You cant say you where kidnapped, problem was you made the driver feel sexy so he kindly stopped at his home for a short sex break with his wife, that is why he was so happy when you said one hour slapping and clapping his hands, the only problem was he charged you for it. lol
But a guy comes in with 4 guys around him carrying firearms when I was almost finished. I got a bit nervous since they were the only other occupants but they did not do anything radical. So, I finished my duck without problems. It was a remarkable experience though. Sorry I took 3 posts to respond.
In Tijuana when I was in the Marines, I went to a restaurant the taxi driver recommended to me when I said I wanted some really good food and a nice environment. Well, the restaurant he took me to had a huge iron gate and then a long, long drive way. I go into the restaurant that was super fancy, with all kinds of exquiste decorations and I was the only one there. So, a bit wierd. I then eat which the food was awesome. But a guy comes in with 4 guys around him carrying firearms
I think I would have done the same. I would have felt if I left the taxi when the driver was gone I could either be lost or the police could pick me up for trying to dodge the fare (even though that wouldn't have been my intent).
LMAO at the sign on the window that you were sitting right next to!! it says, please close the door slowly!! heheh, btw, if u want a good tour of morocco, just wait till i get there from NY on my vacations and ill be happy to show u around!!
The SAME thing happened to me in Atlanta! We got in a cab and we told him we wanted to go to the Atlanta Zoo. Now, we had THOUGHT he knew where he was going but the hotel had said it was only about 15 minutes away and we had been driving for a LONG time. Finally he pulled into some random street and pulled out a GPS! He had NO idea where we where and had to use freaking Google Maps! So we just told him to drive us back to the hotel which took AN HOUR... we got RAPED in the charge! Like $50!
In your other video when you was in Morocco i noticed you was being very loud, rude and yet clueless with the Moroccan taxi driver. Its the loudness, obscenity, rudeness, arrogance (expecting everything to be your way) and outwardness that Americans seem to posess abroad that makes them stand out as the worst tourists and makes the world HATE them.
I seriously followed this group of guys who I didn't understand, and who didn't understand me. Scared out of my mind, but with no better solution. And they got me a taxi and took me to the airport so I could finally call my friend and tell her where I was.
I was on a bus tour around Europe for 10 days. And our last stop before the airport to go home was Paris. And somehow I managed to lose the whole group and my friends who I was with. And so I was walking around, completely lost. Nearly in tears because I had an hour to find the group or be left behind. And this group of guys start to talk to me. And I didn't know a word of French and just got out the guide for the tour I was on and gave it to someone.
so, they smash the beautiful BMW... argue with the truck driver... and then left me there, in the middle of the highway, just before sunset... :S had to walk a lot after that....
so, we didnt had any comun language, but they were could... they gave me a redbull and some snacks and they were listing to very loud music..... but i realized that they were in some kind of drug (allready in the car) and they were speeding the whole way (200km/h) and french roads aint that good, so a little truck tried to change lines with out any warning, just change, the kids reacted late, but still honk the horn, hit the breaks but didnt got out of the way, neither us or the truck...
but the most crazy and scary story i have, was hitchhiking to Paris... i was just outside Brussels and go a ride to a little town called illie or something like that.... there were two guys around 19years old, or maybe younger... they were dress in sport ware and they were driving a nice BMW (dont remember which), they didnt look like the typical french, they were more like the bad young people in this movie called Gomorra.....
my cousin was in cambodia and they were only told to take certain taxi services but she was in a hurry with her friend to get somewhere so they took one of the services that were considered iffy and the guy drove them way out and they thought by then he was doing something sketchy so at one point they ran out of the taxi and just went to the nearest door...luckily the guy who answered the door was nice and let them in and helped them...
@aassaa99 You're a fucking idiot and a racist motherfucker ! Do some researchs before talking shit ! am Moroccan , and i 'am a big fan of Phil da franco show , and Shaytards ... and oh ! Turn off Fox news and try to travel and be open minded !!! The world is beautiful ,
@die4race alright i might have over exaggerated caz Morocco is actually pretty peace full from the rest of the middle east, but still no one should feel safe in a medille eastern country.. u live there so ure used to it by Americans should watch their back the whole time
i guess u can say half of the world is raciest caz most of them dont trust Muslims
@aassaa99 You know that Islam is a huge religion right and why people have the lack of trust is because people kinda protects them self behind their religion while doing bad stuff but the religion never indicates that you should do bad things that
@aassaa99 I am aware, I have family in Egypt. It is still Africa and not the middle east. Canada and the US are very close and very similar but that doesn't mean they are the same thing.
