I prefer the 260 with the torquey, smooth V8, and this is coming from someone that has owned both the 190 and the 260 (which I have now). But anyone thinking about buying one, here's some advice: do.
@megaperpy oh right really, wow sounds like it is limited, i dont actually know a v6 car that would do less than 140, i mean a lot of the cars which have 190 brake, can go past 150, dont see why ours cant do that.
@ricka006 You need at least 200-225bhp to get 140mph out of a modern heavyweight cars these days! The 195bhp that the old Vauxhall Senator had in the 80's was only just enough to nudge 150mph, and that weighed two thirds of any modern family car...
@discocreator76 sounds like you had engine problems. They really are not that slow for their size and weight. Fuel economy only really suffers if you constantly boot it. otherwise 30mpg for a 2.5 v6 aint bad..
@dr230 According to a few specialists there was nothing wrong with it, it would be flat and sluggish around town, and on the open road it would have a narrow power band that was ok but not exilirating (my old Sierra 2.9 was much more powerful feeling), lack of torque was the worst thing though, test drove a 160 before I bought the 190 and I thought that was a joke, flat as a fart!! MPG ranged from 15mpg round town to 25 if you were VERY light footed on a run.... not impressed at all!!!
@monkeyboy27476 thats fair enough. Well I can only really compare to other cars I have driven, which does include a couple of xr4x4's. I've driven a tuned 2.9 sierra which made 189bhp @ flywheel, tuned by a fella called Taps. I've driven a standard 2.9 and I have owned a 2.8 tt230 that was a torquey beast so not really comparable.. The 190+ atleast in my opinion is'nt bad at all especially for a car that weighs 150kg+ more than the xr4x4's, the short ratio box fitted to the 190 should -
I don't get it, if people are going to make vids like this remember to turn the fucking noise you listen to thru the stereo off ! We want to hear the engine not some crap music.
And then there are the MG ZT-T witxh is basically all the cars above but in estate version, although I dont think they made a 260 version into an estate.
And then you have the + catagory witch basically gave you TV and satnav, with duel control Aircon and other tweaks and bits.
affcbbran an MG ZS 180 only feels quicker than the ZT 190 as it is a smaller car, the zt is a grand tourer so it's not meat to feel like a boy racer car but a swift effortless cruiser. There is not much difference but a ZT would prove to be the quicker car
a zs will wipe the floor with a zt, yer only 10 bhp in it but the weight of the zs is just over 11ookg and the zt is no way near as quick as the zs, whats the 0-60 of a zt?????? not 6.2 thats for sure. :)
the zt is the ultimate grandads car, lol, yer very confident, my zs weighs 1100 kg and is runnin about 140hp, u call my vid bullshit and u cant even see your speedo, ha ha ha
a nissan 200sx turbo could beat ur zs anyday m8 so how bout u stop thinkin ur the best and shut up, no shit ur zs is quick but the zt v6 has alot of stuff in it like sat nav, tv,V6 ENGINE, and also its a big family car so its goin to be heavy. ur so full of ur own bullshit m8
i know it would, my zs is only the 1.8, im not full of bull im just tellin the facts, why would he post a vid of his car slowly pulling in 6th gear to get laughed at??? im guessing he is in 4th gear but who knows?/
The ZT 190 in a straight line is not as quick as the V8 or the ZS 180, but it wont be far off depending on drivers.
BUT! get to the bends and the 190 will kiss them both goodbye.
Like I said, the Stig could only manage 135secs in the V8 around the top gear track. The 190 did it 133secs dead. Front wheel drive made the difference!
The 190 was only 3 tenths of a sec behind a an Audi TT 3.2 turbo with four wheel drive!
Dont take my word for it, check out the BBC TG website!
Guys forget the 10Bhp difference between the ZS and ZT, the difference is noticed in corners. Somthing the Stig proved by taking a 190ZT around the TG track 2 secs faster that the lazy yank 4.6 v8 LOL
Yes, I also think so.. But this is my father´s car.. I´m more in for japanese cars like the Impreza and Evo ;) And they are so easy to tune till 400bhp 8)
@anthony9325 Bollox. It's all to do with gear box ratios. Mine does 70-100mph in 4-5 secs in top gear. Worthy of any V8. But only because of the V6's low ratio box. And the 190 handles a lot better than the 260 yank crap engine in the ZT. So horses for courses as they say.
A little change in the ECU. The ZT is more expensive, so if the ZS were faster, more people will go for the ZS.. I did a test with an ZS a couple of weeks ago, my ZT was faster from 80-180km/h
i used to own a zs 180 and now own a zt 190. the zs is faster. 0-60 60-100 and even when you drop it down a couple of gears. the zt is no where near as quick as the zs.

my dad has a 190 2.5 v6 and we think it is limited because it seems as tho it can go much faster than its top speed
ricka006 1 year ago
@ricka006 id agree as i have a 190 and it hits 140 mph then stops to suddenly as if theres a limiter on it

@dr230 - make town driving comfortable in any gear and keep the engine feeling very responsive. Atleast thats what I've found to be true :)

On closer inspection it shows just over 60kph excelerating to 160kph in roughly 17 secs.
Basically 40mph to 100mph.
And it looks like downhill looking at the view at the end.
I will try the same thing in my 190 on a level road. I bet it beats that. When it gets to 70mph in 5th it pulls like a train past 100mph easy.
Be interesting to compare and I have to say I NEVER race fellow MG'ers! It's just not cricket.
mgzt190plus 3 years ago
dude ill race ya fuck cricket, my mg zs 1.8 will leave u standing, HA HA HA

you seem to be very confident about your car son, which is quite brve considering its only 120brake in a heavy grandads car!!

The ZT V8 is faster than 190.
0-100km/h in 6.6 seconds.
190 needs 8.2 seconds.
maniacsman1985 3 years ago
stock the ZT 190 (2.5) has 190 bhp. Really quite a fast car between 100 and 200 kph.
Not that much slower than the V8 (260 bhp), but it needs to be revved hard, whereas the V8 can accelerate from 1000 revs in fifth
anthony9325 4 years ago
Yes, the ZT 190 is only fast between 4000 and 7000 RPM ;)
Do you have the V8, or is that not your car on the movie on you account?

err, yep, that's mine, and it's a V8.

why do these have 10bhp more than a zs 180 yet are abit slower. is it the weight. where does the extra 10 bhp come from
afcbbran 4 years ago
A little change in the ECU. The ZT is more expensive, so if the ZS were faster, more people will go for the ZS.. I did a test with an ZS a couple of weeks ago, my ZT was faster from 80-180km/h

not just the ECU, the breathing is improved (air intake)
