Dude, I found the possible problem, had the same problem, I was scared if the problem were in the player device.
What did I removed the HD insert the device into the PC and formatted it, then updated with the firmeware. and it worked.

UPDATE ...i have recently noticed lately that battlefield 3 servers have been putting me on east coast ones and before i was on south servers...since i swithced it back i've had no issues....

I showed this video to GameStop and they gave me a new copy of the game. This has fixed the problem. Too bad the creators of the game can't do that!

So I fixed it. I deleted all the data and reinstalled the update. Working again.
Had to re-enter the online pass too though.
