  • The news piece has already run, and that was the only real purpose of the demo.

The Express-News Newspaper has plenty of Medeco locks, ALL of what I can easily defeat in front of the camera.

I also showed how the electronic access control, a wiegand device, can be easily defeated.

Again, this was done ONLY for the media exposure, task completed.

  • Strictly out of curiosity, how do you get to the tail piece? Is the flaw in the key way after it is widened, exposing the tail piece? I am a learning locksmith and I love the debates around these subjects. I am always trying to learn...

  • Dropinggates gets the kewpie doll!

Yes, the tailpiece is moved, and it is not just Medeco that has this flaw.

I mentioned this to the guy at Fullers lock & key in San Antonio who simply walked away.

In front of over a dozen reporters I did this very stunt, not explaining exactly how of course, and had a lot of fun.

Yes, they had me do other locks, had a lot of fun!

Sometimes you can pass through the one tailpiece and work the other, or the lock itself.

Between this and bumping I can pop 99%

  • @Arabhacks Please come on down the Fuller's Alamo Safe and Lock again, we would love to see you do this. Medeco does not have a free spinning tail piece on their deadbolt....

  • Don't you have to drill through the back of the cylinder or punch it out, then stick the flat head in and access the deadbolt cam? Tmi? Whoops!

  • THIS IS BULLSHIT! DONT BELIEVE IT.

  • Medeco's deadbolts (single or double) have a plate that covers the back of the moving part of the cylinder, keeping the cylinder from popping out on its own. You do not have access at all to get in back and activate the latch on its own.

  • Not Shown: A dudes hand on the back spinning the thumb turn.

  • Wow,I did not know there were so many stupid locksmiths out there.

I have been locksmithing since 1977.As of today thats over 33 years.

This video is very true.If you guys are knocking this, then you are really not a locksmith.

Maybe a key cutter or a handyman. But do not put yourselfes in the same catagory as us real locksmiths that know how to defeat these locks.

Watch the video again. Do you see the plug spin?, I don't.

He is bypassing the plug and going right to the bolt.

    This is TRUE.

  • @chuckthelocksmith Oh yeah and you’re a true locksmith with your potty mouth. What have you been doing in the past 33 years? Are you one of those true locksmiths that belong to the drill& destroy bunch? You a true locksmith didn’t even notice that he was making factually incorrect statements? Rim cylinders have no cams they have a tail piece and even that, how would you see the cam or tail piece moving, it is inside of the lock. You know now days video editing is pretty high tech.

  • @Katzlerlocks Sigh, no time for total tards that do not want to learn.

  • Something skinks here, I have 30 years in the trade. This will be forwarded to a Medeco factory rep for a real answer.

  • Comment removed

  • Hi I'm also a locksmith for 30 years that can not be done when you stick in the screw driver and turn the cyclinder tell me how in the world did that last 3or 4 pins reach the shear line. also how did they turn right/center/or left. can't be done is you can do a video puting in the pins and then doing it that would inpress me. other wise it's a fake.

  • Come on may, pay attention... did the cylinder turn... no...

Its a BYPASS.. and its not fake

  • Well since these medeco locks are all so easily bypassed, what do you all think of BEST SFIC's? I use them since I was lucky and able to get them at like 1/3 the cost of a shitty joke qwikset lock setup. I am already aware that they can be bumped. Just overall, what do you all think of them?

  • Actually there is a flaw with this cylinder that involves widening the cylinder keyway just a slight amount and inserting a....oops...Sorry can't tell you but lets just leave it at it can be done, There isn't someone on the other side and no-one emptied the pins out, Take another look, The cylinder cam doesn't even turn, Marc Tobias discovered the flaw and informed medeco and they didn't want to know about it, Marc also picked and bumped the "impossible" M3 and still medeco didn't want to know.

  • lmao ...garbage...total garbage...a screwdriver???seriously....why would medeco even make a lock if it can be by-passed so easily???...you and the guy that made this video are full of shit

  • Medeco didn't even know until it was exposed by marc and if you were a locksmith like I AM you would know to respect him as he wrote the locksmiths bible that even the FBI, CIA and NSA use, He was even employed by these agencies for covert ops, Just because YOU work in a locksmiths shop doesn't make you a locksmith, Your just a keycutter that farts higher than his own ass, Or You are just pissed off that you spent over $100 on a lock that can be bypasses with a screwdriver.

