WOW ! That is Jazz music. Pure energy and soul

  • I'm so happy!

This music is amazing, thanks for posting, it's marvellous!

  • Freedom!!

  • Thanks !

Im using this video as inspiration for my own version / changes for Alice in Wonderland.

What did we ever do before the days of

    YOUTUBE ? :o)

    Cheers from Denmark !

  • what a bass solo!

  • Yes!

But this clip doesn't show his might.

He could "thum" and "thim" better than most bass players in history!

Alas - NHOP was a giant on bass, much loved by fellow musicians and jazzlovers!

Still - He deserved more appreciation.

His melodic playing and technique was unsurpassed, especially in uptempo!

  • wath a hands...

  • such a precise finger slide at 3:22. I got to know Oscar Peterson audibly before I ever saw him play. Watching him play brings my amazement to a new level. Makes me wish I would of spent the money at the blue note to go see him before he passed.

  • I saw him twice but in auditorium settings and he played solo both times. I would have loved to see him at the Blue Note in such an intimate setting in the Village. I did catch the MJQ there once back in the day. Good show. Milt Jackson ftw.

  • man that's freaking insane! what a crazy technique.

  • Shhhhh!!!! God himself is playing the keys....!

  • Well, at least God gave Himself a rest on the Shabbat, but Oscar never lets up.

  • Art Tatum-father

  • That's a strange coinsidence... LOL :D

  • And my name is "Oscar Pieter" :P A Dutch name, but i was named after Oscar Peterson by my dad who's a big fan. But you can refer Peterson in Holland to Pieter.

  • oscar, many thanks. you' ll always be in my heart

  • Great!

  • ARG

i accidently pressed one star when i was trying to click play to repeat the song again..

    my bad.

No matter what star rating Peterson gets, he always gets one of the highest rating in my heart when it comes to music.

  • no sweat, I compensated your with 5 from me ;)

  • haha thanks ;D

  • It never fails to move your guts to bits.

  • Rest in Peace, Oscar Peterson, Joe Pass and Niels Orsted Pederson.

  • It's not a competition... They are different versions...

Both of them beautiful... They play to make good music, not to make a version better than the other...

  • I didn't say it was a competition. It's a matter of personal interpretation for each artist. That doesn't mean you can't have an opinion on things...

  • It's soo sad that only the drummer is alive today.

  • I'm so grateful that this performance was recorded for us to enjoy. Their genius lives on.

  • Exciting! Jubilant!

  • excelentne no coment !!!

  • オスカー・ピーターソンのピアノはテクニックがあり、ブルージーなところが好きです。

  • Naaa, dejate de joder. No podés juntar a Joe Pass y Oscar Peterson sobre el mismo escenario. Menos sobre "Alice in Wonderland". Sublime. Este tema dura horas...
