@HomeGrownAlice Just watched the movie, it's not Hitler (or Hynkel), he gets mistaken for him cause he looks just like him. Chaplin played both characters in the movie, thought I should tell you guys, didn't see anyone who did it before and I think it's kinda important. I agree, it's a great speech and I love Thrice and this song especially :)
N~I~C~E Vid yo…I dig thrice but in all actuality this video rocks and has a clear message…(besides the Obama thing..but maybe that was sarcasm, yes?) Great Job! ..and I never congratulate people on youtube ..but this deserves it!
I'm lost on why such a meaningful video would ruin it self with signs like "Obama is our savior" inside of it. Other than that bullshit its a pretty damn good song.
I've had to create a YT profile just so that I could comment on this video. Over the years I've watched thousands of videos. Aside from the fact that I happen to Love Thrice, Dustin and the boys very much, this has to be the most amazing homemade video I've ever seen. I love it so much that I watched/listened to it at least a dozen times in the past few days and I've also shared it on my FB account as well. Well done darling. :) It's just so perfect for the song.
@DiscoRByrno i know what youre saying and i agree with you but thats not the real dustin kensrue(you might already know that) because the only video that guy has is a video of a cat and a stuffed elephant. but thanks for disproving another poser
Amazing homemade video of a great Thrice song......Is it just me but in the end Chaplin portrays his own character realizing his contradicting statement when he yells from the people to "Unite"....maybe I'm looking into it too much...
Chaplin looks alot like Jon Stewart with a mustache, and the sentiments are similar. I could definitely see Stewart making this speech. Just brilliant with the song.
Human beings ARE like that, it is our natural state of being. Of course if you look as as simply animals, that is not true, but I think we are smart enough to be more than that. No reason to have your religion created by man poison all your thoughts Dustin...
@OMFGallusernamesgone Really? And what poison is this that has such a positive message and impact? You are one of those who just attack and poison conversation with your derogatory comments towards faith. Tell me, what good do you do with this? Seriously. Give me one bit of positive impact that this kind of attitude towards other people has...
@Dustinkensrue I've noticed thrice less and less on the radio. Do you think making music of substance has limited your exposure through the main stream media?
@StefBlackLesPaul religion is for the strong willed in america, and who aren't afraid of persecution. People nowadays say it's all about self expression, but you bring up Jesus and people tear you apart. Thank god there's still people like Dustin.
I think this has become my favorite vid, awesome job! The message(s) conveyed here are fluid to me. Words and music may broadcast such a different meaning to each of us, but as long the meaning hits home to each person, then it has done it's purpose.. and we can gather from it what we may. Solid video, on all counts !!
Fantastic video, love the song I think the video fits the speech, "treat you like cattle, cannon fodder.." and progress for progress's sake are very pertinent and relevant in todays world. I believe if more decisions were made on science progress as well as love and empathy the world would be a better place, rather than this black white divide of science vs religion.
its amazing how the right words can live and carry great meaning and weight for all generations and how meaning is never lost as long as the meaning is for the good of all mankind.
This video is wonderfull.... So emotionnal... The song and the speech were almost done to be united x) No seriously what a good job, Thank you to have made this.
i got so emotional on the ending of charle chaplins speech long live him thrice is awesome and so talented everyone should pray at there feeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeettttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt
Their are few bands today who write about social issues and human morality. Thrice is one of those bands and I'm glad you made this vid, even though it has some holes. This may allow these youtubers to experience enlightenment.
really enjoyed the video. but i'm still a bit bothered by "obama is our only savior". Regardless of whether or not you like what he's doing and how it's going to affect us in years to come, i think pinning one man as the savior is kind of the opposite of what the rest of the video is about. Im sure you intended it to be ironic, or maybe for us to think before ever putting one man so high up, but i just think it's a bit misleading. still a great video though.