  • hey guy go fuck yourself....this video is bullshit in and of itself....if he this dude wrote the locksmiths "bible"...he should widen his knowledge and study a little videography ...this video is so chopped up and pieced together.......the screwdriver looks like it barely touches the lock, he's covering the damn thing with his fingers....the damn cylinder doesnt even turn......1. i've been a LOCKSMITH for five years. 2. i wouldnt buy medeco with YOUR MONEY 3. YOU'RE AN ASSHOLE..HAVE A NICE DAY!!

  • If You ARE a Locksmith You would have heard of Marc and his knowledge of Security and Marc didn't edit this footage he asked for it to be edited so the "General Public" doesn't get to know how to bypass this lock.

    1. I've been a locksmith for 14 years

    2. I wouldn't buy a Medeco with my money either (I'd buy an Abloy or Evva MCS)

    3. Your the Asshole and I did have a nice day, Thanks.

Just to note, I wouldn't buy any american doorlock, Just because it's american, Doesn't mean it's the best.

  • this one had a key hole on both side and he used a key on the other side he lied

  • @KitCloudkickerUK: Medeco Deadbolts do not have free spinning tail pieces their for you can not do this with a screw driver.

  • @TxAgg10 in the older Deadbolts they did before Marc informed them of the problem, Then Medeco started to redesign it and put them out without even having a recall of all the older models.

  • and by the way the lock deffinately has pins in it. You can here the pins release when he pulls the key out.

  • Such bullshit!! anyone that knows about locks can tell that you have someone behind there turning the lock. If your going to try to ruin a lock companies reputation, then show how easy it is to open a masterlock with two paperclips. Medeco is hands down one of the best deadbolts available for personal security.

  • Easier and faster way to open locks and doors by using bump keys, go to superbumpkeys. com for more info.

  • thats the most fake thing ive ever seen. the keyway wasnt even spinning. my guess is someone on the other side

  • The pin go to fly! :)

  • No the picking bumping that comes before that was cut!!! That is Marc Tobias the medeco master =)

  • hahahahaha This is ridiculous! I'm a locksmith, I install these all the time. This is how they come from the factory, empty of pins! They don't even come with keys. A locksmith cuts the keys, and pins up the lock to match the keys. This deadbolt has no pins in it. You could stick anything in that lock and turn it. It would be the same as the lock on your front door. Dump all the pins and springs, put it back together, and that is exactly what will happen.

  • no no no no no they do come unpinned but listen you can clearly hear the pins when he pulls out the key

  • Sure, but the camera cuts before he uses the screw driver! Do you really think Medeco is that stupid, where they'd make a deadbolt that could be opened like that?! Come on, it's obviously a scam, and people like you believe this garbage. You can't open ANY deadbolt this way. Not even a $10 bottom of the barrel deadbolt.

  • and the cylinder doesn't move, so it has nothing to do with the pin. There's probably someone turning it on the other side. That's my guess.

  • totally agree...i'm a locksmith from des moines iowa...the douche that made the video is full of shit

  • Jesus ... someone is flipping the lock's thumbturn from the inside ... loser.

  • That is Cool

  • Actually he's doing something good. Medeco locks are the most expensive high-quality locks and hes telling people not to buy them because they suck

  • yes thay do. but not as much as layeret masters thay all have the default buypass.

  • jeez i c u leaving comments like this on a lot of vid's y dnt u jus buy a shotgun n hav some peace of mind

  • Security is a state of mind.

  • thats marc tobias the man knows his medecos the people doubting this are not well informed

  • the screw driver slides through the plug and out the back and he operates the mechanical tailpiece. this is possible because the tailpiece is lazy, that means it can turn on it's own without the plug spinning. The reason for this is the thumb turn on the inside of the door needs to be able to operate the locking bolt using the same tailpiece. So when the thumb-turn on the inside of the turn turns, the plug on the outside doesn't. Does that make sense to all the people saying this is fake?

