I stopped buying silent hill games after sh4. I dont like the new take on the series, and will not purchase any of their new merch. It should have ended with sh3 in my opinion, because everything after that was garbage, and its only being made to make a profit with bad games.
The true feeling of being alone in the silent hill world, the atmosphere, the creative and weird monsters, the great characters, is all dead now, and will never come back.

i tried playing 5, it was so boring. Not scary or a challenge in any way. it felt like dead space to me with the monsters, and thats not how a silent hill should be. And the atmosphere was all wrong. If your scared cuz you dont have more health drinks, you could always not pick them up in the other games you know. then you wont have any T_T
@RyviusRan That's not always true. The remake for the Resident Evil Code Veronica X added shadow effects, more realistic water effects, and different lighting. Tekken Tag Tournament was pretty much the only one that about changed the resolution and the smoothing and that was about it for that one.
I don't these games or a PS2 anymore so I'm buying. Fuck it. Its not the voice acting is worse, just different imo. If anything the soundtrack should stay intact.

If you watch any of their commentaries on their gameplay videos, they clearly don't know shit about the other games. I'm really trying to like Silent Hill Book of Memories. The concept of an online SH game where you make your own character is absolutely brilliant, but the screenshots remind me of Gauntlet.

And while they come up with some cool ideas; I'm still of the belief that Homecoming has the best combat in the series regardless of how many fans say it's unrealistic. Alex doesn't do anything with his weapons no average person couldn't do. I haven't seen screenshots of that yet, I've only heard basic information about it.

I'm just using the hex edit way and playing the old ones, the new voices are terrible, but people that haven't played them before it will be something I guess. SH3 is really bad voice for the characters and 2 luckily they let you choose in the new 2. Really though they look just as good stretched to HD res kinda pointless to release this they could have easily made patches lol they didn't even change much if ya think about it, no new animations the characters aren't even going to blink pointles.

@Steveo99801 Actually they don't really hate on it, they openly admitted to enjoying Shattered Memories as its own game and said Origins (though hard to play) was well implemented considering it was formatted to play on the PSP. There are no breaths of fresh air because anyone who played the previous entries in the series and actually PAYS attention to the overarching plot would know that Origins, Homecoming and SM are in no way Silent Hill games.

@Steveo99801 Those games either contradict the story the CREATORS of the series started or they are so far off from the original games that you could slap another name on it without changing a damn thing and no one would know the difference. Also who's the assholes? The 'pretentious' assholes defending the rights of the original cast, or Konami, the assholes re-releasing a series of games that are already available in 1080p and avoiding actor royalties by bringing in a new cast.
I so hope that this is true, being able to choose the original voices. To me the new voices don't have that depth & emotion like the originals do. The original voices are one of many reasons why Silent Hill 2 is a classic. If Silent Hill 3 HD has new voices, I hope you'll be able to choose between original & new. I have to agree with you, I love Silent Hill and the originals wern't made purely for money, like all games in the "old" industry it was made as a labour of love, the corporates have taken over the game industry but people havn't noticed, you're so right they want money only now, not to create a story and a good experiance.
I have no problem with the game being updated in HD just really sad about Silent Hill 4 not making it, especially when The Silent Hill Collection for the PS2 has all 3 justifying a Collection. As for the dialogue being redone this completely waters down the essence of the story, I wonder if they redone the dialogue for the Metal Gear collection ?
A) VAs for video games do not receive residuals on a standard basis, unless it is actually written into their contract.
B) Honestly, remakes are the best way to preserve games, because really, how long will your original discs truly last? Deterioration is a major problem that the video game industry will face without remakes, especially since they continue to make systems without full backwards compatibility. There WILL be a point where your old consoles stop working, what would you do then?

(not to mention the remake will be widescreen as opposed to the screen being chopped off on both sides). I can't wait for this remake! Honestly, I think EVERY game that ever got an average 9 or higher rating (assuming it is aged as well) should be remade for newer generations.

konami also release metal gear solid 2,3, and peace walker (i think) in an hd collection. if they are going to release hd remakes of games REMAKE THE FIRST ONE! metal gear solid 2's graphics were fine and mgs3's graphics are above some of todays standards.

