  • I guessssssss happy Bob really Happy. inside this beauty...how lucky.

  • Bob Hoover is a genius. I think he could fly the Sabre perfectly even with sticking flap. He's got flying in his blood.

    George "Foxtrot Juliet" from Cz.

  • Bob Hoover flies the with his soul..

  • Miss my dad. Flew a P-51D with the Philippine Air Force, graduated PAFS class 53-B. He so loved aircraft and infected me with that passion even if the only flying I do these days is on commercial jetliners. At least I get lots of that.

  • @nitemagyk thanks for bringing back memories ,,, my dad worked around planes at the worcester mass. airport ,, he introduced me to the dc3 in 1947 ,,, and you know the feeling well of our passion and love of flight ,,

  • flies like a bird that got rid of the cage.

    so beautiful!

  • So graceful, so elegent; piloting as performance art. Amazing.

  • does anyone know what is the soundtrack used on this video?

  • whoever was using the camera should be congratulated ,,,, it was pure lock on

  • @heettreet yup, either that or the gracefull flight it was, like he was safely and slowly testing its wings . then again it could have been the soundtrack too that greatly enhanced the elegance of the flight or was it the flight that enhanced the soundtrack. simply said, it was beautifull I'll say no more.

  • @TyraMead no need to say more ,,, us poor souls have the love of flight ,,, god bless us

  • This video touched me, reminds me of the years as a child when I can always hear those planes and ran out the street to see them...

    Just amazing...

  • @Dongskie2 i thought i was the only one who did that ,,,come to think of it ,,,,i'm retired ,,and i still do ,,,guess we're stuck

  • @heettreet : yes its just amazing, sept me off my feet as a child seeing Sabres and Phantoms from Clark Air Base fly around the area of Nueva Ecija back in the 70s.

I wish those good times for the Philippine Air Force still kept on to this date, the Philippines is a very strong ally of the US, the PI was the only country in Asia to have the first JETS in its Air Force.... I wish it was just as simple as replacing a battery and these would fly again....

  • @Dongskie2 believe it or not ,in some ways , the philippines were closer to our hearts than even great britain ,,maybe because it is so small and did so much for america in wwii , i lived near an airport as well in usa ,, that feeling i know well ,when a jet flew by ,,,, happy times,

  • Mikethebike what a pilot he is my aviation folk hero and guru !

  • That man Bob Hoover really can fly! He's so damn smooth and seemingly effortless... he makes it look easy.

  • great music choice...

  • Hoover wrote in his book that during a similar demo in Japan in an F86 that he was feeling queasy from some bad food and left the canopy open on takeoff...the disturbed airflow over the open canopy caused him to lose lift and he almost hit the ground when he rolled it.

  • Simply amazing.

  • Fine video. It's amazing how many people Mr. Hoover has touched with his flying. So many of us were lucky to see him at an air show, I grew up in the 1950's and back then air shows were a great thing for Dad to take the kids to. We were a family into aviation too. I remember clearly watching him take off in his P-51, immediately going into a barrell roll, tucking in his landing gear as he went inverted. That was maybe 45 years ago. Thanks for posting this.

  • BOB HOOVER The Best pilot!

  • Didn't expect this 1961 footageto be in color. Awesome

Its so nice to see that "PHIL. AIR FORCE" Sabrejet doing stunts!!

  • I met Bob hoover years ago in St .Louis and you have paid him a fine tribute.

    Thanks

  • Makes the aircraft appear to be a living breathing creature, unparalelled grace. Thank you, Mr. Hoover

  • @56eldorado yes ,,,,, if i were the head of the thunderbirds and hoover wanted to fly with us ,,, id say no ,,,,,, why ,,,, everyone of the other pilots could never get in synce

  • The master at work.

  • this is very rare but this song fits the man and video

  • yeah so...

  • Got to see Bob Hoover several times over the years in the P-51 and Shrike Commander. Most amazing was an airshow in the early 80's in Ogden, Utah, the Shrike had broken down. A twin engine P-38 Lightning fighter was there. The owner let Bob fly the P-38 and Bob did the whole engine out energy management Shrike routine in the P-38!!!!! Amazing pilot!!!!!!!

