the call wasn't because it was a lane violation it was because the ball has to touch the rim on a miss. but yes normally the shooter can not enter the lane until the ball touches the rim whereas the guys in the blocks can enter as soon as the ball is in the air. in this instance even if Shaq hadn't entered the lane it would have still been a violation as the ball didn't touch the rim on the miss.

no...if you look closely at the score...at the bottom of the screen...the score for the east didn't increase...the reason it didn't count was because it's a lane violation...you have 2 stay behind the free throw line when making a free throw... the ref blow the whistle a couple times to indicate that...so not it did not count...

it doesn't matter if you are taking a foul shot you...the person shooting the ball NOT the defender is supposed to stay behind the foul line... if your foot is on the line they will must likely call it and the point won't count...the defenders if it's 2 foul shots have to stay in their lane while the foul shot is taken...on the second shot yes you can move out of your lane and either rebound the ball... the only reason the ball didn't touch the rim is because Shaq threw the ball to the backboard