In my opinion, how the speech and the meaning of the song kind of split in two, especially at the end is what creates a brainstorm after watching it. This video creates something pretty unique, it makes you think of where did utopian speech, -any speech- really all of the great modern views, leed us to after all these years. We end at the same spot. We make a circle, and again, after another great tragedies, we go back to the roots to seek reason. For a short time, most of us.
I have to say that I think the clips chosen don't necessarily go against the meaning of the song. While the meaning is subjective, I think that the clips speak more of the unity of man allowing us to rid the world of what ails us, namely greed and the other things mentioned in the song. To me, the song speaks more of the danger of discussion without action. Simply talking and not doing can happen in anything from tap dance theorists to aeronautical engineers.
Ah what a mighty epic scene with mighty epic words paired up with one of thrices greatest songs if there is such at thing. This was one of Meher Baba's favorite movies. He said it was the only movie he would like to see 7 times, seven being Gods number. Meher Baba was a genuine mystic of the highest of caliber.
To the members of thrice - thank you. Your music is great solace during these times.
Ah what a mighty epic scene with mighty epic words. This was one of Meher Baba's favorite movies. He said it was the only movie he would like to see 7 times, seven being Gods number. Meher Baba was a genuine mystic of the highest of caliber.
Great video. Thrice is so amazing. This is the kind of song and video that makes me want to make a positive difference in the world. The entire Beggars album is full of inspirational lyrics and this song is a great example.
To human is to hate. Unfortunately, there is no way around it.
Our core emotion is jealousy, which breeds hatred, which breeds death.
Either way, this is my new favorite song. I've been listening to it constantly since I put this CD on my Evo and FINALLY bought a good headset. It's a beautiful song.
@Dustinkensrue - On the contrary, I see the message of the speech that Science and Progress are the very things that decayed mankind. "More than machinery, we need humanity." Of course technology can fall under this category, so I believe that the speech is perfectly viable.
Other than that, if you ARE the real Dustin, I salute to you for all of the wonderful things that you've done for this music industry.
i'll tell you what. i've seen a lot of people make homemade music videos to a lot of good music, but this is the first one i've seen that doesn't suck. for that i commend you
Very creative juxtaposition. Unfortunately the speech is at complete odds with the message of the song as it talks of Science and Progress saving us, when the song specifically warns against the lure of progress in the name of progress. A worldview needs a foundation for making such claims, one that is stronger than "human beings are like that." Obviously, they are not all like that, which is why we have problems. A naturalistic worldview cannot support such lofty goals.
@Dustinkensrue he talks about "thinking 2 much & feeling 2 little" exactly what "your" song echos in the "we talk 2 much in circles" line. he talks about kindness & how we needn't fear because the earth can provide 4 all of us The speech is from charlie chaplan's "the Great Dictator" it was all about making fun of hitler...basically 2 his face since it was made in 1940
"dont give yourselves to these... machine men with machine hearts" It all fits perfectly w/ the song. Job well done 2 MRALX85
@Dustinkensrue I'm not so sure it is as odds. The speech isn't really about progress, it is the reversal. It is stating not necessarily that we should build machines... instead that we shouldn't be machines. In this they are complimentary.
@Dustinkensrue I agree that not all humans are like that. However, I don't believe that science and progress are always "progress in the name of progress." Science is just a tool to help us better understand world. That is all. And it is only as good as the people doing the research. Right now, the people who have the money to conduct science don't have the well being of humanity in mind, they have money in mind.
@Dustinkensrue, I love your music, but I think that is bunch of crap. I hope you can tell that same message with straight face to the billion or so people still living in poverty and disease around the world. I wonder how many Les Paul's and Telecasters are available in Asia/Africa and the rest of the undeveloped world? Cali is great, isn't it?
@Dustinkensrue I love Thrice. Really the new album Major/Minor is amazing. But i was wonderring : Why are the americans so attached to the religion ? In Europe we were so attached many many many years a go bu now, we really don't take an interest for it. Are the atheist hated in the USA ? What is the subject Thrice is talking about in the new song "Yellow belly" ? Please respond, it's really stressing me all that stuff.