So it seems like most people don't want new voices. Let me just say that I am very pleased about the new voices. I loved Silent Hill 2 in almost every way. The only thing keeping me from getting completely sucked into the world was the fact that the voice acting was atrocious at the least. Don't get me wrong, I'm sorry that Guy isn't getting the money he deserves... but that doesn't mean people shouldn't play a better version of the game.
I don't understand why people shit all over the original voice acting in SH 2. I thought the performances were great. Of course the dialogue may sound a bit awkward - they're in a hell town. James sounds convincingly confused during the entire game, and changes his tone to match the situation (like when he flirts a bit with Maria in the hospital and makes himself sound like a doofus: "Mmm, thanks~").
Silent Hill 3 is still getting revoiced.... just if you guys missed that.
I'm certainly not holding off on buying this though. My old versions don't play, and it's going to cost me a lot more than $40 to buy them separately for my Ps2, so whatever.

Why is it that a well renowned game series like Final Fantasy can survive with change in game elements and original working staff without severe fan backlash and Silent Hill can't? Guy Cihi is a little bitch. He never had a contract with Konami, they never wrote it up. He admitted it. AND you do NOT get residual when you act in a game! All the other actors said they know that, they told him that!
"He admitted he didn't have a contract," and in doing so he "admitted" that he owned the rights to his performance. In copyright law, no contract = full rights to the performer. If you own the rights to the performance, you can claim anything you want, and it was up to Konami to negotiate. They chose to ignore it and rerecord, and Guy took the high ground and granted the rights so as not to ruin his work.
If he hadn't, he still could have sued, since he would still have owned the work.

What difference does it make? Changes have been made to S.H. 2&3, for better or worse, it doesn't matter. Any true fan of the series is going to buy it, if nothing else, to add to their collection. If konami re-released the original S.H. & Harry was running around in a pink tutu, it wouldn't matter. It's a change, & it adds to the S.H. collection. Look up some of the collections people have, mutiple verions of one game? If nothing else, new cover art. One reason that I'll buy it. :D

The real only way that they could ruin the game is by making it not like the original version at all. They could give pyramid head the voice of eric cartman from south park, or make the nurses break dance, or make the human characters go see a broadway show, that's how they could ruin the game, not voice acting.

Still, If they can manage to keep the general vibe of the voices it wont make too much a difference. Id still prefer the original 10 fold.

This remake is not a remake it's just upping the resolution.
The PC version still looks the best.

@DMCMaster550 One thing I can't stand that you probably agree with is how the new developers are always talking about how they're "returning to that old Silent Hill feel". If you watch any of their commentaries on their gameplay videos, they clearly don't know shit about the other games. I'm really trying to like Silent Hill Book of Memories. The concept of an online SH game where you make your own character is absolutely brilliant, but the screenshots remind me of Gauntlet.

@Steveo99801 Oh I completely agree, the new guys seem to be trying their best to emulate SH 2. And while they come up with some cool ideas; I'm still of the belief that Homecoming has the best combat in the series regardless of how many fans say it's unrealistic. Alex doesn't do anything with his weapons no average person couldn't do. I haven't seen screenshots of that yet, I've only heard basic information about it.

I'm just using the hex edit way and playing the old ones, the new voices are terrible, but people that haven't played them before it will be something I guess. SH3 is really bad voice for the characters and 2 luckily they let you choose in the new 2. Really though they look just as good stretched to HD res kinda pointless to release this they could have easily made patches lol they didn't even change much if ya think about it, no new animations the characters aren't even going to blink pointles.

Also, the voice actor for James was chosen by Team Silent specifically for his acting ability. If you remove any part of James, you altar the authors' intentions, just as incompetent western developers have been altering Silent Hill by not understanding what it's about.

@Steveo99801 Actually they don't really hate on it, they openly admitted to enjoying Shattered Memories as its own game and said Origins (though hard to play) was well implemented considering it was formatted to play on the PSP. There are no breaths of fresh air because anyone who played the previous entries in the series and actually PAYS attention to the overarching plot would know that Origins, Homecoming and SM are in no way Silent Hill games.

