It's funny how folks are saying stuff like, "He didn't make any boards....blah blah blah...." How do you know? Did you ever go to his house and watch him work? Do you think he really cares what you have to say? Thought so..
Man, I hate this video. Has this guy ever even held a skateboard in his hands? The info is completely misleading. The pictures are ridiculous. It tells you nothing you really need to know. It is hilarious that this video has so many views. I would be embarrassed to have any affiliation with this crap. What an ass!
@ooooskateboarding He doesn't give you exact details for a reason. This is to give you ideas, and to get you started so you can engineer one to work for your needs. They aren't going to spoon feed it to you...
@RidinReggz He does not give exact details because he has never made a board! Check my vids D I Y Skateboard short (welcome home and re edit) and read the info..... That is REAL information :) From my nine years of experience making boards I stand by my original opinion -- this video is completely misleading and tells you nothing you need to know for manufacturing or business.
not exactly, the veneer can be bent, but if you want the veneer to bend into the shape of a board PERMANETLY, then obviously, you need alot of pressure to make the veneer get on use to its new shape, then the glue will bind it together, and now you have a permenant shape.
Hi Sir thanx for sharing and much respect for wanting to support and build skateboards. However I can tell you that if you don't absolutly love skateboarding your just throwing your money away. I have been skateboarding for 25 years & I have made my own boards for nine years now the pressing is the easiest part! I paid an old welder a sixty pounder of vodka for my press. I've made 700 boards with this baby. Check my DIY skate short & click the info tab. its a summary of all my research.
try finding the wood first, cause these days the price is up, so unless you are getting a truckload it's not worth it. on ebay you can get boards for under $10 a piece. a skateboard has 28 feet of veneer in it and local places selling the wood are charging a dollar a foot. so you are paying $30 for the wood, that doesn't include glue, paint, tools and work. my gues $50-$100,000 would be a good start, if you got the money, you might want to find a bunch of potential buyers before you get into it.
for anybody who thinks this is a good idea, think again. first watch some videos of how the pro's do it, and I bet you will come up with a better invention than this guy. You can tell it's a bad idea because it has no ending.
If you have a skateboard mold you can jus put it next to a ledge with a board all ready to press, but instead of pressing the board you can have someone drive and pak a truck or minivan on it and that should be enough weight to make a board.
bad idea you need even pressure per square inch. Four tires will apply uneven pressure in 4 points that probably will be too big for a skateboard press
nice plan, very helpful, may just stick with buying blank decks though, i dont want to make a bad investment in the press.... in case my boards wouldnt sell
Dude, why else would someone want to mass produce skateboards? To sell them and make money, dumb fuck. Being able to skate has nothing to do with selling skateboards.
Yes it does. You have no idea. You don't try to make a career out of something you don't like to do. Plus it takes money away from other true companies that are in it because they love skating. I bet you rollerblade.
WTF are you talking about? True companies? Almost every company out there is claiming "Canadian hard-rock maple" yet the shit is made in China (or Mexico if you are Zero/Slave/Mystery)! There are no true companies left. Blank boards and shop decks killed them.
How long have you been skating for? A year or two? I commend you for your zest and attitude for skateboarding, but the world of skateboarding that you think you know doesn't exist.
no lyndon the wood is made in canada, sent to china to produce the boards that way they can sell them cheaper and sent back. theres no trees in china that can support what skateboards need to be able to do. it costs $24 to produce a board in america, and $6 to produce one in china. and since boards sell for roughly 50 bucks, which is 8 times what they produce for in china, imagine how much they would sell for if they were only made in america or people would pay more for an american board
@pink3m0kid75 Hahahahaha. This video is lame and so are you for defending it. First time on the internet kid? YouTube is full of bullshit and this video is one of the biggest piles on here! Two fuckin years and one video? Gee, you think this asshole gave up? hahahahahahaha! Oh yeah, and where EXACTLY does he talk about business at all? your post is fucking hilarious! Thanks for the laugh!
Here are three places that will help people get into making their own skateboards.
Silverfishlongboarding has a boardbuilding forum that is full of good info.
Roarockit Skateboard Company sells not only a complete build your own deck kit but they also stock hard to get 1/16″ maple veneers and inexpensive presses made specifically for pressing your own custom decks. They have both video and tutorials on deckbuilding.
Toothless also has a great set of tutorials on deckbuilding.
hey...i was looking at u'r video...and i thought it was pretty tight...i was also wondering if u'r sponsors could sponsor me...i'm pretty good...or maybe if u could sponsor me...that would be tight also...i'm just desperate for a sponsor right now....
Once I had one side done, I housed this in another wooden frame and poored crete over it, giving me the top form. I also threw in some metal handles from home depot to make it easier to lift.
I essentially took an already-made pro-model skateboard, built a wooden frame around it, added a thin sheet of wood ontop of either end to turn the board into a proper rectangular shape so the concrete wouldn't poor out through the gaps at the end, then poured the crete in and let it set overnight.
I was just planning to make my own press just like yours but instead of tubular steel i planed to use beams or girders (i don't know the correct word), couse that's what i see in some pictures of presses. anyway, i'm gonna use a bottle jack too becouse it its actually a hydraulic but a manual one, so the result should be the same.
Hi, thanks for sharing that info. I've been dreaming on making skateboards almost since i started skating 15 years ago. too bad didn't have internet by that time.
