  • who can do a 5 stroke roll better than him or an exercise from george lawrence stones's book or any rudiment or any time signature or any phrasing better?- probably noone!

  • Billy Meir's PLeadian drummer has nothin on the steve! Steve is the percussdrummermaster!

  • he's like having a kit in his hallway/kitchen/bedroom/livingroom but i was wandering 'bout the bathroom :D

  • Is there level control on the Q3?

  • His secret ???? - He practices in his kitchen !!!

  • Steve Smith. Most versatile drummer EVER!! Fact.

  • What recording device is built into the Q3, is it the H1, H2 or H4n?

  • Love the Steve plays in to the cymbal at 1: 50 is ....Nice

And it must be cold in his kitchen ha ha ha

  • I'd like having the same kits !

  • i like 6:17 slow bonham feel tight!!!!

  • Genius. kitchen and light scene at 8:36 - master of the universe :) great drumming.

  • Steve just keeps getting better and better.....just when I think this is IT he's at his best he turns around and blows me away again.

  • Steve ust keeps getting better and better.....just when I think this is IT he's at his best he turns around and blows me away again.

  • god i wish i could play jazz, it would help my metal drumming so much

  • @crackhead007 Playing jazz helps all playing.

  • Steve's either got a kitchen in his practice room or his practice room is the kitchen!

  • @davshaw5 hahaha

  • I would have thought that a musician of Steve's calibre could afford a better kitchen!

  • STEVE YOU NEED PROFFESSIONAL HELP, YOU'RE ADDICTED TO DRUMMING!!

  • @Gandalfstyle ah go away, steve smith is the best thing to happen to jazz since sliced bread..wait..

  • @Gandalfstyle Unless 'Gandalfstyle' is an alias for Elvin Jones or Tony Williams, I can pretty safely say that Steve Smith's little toe is better at playing jazz than you are.

  • @jdjc79 you are an ingnorant, what a pitty.

  • @jdjc79 you are an ignorant, what a pitty.

  • I think his style is now just like the great 50's jazz drummers (Philly, Stan Levey, etc.).

  • shmoregishborg of styles

  • 6:28, Matt Greiner style... that is if you were killing a china instead of chilling on the ride haha \m/

  • PLEASE HELP. I just bought a Q3. Could someone private message me the best audio setting(s) highly recommended for band practice sessions and live gigs. Harder bands, metal, hard hitting drums, etc. I'm trying to record on the audio/video setting. What would be best for mic gain L/H/Auto, low-cut on/off. Does placement in the room matter. I've seen videos of the Q3 next to drums and the audio doesn't pop, peak, etc. Basically, what are the overall best settings combined. Thanks in advance.

  • @somnabulist07 Why don't you just experience with the thing?

Put it right next to the drums with L-gain and see what happens.

Placement in the room matters of course, and also the size of the room.

If you have a lot of hard walls, dampen them with rugs/clothes/towels/acoustic foam or whatever. This makes up a lot.

  • lovely end!

  • wow my hero drums in the friggin kitchen my wife would kill me lol!!!

  • sooo smooth jeeez

  • Wife's at the mall right?

  • Is it true that he stated that the only way he would consider returning to Journey, is if Steve Perry was fronting the band again.

  • @BaDeeRich That would be a dream come true for many!

  • Great chops and I really like the low light clip at the end with the illuminated tips! Disney-like!

  • I allways found it a bit interesting how Steve Perry was actually renown for his drum work with his band before Journey...but was put in front...this does say a lot for Smith.

  • Agreed....fantastic stuff here Steve.....ok....back to practicin'.... : )

  • :-)

  • the MASTER

  • He is simple .. a real .. teacher .. never boring ... always creative ..

On of the best, without doubt

  • Question. Is the Q3 able to record a direct feed and room sound at the same time? How does one go about recording drums to pre-recorded track as Steve does with brushes? I would want pre-recorded tracks coming to my headphones and into the Q3 simultaneously.

    Thanks!

  • @webstercat Just take your song you want to play to come from mp3 player/laptop to your headphones, and then take some sort of audio editor (pro tools, ado be audition, audacity, you name it) and put the song in there. You just have to time the song to go along with your playings. I have done my recordings (@ my channel) with sucky video from digital camera (not a videotaper), Zoom H2n /w snare- and bassmic and Adobe Audition 1.5, and I doub't one couldn't do the same with Q3.

  • Not the luxury accommodations I'd envisioned for you Steve, lol.

One of my all time favorite drummers straight up.

  • @MuscleBound46 ...right ? .... then again I think Steve is from the Boston area . Kitchens like this are common in the old houses in that area .

  • OMG I love you Steve and was looking FRANTICALLY for you all over NAMM at the Starbucks Acoustic Lounge that was never found! :(

  • very smooth!

  • Not a bad way to wait for the bread to rise.

  • I cant find it on amazon, howmuch is it, im on a 200dollar budget lol

  • @Evansmustard

    $250

  • is this good for recording band practice?

  • @Evansmustard the zoom Q3 was meant to be the camcorder for musical purposes. it's like you have your very own camera that can record a live band performance. so yes, it's excellent for recording band practice.
