who can do a 5 stroke roll better than him or an exercise from george lawrence stones's book or any rudiment or any time signature or any phrasing better?- probably noone!
@Gandalfstyle Unless 'Gandalfstyle' is an alias for Elvin Jones or Tony Williams, I can pretty safely say that Steve Smith's little toe is better at playing jazz than you are.
PLEASE HELP. I just bought a Q3. Could someone private message me the best audio setting(s) highly recommended for band practice sessions and live gigs. Harder bands, metal, hard hitting drums, etc. I'm trying to record on the audio/video setting. What would be best for mic gain L/H/Auto, low-cut on/off. Does placement in the room matter. I've seen videos of the Q3 next to drums and the audio doesn't pop, peak, etc. Basically, what are the overall best settings combined. Thanks in advance.
I allways found it a bit interesting how Steve Perry was actually renown for his drum work with his band before Journey...but was put in front...this does say a lot for Smith.
Question. Is the Q3 able to record a direct feed and room sound at the same time? How does one go about recording drums to pre-recorded track as Steve does with brushes? I would want pre-recorded tracks coming to my headphones and into the Q3 simultaneously.
@webstercat Just take your song you want to play to come from mp3 player/laptop to your headphones, and then take some sort of audio editor (pro tools, ado be audition, audacity, you name it) and put the song in there. You just have to time the song to go along with your playings. I have done my recordings (@ my channel) with sucky video from digital camera (not a videotaper), Zoom H2n /w snare- and bassmic and Adobe Audition 1.5, and I doub't one couldn't do the same with Q3.
@Evansmustard the zoom Q3 was meant to be the camcorder for musical purposes. it's like you have your very own camera that can record a live band performance. so yes, it's excellent for recording band practice.
nice house ;) ;)

@somnabulist07 Why don't you just experience with the thing?
Put it right next to the drums with L-gain and see what happens.
Placement in the room matters of course, and also the size of the room.
If you have a lot of hard walls, dampen them with rugs/clothes/towels/acoustic foam or whatever. This makes up a lot.

Is it true that he stated that the only way he would consider returning to Journey, is if Steve Perry was fronting the band again.
