well known or not... i didn't know him at all until i watched sopranos. this is not meant to be one of those "thumbs up if you saw it there" posts, it's just nice to find such wonderful music in the place where you least expect it ;)

That is all well in good but it is safe to safe that most in music circles have no clue about it. There is always going to be a segment that knows and loves anything but in terms of this album, it is one that was missed and left behind for dead, which is a total shame. Just because "hipsters" like it, hardly is a reason tosay that people know about it. The fact that it was unavailable for so many years tells me all I need to know

If you look at a few of the Little Steven vids on youtube, you hear one thing over and over and that is how good the Men Without Women album is. If you are a music fan, track a copy of the album down, it is everything music is meant to be. The brutal honesty and passion combined with one of the great band lineups of all time make it one of the greatest unknown album in music history. It is that good, it is almost beyond belief that almost 30 years later it still hasn't gotten its due.

@ck1usa "men without women" is so well regarded in "hipster" circles that it can't be thought of as "unknown." merely the fact that is shares the same title with a legendary collection of ernest hemingway short stories ensures it at least a footnote in pop culture history.

For those who know it though, it is pure, raw greatness :) A lot of people may know he made this album, but it was so tough to find for so many years, a lot of folks missed out. Thanks to youtube for helping to bring it back