  • now thats one gracefull bird and great pilot!

  • i dont get on you tube that much and just ran into this video of BOB. Because my father took me to an air show in the 60s it brought tears to my eyes! the reason is my father at 99 and a WW2 vet passed away in 2010. You were correct from all who responded to this video that Bob was a true artist of flight in more ways than most will ever be. To see this video brings back so many fond memories. VERY WELL DONE to who did it and thanks.

  • Please provide the composer and title of the music.

  • Some folks are born to fly, I guess.

  • I had the pleasure of watching Mr. Hoover fly numerous aircraft at shows while serving my country in the Air Force in the 60's and at many air shows since, undoubtedly the worlds best pilot, there was no talent equal.

  • Genius at work......... actually no, genius at play.

  • Wings of komet 163, sorry!

  • @zimmermann10 Nein. 262.

  • The photographs will eventually be on my web site and used by the Western Museum of Flight. When the images are on my web site. I will be glad to share the link so that you may view them.

  • I had the pleasure to see, photograph and speak with Mr. Hoover several days ago. While at that event he told a story of this flight. He said the Philippine air force had chosen an aircraft for him to fly - bright and highly polished; during his pre-flight he noticed a sticking flap. He did a pre-flight of another and found the flaps in better working order. This is the aircraft you see flying here. He said a Phillipine general turned nearly white seeing his choice of this "dirty" aircraft.

  • @WHEC35NRDL

    send me your pics!!!

  • @WHEC35NRDL

i would appreciate it if you could tell me if you were the one or Chrigui that did the video on Bob Hoover. This video brought tears to my eyes because of the memories i have involving Mr Hooover. my father at 99.5 passed away 4/25/2010, it was at an airshow in illinois that i saw Bob for the first time. Needless to say i never forgot the name or just how graceful he was with a plane. please add me to your contacts list if you dont mind. thanks Baloobear56.

  • @WHEC35NRDL dude this is so deep, can you rephrase it or direct to the point.

  • @chimoy1 No.

  • Comment removed

  • @WHEC35NRDL oh :(

  • looks easier than my mom backing up a minivan.

  • makes flying look graceful

  • @kramerdc9 yes ,,, flying is the most graceful thing a person can do ,,, if done right ,,,,, no limit to the motion ,,, and bob went beyond what we know as grace ,,he was spiritual in a plane

  • nice music

  • I think he'd of learned to fly straight and level by now!

  • Truely the most natural born pilot of all time, at one with his aircraft it just becomes a part of him, making every manover look so effortless by using the planes own weight and kinetic energy do the work instead of its power.

Just outstanding, thank you for posting this clip of Bob.

  • Yep. That's Bob Hoover flying style. Yikes.

  • Thanks, chriqui. Good stuff, and love the music.

  • eine legende...............

  • I had the rare opportunity to see an F-86 and an F-16 at the same field. It seemed like the F-86 would never get airborne. But still it was impressive and sounded powerful. Then the F-16 took the runway. He didn't seem particularly lined up or anything. But he had no intention of using the runway. It looked like he was taking off sideways on the runway, and he was off just that quick....about 3500 feet. The sound was deafening. I think Mr Hoover would have approved.

  • she was a angel..

  • I've only seen him once, and it was here. Thank you very much for uploading this.

  • This is poetry in flight.

You can tell that Bob is indeed a bird at home in the sky.

    I wish...I wish.

  • Well done! Nice footage and the music is so solemn! I`m a proud Filipino!!!

  • good times

  • Great footage! Philippine air force was once the king of asia`s air space. We will get that title back.. Go Phil. Air Force!!!

  • @sabre1577 I agree Sir...

  • Got back from my Uncle in the Philippines! He was at Clark AFB when this piece of footage was shot. He said he met Bob Hoover-- surprise! He was absolutely delighted about the video. He also said Mr. Hoover had the F86 prepped up in a particular way and that a lot of work had been done before the flight. I do not have details. Hope someone can add to this! Mabuhay Mr. Hoover ( Filipino word for Long Live Mr. Hoover)

  • mabuhay means WELCOME

    not long libe..

    Americans!

so ignorant and think there so cool

    in the philippines

  • @JD55000 Excuse me sir but MABUHAY is long live..

and WELCOME is TULOY PO KAYO in Filipino.

