Hey I got a question. Does it cost alot to fill up this tanker? I was thinking of buying one and taking me and my buddies out fishing, but I dont want to pay too much on fuel. Oh and 1 more. Is it hard to put it in the water? Like if I was to have a dingy like this in my driveway and just take it to the public boat ramp on weekends rather than leaving it in the water?
Love walking the tunnels in weather like this and watching the ship flex and twist with the waves...any one whos ever sailed the North Atlantic or the Great Lakes knows what I'm talking about!!... Ride 'em cowboys...never been seasick a day in my life...but I have been scared shitless.
haha yeah i agree with molinobeer, your ship? sike your maybe like that chef there or something like that. I guess is all good to call it your ship though, i say my school when is not really my school but yeah. you made it sound like you meant it:P
no! they are fresh water supplyers i mean bunkers. if you doing this job! you can see them on istanbul road. i know those are not big vessel but at result they are sailing too.
great video I`m a commercial pilot and the weather is getting worst these days for flying too - the CB`s are bigger each day and it`s force is tremendous for the planes but in our cases...we have more velocity to escape to deviate or something like that...you must go straight ahead on the waves ?
that's odd. instructors told us that wave heights are basically the same in high seas, you should've recorded all the other high waves that went over the deck
Huge ship and waves, it looks! I am curious to know, for that ship (or a ship as much similar to that one as possible to be taken as example), how long/wide it is and especially how high is the deck from the sea surface in normal cruising condition (same or less load), how often and what are the severe weather conditions refraining a ship like that from sailing (only hurricanes?). I am no connessur at all, so if anyone has a minute to help.. . I can't make out the schale of what I see here
That is really impressive how that vessel is taking those seas. I work on tankers and we were rolling like a pig in seas like that, you know anything about B class Product carriers?
I have hours of video just like this one from the decks of the Oversea's Alaska(razor blades now) and Ohio. I sailed with the SIU out of Seattle for many years! Thanks for the flashbacks!
I worked for ATC for a few minutes! (Ha-Ha!) This is one of the Catalina Class Tankers right? Junea, Boston, Washington, (Which One?) I saw this video and had an immeadiate flashback. Bet I lived on this one. One of the SIU boys out of Frisco - Super Dave!
They ride well, even in ballast. With the raised forecastle they cut through the seas OK. The problem in Gulf of Alaska is when you start to "submarine". Basically the deck disappears and all you see is the Kingpost, and the Foremast, and thats it. When she bucks hard, you know your digging in. These babies warp like a tuning fork. Flexing is a good thing. Breaking is a bad thing.
thanks for your reply, but that 'submarine' sounds very ominous..is that what happened to edmund fitzgerald?...which looks a lot like the ship the video?
The Edmund Fitzgerald was a single hull ore carrier on the great lakes. There is no definative answer to the cause of the accident, but what id beleived to have happened is that she bottomed out and was holed when passing a shallow shoal. She was taking on water unknown to the crew. When a large wave passed, she just swamped and kept going down. It is figured that she sank in fifteen seconds. The watch never even got off a mayday.
Yeah, I'm a little supriced that I can't find the video of the sinking here. I saw it a few months ago. I was shocked that it can actually go down that fast. One wave covering the boat - gone!

It is mostly the pitching that is causing sea sickeness not the rolling. Anyway, in this video I don't see too much rolling or pitching. It is a big, loaded tanker - you need a hurricane to make life on it uncomfortable.

Actually tankers suffer because their cargo is liquid oil.. as the ship begins to roll the oil sloshes about inside and makes it worse.