@aassaa99 FUCK U, U PEICE OF SHIT! First of all nothing in the muslim religion is about treating women less than men and they dislike americans and jews cause they invade their countries for oil and money. If some did that to america we would go crazy
@yasemonkey The Jews were living thousands of years living in North Africa before the Arabs came warring out of Arabia. What money? America and ALLIES are in Iraq trying to stabilise the country after the demise of Saddam, same in Afghanistan who should never given Osama shelter...
LOL, I visit Algeria lot. Its right next to Morocco and has the same culture. The same thing happened to me and my buddies in a taxi. The driver gets out, goes into a restaurant for 30 min, and a man with a mental disability walks up and peers into the car... But hey, things got better, the driver returns with food and drink for us and we get back on the road! :)
I was in Greece once, and I was in a city connected to Athens. I was waiting for the bus, and suddenly this old American couple, who just stepped out of a taxi, asked me where the airport of Athens was. It was like 1 hour away from where we were at that moment. The asshole of a taxi driver told them that THAT was the airport, just so he didn't have to go ''all the way'' to the airport, and wait in line to pick up other people.
It's too easy for taxi drivers to scam tourists...
@AwesomeSRS When my husband and I were in Athens on our second visit to Greece, our fare was about 90+ Drachmas from the bus station to the Plaka. The driver asked for 300 Drachmas.......my husband threw 100 at him. There was a Greek in the taxi who knew the driver was trying to rip us off. Never try and rip my husband off....
If the Cab driver got out of the car and didn't tell me what was going on I think I would have freaked and tried to find another cab after about 5 minutes.
Isnt really a horror story, but I was in Belfast, Ireland for a class and me and some friends were in the city for the day. I decided to go back to the Manor earlier than the others so i didnt have to pay for dinner. So I had to wait at a public transit bus to get home, except i didnt know the stop. I actually got off the bus, but the driver noticed i had no idea what to do, so he got me back on and a nice older lady was able to figure out when to get off. Almost lost in a city with no phone
why would you want to go to these places? why would you leave phil? why would you not have a map so you know where you are? why dont you have a gps? why don't you have a knife? why don't you have a translator device? why are you doing this? why are you divorcing american culture? what will you really gain from this? location is only a figment of time-space and matters very little. why go to a country that has been around for thousands of years longer than the usa yet has not succeeded?
I go to Turkey often. Nothing ever went wrong, and I was never afraid of going there. One year, my family and I decided to stay on the top story of a two story apartment-like house. Since there was no air conditioning, we left all the doors and windows open. Of course, a robber thought that stealing a ladder from the back of the house and using it to climb on onto the balcony, steal our bags and rip them open on the lawn right next to the house and steal all our money was the perfect idea.
If you go to Mexico try to blend in as much as you can and do major research on the places your going in Mexico! In south America it gets better more cultural but still be careful!
Looking back it seems like an overreaction but I can totally see why you were anxious, the entire set of incidents justs sounds so weird and I guess the whole procedure is so unknown to us. Anyways, it's good to hear that you were safe and that the village was cool. :) Where are you going next?
On a city on my own, after walking around a while I tried to go back to my hotel nd got lost. It started getting darker and there wasn't much people around so I see a man and ask him for directions and he says he was going that way, and he will walk with me but he was pointing to somewhere even darker! So I walk the other way and try to find better lighting and finally get a cab back, it was very scary because I had no battery on my phone and I seriously thought the guy was gonna kill me or sth
and if it was me, I would say to the cab driver "I wanna go to Oulja" which is the name of the pottery village, and concerning the 100 Dirhams, in the end it's just $12, how much would it cost in the U.S....!! :p
I went on my high school's Europe trip, it was our very last night, we were in Spain. There was this massive gay pride parade going on so the subway was packed, and when I tried to get on I couldn't find a place and the doors started closing so I almost got left, but I looked over and our tour guide was pulling the doors back open so I ran over to his car and slide on, it was epic, but I was so scared lol.
Speaking from a tourist country Taxi drivers LOVE to rip off foreigners. The assumption is that you have money so they do what they can do make money off you!
Linz I love you, been watching your videos for years! But you only got ripped off in a taxi, it happens everywhere ! SOME Taxi drivers will take you the longest route if they know you dont know the area well..especially in a poorer country. You must have expected this. Its not a big deal. You weren't "going to die"
@natiily i wouldve been even more terrified in that situation! she has the right to make a pretty big deal out of it since he brought her to some unknown town and then left the car for a while without telling them what was going on..
