Just so you know, the Perlin noise algorithm has NOTHING to do with DX10. It would work just the same on pretty much any DX version, as long as the video card was strong enough.

Exactly i HAVE to buy vista which costs a good £200 so saying it is free is just stupid. Dx10 is a feature of vista infact one of its main selling points thus it is not free.

Yh i hate it when people say that, they are biased against DX10 cause of bad press, i won't get DX10 cause i think its to expensive atm but its still a very impressive piece of software.

I thought that they always used sprites (as in textures) of fire or smoke to make it seem like something is on fire.. didnt know there was a way to create something without textures.

As someone pointed out, there has been better looking fire in games before, but it's never been 3D (always sprites).