A) VAs for video games do not receive residuals on a standard basis, unless it is actually written into their contract.
B) Honestly, remakes are the best way to preserve games, because really, how long will your original discs truly last? Deterioration is a major problem that the video game industry will face without remakes, especially since they continue to make systems without full backwards compatibility. There WILL be a point where your old consoles stop working, what would you do then?

(not to mention the remake will be widescreen as opposed to the screen being chopped off on both sides). I can't wait for this remake! Honestly, I think EVERY game that ever got an average 9 or higher rating (assuming it is aged as well) should be remade for newer generations.

Guy Cichi and the Konami guys got to contact all actors from SH3 and they signed contracts, pretty much the same situation with SH2.
HOWEVER...
The Konami guys and Guy Cichi were not able to contact Heather Morris.
That is bad indeed, because that means they won't be able to use Heather Morris' voice acting of Heather for the original set of voices.
That means (unless they find her) Heather will have an entirely new voice.

So it seems like most people don't want new voices. Let me just say that I am very pleased about the new voices. I loved Silent Hill 2 in almost every way. The only thing keeping me from getting completely sucked into the world was the fact that the voice acting was atrocious at the least. Don't get me wrong, I'm sorry that Guy isn't getting the money he deserves... but that doesn't mean people shouldn't play a better version of the game.

I don't understand why people shit all over the original voice acting in SH 2. I thought the performances were great. Of course the dialogue may sound a bit awkward - they're in a hell town. James sounds convincingly confused during the entire game, and changes his tone to match the situation (like when he flirts a bit with Maria in the hospital and makes himself sound like a doofus: "Mmm, thanks~").

"He admitted he didn't have a contract," and in doing so he "admitted" that he owned the rights to his performance. In copyright law, no contract = full rights to the performer. If you own the rights to the performance, you can claim anything you want, and it was up to Konami to negotiate. They chose to ignore it and rerecord, and Guy took the high ground and granted the rights so as not to ruin his work.
If he hadn't, he still could have sued, since he would still have owned the work.

What difference does it make? Changes have been made to S.H. 2&3, for better or worse, it doesn't matter. Any true fan of the series is going to buy it, if nothing else, to add to their collection. If konami re-released the original S.H. & Harry was running around in a pink tutu, it wouldn't matter. It's a change, & it adds to the S.H. collection. Look up some of the collections people have, mutiple verions of one game? If nothing else, new cover art. One reason that I'll buy it. :D

So no one was going to buy this game was because of voice acting. I didn't think the new voice actors were that bad, but some fans started acting like cry babies and actually threatened a company to go backrupt and people would loose their jobs, all because the old voice actors originaly weren't going to be in the game! The fans who complained should be ashamed of themselves. Because the old actors are back it'll be the same performance as the second and third game! No difference what so ever!

The fans who complained are a majority of Konami's target audience. The majority of Konami's target audience doesn't like the new voices. This is so there wouldn't be a difference. Would you pay to see the Mona Lisa if someone drew a moustache on it?

@TwinPerfectChannel No. Besides, I don't really care about voice acting seeing how it isn't the important aspect of a video game, gameplay and controls are. The real only way that they could ruin the game is by making it not like the original version at all. They could give pyramid head the voice of eric cartman from south park, or make the nurses break dance, or make the human characters go see a broadway show, that's how they could ruin the game, not voice acting.

@The38DODGE Well, I dont fully agree. considering silent hill games have always had wonky controls and questionable gameplay models- Voice acting , music, art design and sound design are the stars of the experience of the game, which sets silent hill 2 apart from others. definatly not the gameplay... Still, If they can manage to keep the general vibe of the voices it wont make too much a difference. Id still prefer the original 10 fold.

@1xCloudStrifex1 Theres a difference between hard gameplay, and frustrating gameplay. Yet with this flaw, still silent hill for me is a game where gameplay sits a backseat to experiance. And the experience is great.