@kattlinyakno The whole country is pretty much unknown to her. Thats the point of traveling - exploring the unknown. The taxi driver, as she said was probably just talking to a friend or getting some food....isnt more safe when your taxi driver leaves the car, IF your scared of the taxi driver :p And since they barely can communicate he probably thought it would quicker to just leave instead of trying to explain?? Just saying... scary things could of happened.
@natiily i cant tell if ur agreeing with me or not..o_o what i was saying was its scary situation and coulda been a big deal, i think she has the right to be a bit uneasy about it
Lindsay. Flight is a very good option and your positive attitude towarsd people and experiences stands you in good stead. BUT! I am old martial arts teacher: tae kwon do, hop ki do. You MUST also be prepared to fight when your path of flight is blocked. A 4" pocket knife will work perfectly to accomplish this. Slash the throat (stand back the blood spurts out!). Just plain slash up and down back and forth (messy again but very effective) I doubt you will need this but be safe be able to fight!
Do you realize what it takes to become a taxi driver... YEARS of study and meticulous memorization of the streets, traffic patterns and landmarks not to mention tens of thousands of start-up capital and a vehicle. Driving is this man's CAREER and he has literally every reason NOT to harm any of you.
I mean its the middle of the day... in a market district (yes that was a market you passed, not a front for slavery...), you're in a party of three... tbh your friend peter bragiel would be ashamed.
I know exactly what you mean, Linz. My mom wouldn't let some friends and I take a bus downtown to a mall because there are potentially dangerous people. I'm 16, and the bus ride is about 30 mins. And it drops us off literally right outside the mall. We cross a street, and we're in the doors.
When traveling you always need to be aware of your surroundings and other people near you. You still can have a great time. The world a has a lot to offer but so does the US.
I prob would have done the same thing as you, but I'd be ready to punch the guy if he tires something. Also this reminds me of when we were in Europe, and we rode in an "un-marked" taxi. The guy at the Hotel kept telling us not to, but we rode with him anyway and it was fine.
I'm sorry. I didn't mean to sound disparaging with my last comment Linz. But I did in fact really enjoy your video. Great story, however unfortunate the situation.. Great video at that :) I enjoy your travel stories and tips. Thanks for the videos :)
About 30 years ago my wife and I went to Istambul.. we went to the top of the Sheradan hotel where they had an American type bar,, We had some drinks and about midnight we decided to walk back to the ship we had docked in port.. As we left the hotel the Army and Police arrive and stormed in with machine guns.. We continued to walk on. The next morning the paper said the mayor and 50 others were killed by terrorist rebels in the next tower or the hotel. How close to terrorist death is close?
You would fetch about 25,000 euros and you would never see an American again.. You don't know fortunate you are..... It isn't sex slavery.. Someone would purchase you... Your female, blond and worth less than a camel ....
@LinzLoves except you did none of these and only thought (and commented) of them after the fact. i am not looking to dis you Linz. I think you are great. I don't care if your subscribers rag on me, they have no effect. I do think you made bad decisions in this event and preparing for being in this country on your own. secondly, maybe your relationship is not as serious as I presumed. going away for a weekend or a week or so is a "healthy break" going away for a summer is not.
@brockXroberts yo im not "ragging" on you but she went to morroco right after she went to france, she had no time to really get exactly what she needed, also theres always going to be errors in traveling, but so what thats the fun of it, and also she didnt leave phil, and their not having a break, Linz did this to help out a poverty stricken nation, and phil cant always travel with Linz he has a lot of things to do AKA his job, , Linz likes to travel but sometimes it cant fit phils schedule!
One time on the subway returning home(Long Island) from Brooklyn, my cousin & I saw a mariachi band, my cousin started dancing with one of the guys. (Yeah...this really happened. I got it on video.) Once the mariachi guys left we we're kind of frazzled & missed the announcement that the subway wasn't stopping at our stop. So we had to get off in some super sketchy area we didn't know & we went to a gas station to ask where the train station was. We got home about 3 hours later.
We went to Paris with my family a few years back, and my mom really wanted to go to the Eiffel Tower during the evening/night, so we went to have a late dinner and then probably around 11, 12, went to the Eiffel Tower. On our way back down, the elevator gets stuck and we waited there for probably close to two hours, getting back to our hotel around 3.
I dont think its a case of being afraid of the world, its just that there are a lot of messed up people out there. Especially being a girl, i think travelling is great as long as you have a guy with you.
