how many times you heard they mention Jesus? Without Him, how to love people, love community, love creation? If that is the view from ELCA, we Lutheran...
Sorry, but I am not at all assured. It is not enough to use the word "gospel," nor that there be some references drawn from the Bible. Secular motivational speakers do that. What is needed is a firm grasp of the biblical gospel message of redemption from sin through the finished work of Christ. It is preaching Christ crucified that will build His church, not any combination of silly Emergent fads. If there was truly an emphasis on this Gospel at Christianity 21, it does not show in this video.
These videos area a collection of a few individuals thoughts and ideas about how to bring Christ's message to the greater community in the midst of what is a widespread shrinking of Christian congregations. I encourage you to add your own specific thoughts and ideas on how to rekindle that passionate fire of Christ's love and sacrifice in the hearts of people in your community.
Christianity 21 was full of people sharing their stories of Gospel-centric ministry. I heard several scriptural references in the video. Tickle talked about the early church (which is described in Acts and most of the epistles)...Wes mentioned the Last Supper and washing the disciples feet...Julie talked about our need to love God (1st commandment). Be assured -- these people are real Christians who love the Bible, confess the Trinity, and are passionate about living out the Great Commission.
talk... talk... talk... talk... talk... meanwhile in the real world of ministry people are actually serving not just talking about it, actually sharing the gospel, and actually living in community instead of complaining and insulting the church. I used to be really interested in this emergent stuff... now it is becoming boring.
Remember that the gospel (not the community) is the power of God unto salvation.