Plus aside from your grammar, there's something wrong with your spelling..

  • bakla!!

  • @JD55000 Speaking for himself... Herself rather... Ignorance is not an excuse...

  • Pure genius. Charles Darwin was right in the evolution of the species. Bird to man. The best. :-)

  • My Uncle used to be a Fighter Pilot with the Philippine Airforce Blue Diamonds - the group that the F86 on this video belonged. My Uncle Trained on P51s before flying the F86. I have to let him see this video! He will cry with joy! Our Two Nations have a Great Friendship. Let us take good care of it!

  • Well said

  • If you could say the Wrights gave us a "paint brush" in 1903, Hoover painted the Mona Lisa with it.

  • @DrMotorDude DAMMITMAN! Those are some beautiful words DrMotorDude! Wonderful and poignant. I have seen this 'Stick and Rudder Man Extraordinaire' in person do things in his beloved Shrike Commander that would curl your hair to observe. A true master of the transient aircraft energy state, as potential energy is converted into the kinetic and back again seemingly effortless in transition. Hoover could do more with 100Ft. of altitude than most others could barely do with 10,000Ft.

  • @DrMotorDude wish i said that ,,,,

  • @heettreet Feel free to use it but not too much...

  • Nice flyin' Bob.... Nice pass...

  • Why am I getting a huge rejected character count when within character limit when posting?Driving me nuts!

  • flpsdwn-Response appreciated. You are not alone.Saw my wife standing with tears running down her face as a Lancaster did a low and dirty pass - full flap, mighty Merlin power. It was the Merlins that got thro' to the most unemotional person on the planet.Regards

  • I love the silhoutte of this plane

  • We made americans proud with this F-86.Pakistan air force kills more the 80 Indian air crafts with F-86 love this aircraft.

  • This must be one of the most beautiful demonstrations of flying suited to a particular aircraft ever. No hot-dogging, no split arseing just pure grace. As for the music, if anyone has ever heard anything better suited to a video on YT then post a comment. After flying for many years I shouldn't feel the way I do right now. It's crazy but tears in my eyes. This guy is simply the greatest. Thanks crigui-

  • Damn, snowgoose. I thought it was only me that got teary-eyed at watching the beauty that is an airplane breaking the bonds of earth and taking to flight - each time like its the first time I've seen it. I am low time private pilot and had to stop while driving when a B17 left an airshow and flew overhead. Everyone else went on looking at vehicles at this car sales lot while I'm sitting there just out of traffic trying to keep the tears in control as they rolled from under my sunglasses.

  • @flapsdwn Iam the same way was in stand still traffic in front of Nashville international. Had to pull into emergency lane and watch an F-18 land flew right over 150ft. Rare to see fighters in Nashville.

  • @flapsdwn welcome to the club ,,,, i was talking to the owner of a small town airport ,an acquaintance of mine ,, i asked ,, do you still look up when a plane goes by? ,, he said ,, yes , can't help it ,, so ,, i guess when you got the bug ,, you got it ,,,, i do ,

  • So true. Bob taught himself to fly by "feeling" the air and the F86 looks enough like a sleek fish swimming through the deep water that the plane becomes an extension of Bob's imagination in this video.

  • Hi badbadm- This is strange. Something had been nagging at me ever since finding this. Had another look at it last night and it all clicked. Have you ever seen good quality film of seals swimming underwater? Even the sweepback of the wings fits. Still can't get over this vid - whoever edited and dubbed the music was (is?) a genius. Pure emotion. People like Bob Hoover should be able to live forever. And about the music -does anyone know its title? seems vaguely familiar as a movie backing.

  • @83snowgoose your not alone pal .

  • I've` never seen an f86 flown like that. Un -real

  • Ive been fortunate enough to have seen Bob Hoover perform several times, in various aircraft types. I even met him and got his autograph at the Reno International Air Races.

Bob was one of the finest military and civiliam pilots America ever produced! Watching command an aircraft you instantly understood that the aircraft was a part of HIM, and he, a part of IT. He made the most difficult maneuvers seem effortless. Great accompanying music, too!