When i went to India with my family, we went on a cross country trip in a mini bus, and at one check point, an old man, FRAIL looking old man asked for a ride. Our driver said it was a private vehicle, and told him no. He said okay, and went away, and we drove along to the next check point on the road, about 20 mins away. when we got there, the officer told us that someone was sitting on the roof of the bus, and we FLIPPED out. that old man had climbed the bus' back ladder and sat there. 20 mins
omg i was in a similar situation at the airport! it was late at night and there were like no cabs or anyone there no staff anything and this dude offers me and my mom his service or whatever and he's like yeah we're this taxi company etc (his id thingy looked like someone made it on microsoft word xD) and we got in and he starts driving throught the weirdest places in the city and we didnt know where were and i swear i was like "yup we're gonna get raped" but fortunetaly that didn't happen...
I once traveled across Europe alone at the age of 16 to meet some friends in different countries. My parents of course were scared shitless but I had planned everything carefully. During the ten days nothing too severe went wrong aside from the tube shutting down in London and me passing out in a bar I Slovakia but fortunately I had my friends to help me. It can be scary to get out of a plane or a train or a metro in a place you've never been before but I'm glad I didn't let that stop me.
Last year, in my first year of sixth form, I went on a school trip to the World War 1 Battlefields in Northern France & Belgium; I'd been on a similar trip a couple of years earlier, so many of the places we'd been to were familiar. We were in a little town called Albert & one of the younger girls had a middle aged man come up to her and ask her back to his house so he could take pictures of her. We made excuses & moved away. Our teachers flipped their shit with this guy when they came back!
One time my friend and I went to Paris, France- I told my parents her parents would be there the whole time. That was a little lie. So this guy was helping us bring our bags in. We started talking and he invited us to this party. But they broke into the house and kidnapped us! Thank god my dad was on the phone to help me. So long story short, my dad ended up saving me and kicking tons and tons of ass to get me out of the sex slave thing but my friend died of a heroin overdose.
i hate that the douchebag made you feel unsafe. I can understand, but then again, there is more chance for something bad to happen to me, a moroccan girl than you. the general moroccan population is very careful not to mess with tourists, cause the ramifications are very very severe. it's part of moroccan policy to be severe on crime committed against foreigners in an effort to encourage returning tourists. tourism is the main revenue of morocco, so tourists feeling safe is an imperative.
" I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for ransom, I can tell you I don't have money. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills; skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you let my daughter go now, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you!"
Hi Linz, have had friends who have gone to LA and NY and ended up in the wrong end of town and felt the same way you did in that village. So it is not only exotic places that can feel threatening when you are not used to the surroundings.
i think parents have a lot to do with putting fear in their kids, for example i was meant to work at a Take That gig next month, but my parents said they would rather pay me to not go and are forcing me to stay at home because they don't like the area, and that's just in England, god know what they would say if it was anywhere else in the world.
How is this a kidnapping? This is more like he simply forgot where you were going over a miscommunication and then wanted to get more money from you, because you couldn't explain yourself. Also, obviously your "instincts" don't work if you thought that a cheerful looking taxi cab driver, who wants to make someone money, most likely to feed his starving family, is trying to kidnap you. If you go anywhere else, never rely on your "instincts" again, you might kill someone asked you the time.
@brockXroberts why leave a negative comment? why not embrace linzeys hobbys and interest? why be an asshole? why talk in questions? why not regular sentences? why put down other countries besides america? why not support other nations? oh thats right, your retarded.
@brockXroberts she didnt leave phil dumb ass she was travelling and I see that u dont really get out of the house much, if you actually think travelling and helping out different countries in need is so stupid, then ur just ignorant
i agree with everything you said. im 20 and live in california and my parents HATE the idea of me traveling. i tell my mother that she is afraid of the world all the time! parents of our generation are so paranoid! mine wouldnt even let me play in my front yard without someone watching me. ridiculous.
I would have been really scared and yelled for him to come back and explain where he was going. But in the first place I would have made damn sure he understood where I wanted to go
yeah i have heard that americans are afraid to travel outside america to europe, im english so maybe its because its not as big a deal going to the different countries in europe because they're pretty close but yeah, one time i was in turkey and met this man and his son the man was originally turkish but lived in america with his american wife daughter and son, but the wife and daughter hadn't come on the holiday with them as they were afraid of coming to turkey
My parents went to Europe yrs ago. They met another couple in a country. They told my parents they were on a train with 2other ppl who are brothers. The train went through a country where you have to bribe the custom. The brothers read in the guide you don't have to pay as much, so they argued with the officer. Then the officer put them into jail! They stayed there for a night, luckily they let the couple bailed them out the next day.
Then my parents met the brothers in another country!
