From what I understand, Feilds firing was NOT Carey's idea, something both Fields and Carey have confirmed.  They are still close friends and Feilds WILL BE the new announcer on Drew Carey's Improv-A-Rama on GSN later this Spring.

If there's one thing that I like about Drew Carrey as host of Price, it's that he doesn't make it all about himself when it comes to his interaction with the contestants, and especially Rich Fields! I mean, when did Bob ever say "Good Morning, Johnny," "Good morning, Rod," or "Good morning, Rich."? Bob was a great host, no denying that, but he could be a real jerk sometimes.

I'm just glad that Rich is involved in some of the showcase sketches now. When he first got the job, his on-camera time seemed to be restricted because of a policy that FremantleMedia had regarding announcers on camera. I guess they finally decided to cut him a little slack.

If it was a FremantleMedia policy, then Rich wouldn't appear on camera. FremantleMedia still owns TPIR, yet Rich is on camera now. Doesn't this prove Fremantle wasn't involved in the decision to not show announcers?

Well, I once read in my local TV listings about that policy about why we never saw Rod Roddy on camera anymore when he was still announcer. I don't think we did for the last couple of years he was alive. I just read that it was a policy about announcers listed on the company's website.

Nor did we see Rich the first 3-4 years he was around.  It was only on the rare occasion he was shown. Besides that, I think it was only at the ending of each show that we saw him.

The reason I've heard is because Bob wanted face time for the announcer restricted, nearly obsolete. Now that Bob is gone, that is no longer in effect.

I think it might be necessary. Since Drew has taken over, I've noticed the contestants seem to have a hard time hearing the showcase prizes and end up asking Rich to repeat them anyways. This might prevent that.

Sometimes I get the impression that Drew wants to know rather than him hearing it from the contestant that he/she couldn't hear what the prize was. Also, it is usually only with cars and not other prizes.