  • I am a very big fan of the Philippine Airforce "blue Diamonds". Thanks for posting this video of an F-86, Bob wa s one of the smoothest pilot, just by watching the video, he did know how to habdle this plane. I am hoping one day the Philippines will re-armed the PAF with superior multirole fighter jets that guard the the Philippine sky's..I am proud to be a filipino. I salute the best filipino pilots and the AFP for maintaining the security even though we have a limited fire power. Thanks.

  • f4fighterpilot - A good aquaintence of Bob. Absolutely the smoothest and finest aerobatic pilot to have ever strapped on a set of wings.

  • I've talked to old chaps who say Alex Henshaw was something to see when demonstrating the Spitfire.

Mr. Hoover was always a joy to watch.

  • Best aerobatics pilot to have ever lived, I wonder if he killed the motors in this one ?=)

  • beautiful!!! its like dancing in the sky

  • F86 Sabre the renowned "Mig Killer" piloted this time by an equally great pilot. Mr. Bob Hoover one word -Wow!

  • Bob Hoover was actually originally the main X-1 pilot. A week or so before the record flight, Bob was called by a fellow (nonjet) pilot who wanted Bob to buzz an airfield for his family (the fellow pilot would take the credit for flying the jet). Bob put on a little airshow for the family, but was removed from the X-1 pilot position as punishment by the USAF. The job went to Yeager.

  • Hoover Fly was one of the greatest pilots ever..

  • Hi name was Bob Hoover, you'r missjudging the title. But i completely agree anyway.

  • yea I realised that after I made the comment, but amazing flying nonetheless

  • Yes, i just get a bit anal at times.... :S....

  • Can i borrow this footage to add it on my tribute video for the Philippine Air Force? Nice video quality, doesn't look like 1961, looks like 1991...

  • Bob Hoover "was" the primary pilot on the X-1 program. Being the man he is, he made good on his word and did a demonstration for a fellow pilot at his wedding. For this he was busted back to chase.

  • Those few who can feel the wind and the machine through their fingertips (and their butts) certainly include Bob Hoover. You know, of course, he was Yeager's backup in 1947...why not the reverse will never be known.

  • love the sabre

  • woW this is way back 1961!! anlupet!! ndi mukang 1961 ung video,,

at that time our airforce is at it's best...=(

  • he is flying a philippine airforce f86! classic!!!

  • So smooth - energy management at it's best

  • best pilot mr.hoover

  • I salute you MR. Hoover!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • No..you are the pathetic low life who does not understand the point of excellence or, for that matter, the respect of it.

  • May he fly in the heavens one wing wo forever. I met Mr. Hoover when I was 7 at EAA rockford and got to listen to his stories many times at EAA Oshkosh. He was a real upright guy, never rude or impatient with us kids when he,d answer our questions and was easily one of the best pilots my dad Kenny Heit(Jurka Fighters) introduced me to at a talk Mr.Hoover was giving. Guys like him inspire new generations of Americans to step up and defend their country with class. Fly the with Angels Mr.Hoover.

  • God Bless Bob Hoover!!!!

  • I had the pleasure of seeing his last shrike performance at Luke Airforce Base Nov of 98 or 99 I believe it was his last or one of the last ones

  • Bob Hoover the first flight control computer absolutley amazing

  • He is amazing.

  • Best pilot ever. He born with wings and loves to fly.

  • F-86 - thoroughbred

  • Aerial Ballet indeed!

  • SUBLIME !!!

  • That was like watching Ali, Pele, Tiger, Elvis, Sugar Ray Robinson, Olivier, Bradman or anyone else that is renowned as the best of the best. No wonder Chuck wanted Bob as his wingman when he broke the sound barrier, why trust your life to anyone, but an equal!

  • What a beautiful bird... with a human soul...

  • This, ladies and gentleman, is the SINTHESYS OF LOVE ...