I had something like that aswell, in marocco aswell. We had a flight delay so we missed our arranged cab. It was the middle of the night and we had to take a grand taxi to our hotel in rabat. So we didnt know where we were going, the guy didnt even spoke french... That whas kinda creepy aswell.
I'd give him the cash and leave. I googled it, 50 dirham=$6.26 US dollars... Idk, i'm super wary of going somewhere that doesn't speak english for pretty much this exact reason, it can be scary..
I went to Malawi, Africa with a group of young people, and we walked into a village filled with kids and people, and then all the kids started running away and hiding behind us. We were like, what the heck!? All of a sudden these guys in black body paint start running at us with machetes in their hands. Luckily nobody was hurt but that was fricken scary!
My mom last night just tried to scary me into not traveling. She thinks Cause i'm too nice and a pretty little blonde girl i'll be kidnapped, and sold into sex trafficking. lol so she told me she wants me microchipped or a gps put into my body just incase i'm kidnapped. I'm 20 years old… lol i love her.
When I first got to Ghana and we got into the taxi, it was scary because the car would stall and they had to push it to get it started again. They drive really fast over there, and we got stopped and ticketed for having too many people in the car. You have to pay the fine right there and then to the officer. And this guy at the airport kept insisting I give him a $50 tip for carrying my bags. It was all a bit unnerving! But I would go again if I could.
My friend was in Morocco just this past year. She was biking in the outskirts of some city and was stopped by the police. she didn't have any money with her, which you are suppose to carry at all times, so she couldn't really 'pay them off' to leave her alone. so she pretended that she didn't speak the language and she overheard the police saying some pretty nasty stuff about her. she began to cry and one of them realized and told her to leave. scary stuff tho!
I was in Vietnam with a friend but we did separate things. I got in a taxi (they rig the metres) and went about 20m and the metre jumped by 15 dollars! So I screamed at him to let me out and told him I wasn't paying he tried to lock the doors but I jumped out at a major intersection and ran. It was scary. But usually Vietnam is safe by yourself. Shame it happened on our last day. We'd been there fine for a month.
you want a free rid. everywhere in the word you must pay. first the driver doesnt speak your luanguage and it s not his problem. why dont ask some body to write for you the address in arabic or frensh so it wil be easy for him to understand you. you american you think just when you blabla with you mouth you ae speaking others luanguage

my cousin was in cambodia and they were only told to take certain taxi services but she was in a hurry with her friend to get somewhere so they took one of the services that were considered iffy and the guy drove them way out and they thought by then he was doing something sketchy so at one point they ran out of the taxi and just went to the nearest door...luckily the guy who answered the door was nice and let them in and helped them...

AwesomeSRS 8 months ago
@AwesomeSRS When my husband and I were in Athens on our second visit to Greece, our fare was about 90+ Drachmas from the bus station to the Plaka. The driver asked for 300 Drachmas.......my husband threw 100 at him. There was a Greek in the taxi who knew the driver was trying to rip us off. Never try and rip my husband off....

Almost lost in a city with no phone

why would you want to go to these places? why would you leave phil? why would you not have a map so you know where you are? why dont you have a gps? why don't you have a knife? why don't you have a translator device? why are you doing this? why are you divorcing american culture? what will you really gain from this? location is only a figment of time-space and matters very little. why go to a country that has been around for thousands of years longer than the usa yet has not succeeded?
brockXroberts 9 months ago
I go to Turkey often. Nothing ever went wrong, and I was never afraid of going there. One year, my family and I decided to stay on the top story of a two story apartment-like house. Since there was no air conditioning, we left all the doors and windows open. Of course, a robber thought that stealing a ladder from the back of the house and using it to climb on onto the balcony, steal our bags and rip them open on the lawn right next to the house and steal all our money was the perfect idea.

It started getting darker and there wasn't much people around so I see a man and ask him for directions and he says he was going that way, and he will walk with me but he was pointing to somewhere even darker! Linz I love you, been watching your videos for years! But you only got ripped off in a taxi, it happens everywhere ! natiily 9 months ago

Once the mariachi guys left we we're kind of frazzled & missed the announcement that the subway wasn't stopping at our stop.

We were in a little town called Albert & one of the younger girls had a middle aged man come up to her and ask her back to his house so he could take pictures of her. We made excuses & moved away. Our teachers flipped their shit with this guy when they came back!

The train went through a country where you have to bribe the custom. The brothers read in the guide you don't have to pay as much, so they argued with the officer. Then the officer put them into jail! They stayed there for a night, luckily they let the couple bailed them out the next day.
