I remember taping this off TV at the time when it went out live. I also remember interviewing them not longer for my radio show and the band not being too happy with the song live, but I love this, it's an amazing song, and still sounds great.
Love em, but you guys have to admit miki is out of tune a great deal here, as in many of the live performances you can hear around...the mix is not in her favour though.
I feel opposite, watch the whole video, Miki is so into it I love it. She has such a beautiful voice...Emma is the same. I love this video...I think Miki evens out just fine, search for Lush at the Dome, you'll see the same song better quality audio.
She sounds like a moaning sick cow and looks like ronald mcdonald. It's funny because Emma is singing on key and praying Miki will tune her voice against it but it never happens. Must have had an ear infection or something
I remember an interview with Miki in which she revealed a fondness with a couple of drugs....could that have made live performances a little inconsistant?
But I also managed to hang out with them after a show in Boston because I handed some stupid drawing I had done of Miki to her onstage (always seemed to work), and there was no trace of drugs, just free beer. I don't remember the whole night, but I know I had a good time, and Miki was as nice as could be.
As a U.S.-based Lush fan, I'll always see this as Lush's peak, i.e. immediately post-Gala, as the breadth and depth of Spooky was taking shape. I loved all Lush albums and tours, but this era stands out above the rest. I'll also always see Lollapolooza 1992 as the end of airy, transcendental Lush.
I agree. I know quite a lot of good bands and albums, but "Spooky" is my fave ever. How I wish I could have been at Lolapalooza '92 ! At least, I saw them twice, during the "Black Spring" tour in october '91 and the "Split" tour, three years later.

You see this as their peak? Maybe for their studio albums, but Miki's singing here is totally off key and flat. Can't hold a tune to save her life. If this is their peak that's pretty damning. I love their studio recordings but live they are just painful
Miki was the first to admit in the beginning her voice kind of suffer, but I think she got way better. I still like watching these early live performance. Plus, I love the dresses her and Emma use to wear.
Exactly! He was saying their best was '94. This video was from like '91.
But I still disagree. I used to watch the Dennis Miller show, and I caught them once, doing "For Love"- it was almost studio good. Must have been 1992. That performance is here on Utube as well...
I love this period. I think if you watch some of the later periods you can see that Miki's singing did get better. But, there are some clips of her in 1991 that are just awesome. Miki and Emma were never powerful vocalist live, but I still think they were great. For Love on Dennis Miller was awesome. One of my favorites by them.

They were always a little amateurish live, but that was part of their charm. Stuff they did was however hauntingly good.

Miki was a bit shaky in the beginning, but her voice evened out, and this sounded amazing. (Especially with the flanger pedal)

Although I am emotionally closer to Gala-era Lush, by 1996 they had become an astonishing live band. Sorry: they were better at the end.

You should get an earing aid instead of waisting your time writing those cobblers.
