@CanonWildlifeBrkshre S stands for Studio if I'm not mistaken. The 1Ds series is fullframe while the 1D is 1.3x crop sensor, which means your lenses' focal length is multiplied by 1.3 (a 100mm lens has the field of view of a 130mm lens). The 1D also has faster frame rate than the 1Ds

Wow okay....7000 bucks for that? I don't know why photography equipment is so damn expensive. To get a decent light for portrait work is at least 250 to 300 bucks....a 77 mm uv filter is 150 bucks....tilt shift lens is 3000 bucks.......it's rediculous...decent light meters are 3-500 bucks.....tripods are 2-300 bucks......what the hell. It's frustrating especially considering how difficult it is to make any of that money back doing photography.

Now I have a Canon 60D, I'm not saying there isn't a difference between them, but what it comes down to is you seeing a good composition, and snapping a frame off. Pros use these cameras because it decreasing time and effort in post production fixing what the camera couldn't do to start. Say, snapping a frame with a poor HDR, and then lightroom-ing it later! (=

@donttrustany1 @mikeyEDITS I agree with @Spouch honestly, just because it's a 8k dollar camera, doesn't mean it shouldn't have a pop up flash. I can get some really nice fill light with my 60D, very handy when shooting outdoor portraits in heavy back light situations. Can really soften shadows on the face. I don't know about you, but I wouldn't want to keep a nice camera in the studio all day, and I sure as hell wouldn't want to carry around a few hundred pounds of lighting equipment all day.

@Chinook249 well the camera itself doesn't have an internal wireless device, you would connect the cable to download the pics. that port is to connect a wireless transmitter which then allows you to transmit the pics from the camera to your computer wirelessly.

you need a connection somewhere to have a wireless device. e.g. a wireless mic still has the wireless receiver plugged into the mic jack.

so it has a connection because it doesn't have an embedded wireless transceiver.

@azjimy The 1D series are "low" resolution and really fast (8-10fps) and they all have 1.3crop sensor . the 1Ds are high resolution and full frame. The 1D 's are for sports and "fast" work the 1Ds's are for photoshoots and studios .. :)

I notice that whenever people show any of canon's 1D cameras, they attach the 85mm L USM lens, I think they do that to get it well balance since the lens is a kilogram or to show off a big glass lens on a big camera.

@cubeproduktion Depends, if you are an ACTUAL pro, and live out of photography, then get the 1Ds, as it is meant for that. The 5D mark II is a smaller, more consumer level alternative. The only advantages from the 1Ds mk III over the 5D mk II could be the option for Dual Flash Drive Cards, and also the lower ISO of 50, over the 100 of the 5D mk II (not necessarily good, but less ISO=Longer exposures :) ), I would get the 5D mk II because it is just much less expensive with the same features.

Something no1 seems to have noticed is that this is a 5D mk 2 with the battery grip ^^. The 5D mk2 and the 1Ds mk3 have the same specs. I would agree that however, I have heard the 1Ds gets better colors. The 1Ds also is water resistant (note: not water proof). But for those who want a more cheap 1Ds, buy the 5D mk2 with the batter grip, they both have a full frame sensor and 21.1 mpx.

I tested both 5d mark II and 1ds Mark III same day. As strange as it may sound 5D mark II had less noise and better picture quality in general.1Ds mark III had better color reproduction. I believe the mark iV will be a really cool camera.