  • Bob Hoover, Amazing. I remember seeing him with my dad in the early sixties at an open house at Luke AFB west of phoenix doing some flying very similar to this in an F-100 Super Sabre. I later met him in the late '60s at Falcon field in Mesa Az. He told us about old yeller, and gave us a tour. He is truly a great man. Don

  • Once, Bob was testing an F-86 with an experimental fly-by-wire system controlling the elevator. During take-off, he lost elevator control, the aircraft slowly pitched up, and finally lost airspeed. Bob kicked the rudder, made a stall turn and headed down. Fortunately the F-86 slowly pitched up again very close to ground and started a new climb out. After a series of stall turns, Bob managed to bring the F-86 under control, and landed at Muroc dry lake, still without elevator control. What a man!

  • wow great pilot! made it look like ballet on air... too bad we dont have such planes anymore, our phil airforce has only retired F5s and reconditioned Hueys...

  • Hoover is the best pilot EVER!

  • Pure brilliance, a man at the top of his game in any field is a wonderful thing to watch and Bob Hoover is the best there ever was. Any pilot (myself surely included) can learn something from Mr. Hoover, anyone that thinks otherwise is a danger to themselves and others. What a sweet video!

  • How true!

  • BTW: What´s the name of the music? I really like it :)

  • amazing how he makes it look so simple.

    That is true brilliancy

  • Mr. Hoover makes us all look like student pilots. He's truly a gifted and masterful pilot unlike any other. I had the opportunity to meet him on a few occasions. He's also one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet and a fine gentleman.

  • Not quite the full video... they clipped out some starting at the first point of a low 4-point roll pass.

  • great video considering i am from the Philippines! how did you get hold of this classic video?

  • Now you have it. Someone who knows how to make himself the art brush. He makes aluminum dance in such pure artistry.

I love the one gear then the next and add the dinosaur dust and up up up you go.

    Bob you are my hero.

  • Definately the Mutts Nutts!

  • pleaaaaaaaaaaase somebody tell me the name of that piece of music , it is the perfect music for such a graceful and beautiful display of flight

  • That has to be the most graceful aerobatic display I've seen.

  • A great pilot and my mentor.

Chuck Yeager got his seat in history but Bob is the man.

  • he must be a "birdman" to fly like this it's amazing waow

  • Why aren't there any F-15 or F-16 or F/A-18 pilots who have done anything like this? I wish they would.

  • he just knew how to make it look pretty

  • Bob Hoover - more Right Stuff. He knew how pretty the F-86 could look both in the air, and from the ground, while he flew it. He took into consideration. What you're seeing is the result.

  • Arguably the greatest pilot of all time and yet so unbelievably modest.

    READ HIS AUTOBIOGRAPHY

  • already did, best book ever.

  • "Rare" video on youtube... doesn't make sense...

  • GREAT pilot!!! He is like dancing with his plane.

  • He's actually making the airplane dance..

  • more like making love to it, and the airplane back to him! great flying

  • Thanks Mr. Hoover.

  • The greatest airshow pilot who ever flew!!!!

It has been said that an airplane would not dare do anything that Bob Hoover didn't want it to do !!!! His engine out performance in the Shrike Commander is still, to this day, unmatched !!!!!!!

  • Philippine Air Force was one of the best equipped air forces in asia before. but now, we're the weakest.

  • One of the weakest together with Cambodia and Laos

  • yeah right. dude but cambodia had several migs. they are strong for they buy their hardware at russia. laos is weak but not cambodia!!

  • The right pilot in the right plane. If there has ever been a better combination, I cannot imagine what it could be. BH gets my vote for the best pilot of all time.

  • OMG! He made a 360 flip,He scores He wins!.

  • whats the name of that first song

  • bob hoover dances with his plane. it's amazing.

  • yes! this is the plane f my LOLO/GRANDFATHER! GODSPEED BOB HOOVER! I LIVE IN THE PHILIPPINES BTW. NAKATIRA AKO SA PINAS

  • What an incredible man!

  • Wow, the master flying the classic Sabre, just awesome!

  • Fabulous Mr. Hoover, just fabulous! Thank you!

  • Da Man! I don't need to be the stinkin first man to break the sound barrier. In your face Yeager.

  • The F-86 broke the Sound Barrier well before the X-1 'historic' record! The Sabre was top secret at that time and USA wasn't going to declare this great fighter to the Soviets.

  • thanks Mr. Hoover!!!!!!!!!!

    Marco - Brasil

  • Mr. Hoover is THE pilot. thanks for the nice show.

    Marco - Brazil
