Redundancy and performance.

It's an aircraft that was made to get in and out of smaller fields so its configuration and engine layout make it capable of its excellent performance.

Plus 4 is better is better than 2 for reasons of if one engine quits you've still got 3 more. I'm pretty sure you can still fly a 146 on 2 engines. Albeit you'll be descending to land and declaring an emergency if you have 2 failures.

The BAe-146 series doesnt reverse

@NTpyros True, they just use a combination of brakes and flaps and spoilers to bring it to a halt. Although unique to this Bae aircraft its flight spoilers are not only on the wing, the rear of the plane opens up and helps slow aswell.

the thing I hate about BAe's is that their engines just block the whole view from the window. Thats why I always ask for the front or back seat.
