palm doesnt own the palm OS anymore. long story but access inc owns the palm os now and they are adding the palm os to a linux base os. access inc bought palm os for about 350 mil. palm has been working on their own linux for a few years now. should be out sometime in near future

Actually Palm DOES own the Palm OS. They are coming out with a new Palm OS smartphone early next year. The OS will be called Palm OS Nova. The new company strategy is to put the WM based devices up against RIM devices, the new OS Nova devices against Apple, and the Centro with its OS 5.4 will remain for entry level smartphone consumers. The keyboard is a bit wider than on the Centro; not as big as on the old Treos but should still be good.

unlocked for the US is GSM system so only works on tmobile or AT&T wont work on sprint or verizon. the treo 800w is a CDMA working on sprint and verizon. unlocked allows you use it without a contract and can use it without carrier's software on device.

i been using smartphones like these for about 4 years. if you are doing alot of email text instant messaging and web browsing these are better phones. they are reliable. its like having a mini laptop. for me i could never go back to a regular cell phone. hope that helps

i have had all the palm OS phones im on treo755p. and i like the centro as well. mobile windows 6.1 on treo pro is alot more advanced then palms 5.4 for treo palm OS. palm is moving to a linux OS for future palm OS replacement. hard to say which is better. i never liked any windows mobile till 6.1 came out. also the treo pro will have 400mhz processor vs centro 312mhz. i am moving to windows 6.1 til palm replaces the palm OS with a linux. i like palm OS still
