I have to say, your videos are very helpful! I was hoping you could answer my question, because with all the searching I did, I just couldn't find a solution. When I try to zip up an app on my desktop, it won't let me. Is there something special I have to do to zip an app? And I make sure my directory is my Desktop, but nothing seems to work... Thanks!
@izzytons You may need to add a -r after the zip command. For instance, `zip -r Foobar.app.zip Foobar.app`. The only other problems that I can think of are that you're 1) not CD'd to your Desktop, or 2) Are not putting quotes around the name of the app.
@macheads101 Thank you so much for replying! My problem was with adding the extension. I was not putting the .app on the target file. I am so thankful you answered my question. I love to know how to do things manually with terminal, instead of just clicking compress after right clicking! Thanks again!
Hey i know you already showed how to do this once but i forgot what video what it was in. How do you edit a text document in terminal. Well im not sure what kind of file it is i did something and made cool.save and dont know what it means...
hahaaha dude please respond to this, so i encrypted a file, right, then im like hmm... i opened with "the unarchiver" and it opened it within seconds. not too secure of an encryption. also i double clicked, and it had the same error as you. i suggest you research "the unarchiver"
@macheads101 what about the chmod 700, and chown commands? to stop people from accessing your computer. btw i love your vids, EVERYTHING i learnt about terminal is from you.
@gibraltadude that can change the permissions on a file, but if they boot into single user mode they can bypass the basic file permissions. With encryption, the file has to be decrypted in order to be viewed.
im totally in agreement man, you man this thing into something funtional and fun. id rather use this to do things at school haha. next year im saying BUH BY to open office. i knew lots of this but now i know more
Hello macheads101,

@gibraltadude yes zip encryption is not the best. If you actually want high-level security, I would suggest using professional software for it.
