FA is certainly dead. I have the most recent version, and i've only ever seen 3 servers up at a time. One had bots, one had a messed .dll and the other one had custom maps. Thank god for the bots.

I used to tk and team woud a lot but the most funny thing was to block doors, preventing teammats to exit the spawn point. This was hilarious.

I also used to set claymores on ammo boxes and shotgun teammates down the cliffs, breaking their leg. I also enjoyed watching teammates die of bleedin while i was a medic and refused to treat them.

This was the good old days, when P01550n was a names to hated and feared in the communauty.

gdamn I couldn't begin to count the hours I've spent playing FA. the gameplay was ahead of its time imo. Until COD4 came out, I don't I had played a FPS to compare to it.

Yeah I used to play on Angry Old Farts. I was never clanned but I could wipe the floor on just about every server. I went by the name of PovertyPistolSniper

Yeah, Firearms was an amazing mod, probably one of the best HL mods out there next to CS and DOD. As a matter of fact, FA could of been just as successful as CS was, and that almost did happen until the WON servers shut down back in 2003.

I'd have to disagree as to the popularity of CS vs FA. I remember CS always had more servers available while FA usually stuck around the 120 mark. CS had more fad going for it. To appreciate FA, you had to be a gamer that isnt too worried about realism or graphics.

IMO, games (or parts of a game) can fall into one of two styles: Realism or Arcade.

FA being the arcade side that CS is the realistic side of, of course.

Arcade generates loyalty. Realism generates popularity. or somethin like that

Of course i might of been exaggerating, and CS was still the most popular thing at the time but, FA could of been just as good, however there were a few factors that kept it from getting popular as it should have. By the time steam was released, FA was slowly dying.

FA was much more realistic than CS outside of recoil and aiming. You had bleeding, reloading of actual bullet clips as opposed to bullets filling into your gun perfectly and also mechanics like stamina and movement speed (based on armor and weight.)

@asfastasicanyt anyone can make a realistic game, its not hard. CS invented or brought to the masses a unique weapon buying system, nothing to do with realism, but it was hella fun

@asfastasicanyt it was an excellent mods for the medics too : bleeding, bandaging (stop bleeding/heal HP), broken leg (high fall or strong damage to the leg), emergency evacuation (with a mini-copter and everything) giving you back the reinforcement, and of course the field hospital flag to regroup the wounded