  • @dropingatesThe lazy-cam has nothing to do with the thumb-turn! Without it you would not be able to pull the key out after locking the door unless you unlock the door again. The lazy cam action permits the key to be turned back to 12’clock position thus you can retract the key and the door stays locked.Even if you put a screw driver into the key way how can you possible turn the tail piece? It is like saying that you can turn a screw with a flat headscrewdriver that has no slot on its head.

  • back in the 70's Kwikset had this problem with the 660 and 880 series deadbolts. One could bypass the lock cylinder and rotate the tailpiece with a hooked wire. Their solution was to install small thin metal disks between the cylinder plug and the tailpiece, thus preventing the hooked wire from entering the hollow tailpiece. Some of their locks still use that piece. Perhaps that is what we are seeing here?

  • what a phony...

  • that is one crazy cut key :O wudnt wana try pick that

  • I'm no locksmith, but I know I don't like Medeco. And that's been before I saw this. Now a days, there is no totally secure lock. All Medeco is good for is key control. They're about as brilliant as Best 7-pin ICs. Which I don't think Best is worth s#!t either.

  • BULLSHIT

    medeco isnt defeated that easy.

lets see how and what you did then ill decide.

  • if you only knew how wrong you are. Do some googling for "marc tobias" and "medeco".

  • i looked him. i got him messing up a stupid ipod lock. and a book. i wanna see some videos of him doing this things or a link to something. but so far. this guy is nothing big. sorry man.

  • i suggest you dig just a tad deeper. You missed the part where he completely destroyed the security of Medeco from a large handful of attack vectors (picking, bumping, destructive entry, key control, decoding, bypassing, etc..) You also missed the part about his book (LSS) being the best reference on the subject of locks and their compromise for the last several decades.

  • Marc Weber Tobias is a GOD he is taken very very seriously by the industry and lockpickers alike.

I personaly am not convinced by this video but I do know that despite Medeco's inovation they do have some huge shortcomings.

Did I mention Tobias is a genius.

  • Dude, the guy writes lock-smithing textbooks FFS. LOL XD

  • LMFAO all that hoo-haa touting Medeco this and Medeco that...... I'm cool with Schlage and a Remington 870 12 gauge.

  • Another bullshit video, this lock was a double cylinder dead bolt being operated by the other side. END OF STORY!

  • This has something to do with disabling the slider pin first.

  • I did that to my nabers lock he shit his pance. then call medeco and was pissed that a expensive lock was that ez to open.

  • This was posted on clearstar w while ago, the full thing involves drilling through the keyway and out the back of the lock.

  • alright....here we go destroy the illusion:

he drills (requires that it be rather prefect so if he did it without removing from door kudos)

a hole in the back of the lock and turns the latch...

    thats it the end...

medeco has fixed it...i've talked to them...

seriously i'm a locksmith at a major seller of medeco locks and when i heard of this i had to ask

  • Now Now, guys.,,, calm down.

yes jkthecjer I know who marc tobias is. I am well aware of him and his work he has done. I have seem many of his deminstrations. however... man this video is so freaking hard for me to believe.. I hate to doubt marc.. I would give 100 bucks to see the tip of that tool he is using.. ... and after i seem that.. I would know for sure whats going on.. "fake" or not.. but as it stands.. I am going to have to keep my doubts

  • The tip of the tool is a normal flat-head screwdriver I believe (this information is public). He does something to the cylinder before using the screwdriver that is not shown. The tool shown is not the trick, its just the tool used after the technique is applied. This is definitely considered a bypass and not a picking technique, hence the plug not turning.

  • zomg faek!@

  • I'm not going to cry fake, but this video is edited beyond usefulness. Might as well have posted 28 seconds of the engaget link.

  • The video is not meant to be instructional. It simply demonstrates that the vulnerability exists. It was likely posted to youtube to increase awareness and pressure Medeco into fixing the problem sooner rather than later.

  • To all the folks shouting "fake":

This is not just some random guy, this is Marc Tobias. Do a quick google and you'll find out very quickly who he is. This is not a faked video, but he did edit it considerably for disclosure purposes. Medeco has been notified and is currently fixing the problem.

  • First off this video is crap i could do this same stuff just have someone stand on the other side.. and trust me when someone like Slimpickingsooooo steps in and puts you on the spot you should shut the hells up cause.. he knows what he is talking about a lot more then you do... i hate fake vids

  • The Only way this lock Can open with out the cylinder being turned by key or tension tool after picked is to turn the thumb turning on the inside of the door. I researched it. This video Is Fake.

Its not even that he removed the pins.. beacuse the cylinder is not turning.

he is claming to bypass everything.. twist pins...side bar....slider bar... everything.. He is ether full of shit..or..well he's just full of this

    {I have heared this voice before.. but cant place it... }

  • The voice is Marc Tobias, and he's no joke. He has another vid on here on Medeco M3 side bar bypass.

Just Google his name "marc tobias", or "try toool . us"

  • I forgot you can also check out his site "security . org" , also see "toool . us" and "Def Con . org"

  • bruno.. whats up brotha..

I new it.. marc tobias!! thats it i knew i recognized the voice..

dude.. I wounld never doubt marc.. but man from everything I have found this can not happen..

  • Ok I have watched this several times.. this videos is not right. It must be a fake. the videos is very cut up and poorly peaced back together. I am A 100% believe some one is on the other side of the door unlocking and locking the lock. there is NO way to bypass the m3 like this. there is nothing on the inside that can be moved to retract the bolt, It CAN be picked and the slider can be bypassed but to open this lock the cylinder Must Turn.

  • uhmm. this video could be a fake. but i am not sure, Like someone said b4...if this came out of Defcon consider it real. I see sighs pointing in both directions, if you notice when he uses the screw dirver he's not actually turning the cylinder but bypassing the cylinder {hes no picking it} but....everyone who had seen the insides know that a deadbolt can not be bypassed in this manner.

  • Impossible. all the pins have obviously been removed, or somebody on the other side of the door. There is no picking action on that screwdriver, no tension wrench, if there were any pins in it all of them would have raised and blocked the sheer line. poor fake.

  • buddy, read the link in the description. medeco has confirmed the flaw and they are working to fix it. get with it

  • There is more to it then just using the screwdriver to turn the plug as your video clearly shows, you left the most important things out about picking it because you dont know about them, it is impossible to just slide a screwdriver into the lock and turn the plug without doing the other steps which you left out because you dont know how, Im going on 20 years as a locksmith and without even knowing you I do know this...you are faking it. period.

  • i'm not faking much really. this video is from defcon, they purposefully left out specific tactics that make this possible so the flaw is not exploited on a wide scale. if you could read the link posted above, as i mentioned before, you would realize that i do not believe this is just as simple as turning a screwdriver.

and because you tell me you have 20 years locksmith experience i really trust you now.

  • @russinhesperia your a fucking melt mate. if your such a lock smith wizard then why do you feel the need to lord it over someone that posted a video on lock picking. It is the equivalent of a professional football player mugging off some kids playing in a park with jumpers for goalposts.

  • @krayyy Ahhhhhh, I know this is 3 years old of a post, but still, as long as the video is out there, it merits critiquing. It would have been nice if you EXPLAINED what you were doing other than show a screwdriver in the keyhole. so, you tell people to "get with it".....ahhhh, me thinks you need to get with it.

  • @krayyy And you’re the one who opened the eyes of the engineers at Medeco. That is why you’re sitting in your little room and making you tube videos. What amazes me the most is how many of you don’t even know simple things like rim-cylinders have no cams but a tail piece. One end of d tail piece is flat preventing even the tiniest object to be put thru the keyway. How come we did not see what kind of screwdriver was inserted? How come Idon’t ever meet experts like you on the job?

  • I personally think all locks are in a way supseptable to one form of bypassing or another....good job.

  • If this is from Defcon this is very serious. Medeco has been informed.

  • Give me a break! He removed all of the pins and stuck a screwdriver in, or course it opened...

  • They plug doesn't rotate!!!!!

  • he's bypassing the plug completely dood

  • I know that was a reply to some other comment it landed in the wrong place.

  • I'm saying this opening technique bypasses the plug completely, which is why you don't see it rotating.

  • I was saying I know why the plug doesn't turn I was telling someone else that the plug doesn't turn and that he was bypassing the whole keyway side of the lock.
