  • skating never changes, just tricks change

  • 90's skating were the best days of my life, glad I lived that scene...good times :)

  • 540 bs ollie north?

  • The same guy from Flogging Molly.

  • Rodney Mullen invented shit, Matt Hensley made it look good, then ever since then, there's been Koston. Basically.

  • I wish Hstreet would release a clean copy of this, but I think it doesn't exist, because I just cannot find one!!

This is still one of the most classic skate vids of all time!!

  • love this section........ btw you are all crazay, tommy t bone

  • There was a time when you and all your high school sk8 friends would watch this video b4 hitting the streets like a pack of wild dogs. It was a hot summer day. Before you got a real job. Before you got your heart broke for the 1st time. Before 9/11. Long live the golden summer sk8 days!

  • Love this Vid. I I'm trying to pawn my HStreet Deck if somebody's interested, let me know.

  • God this video makes me wanna skate more than a mike mo part. The entire video is just having fun skating instead of all the "get sponsored" hype. Gotta love it.

  • che ricordi.... un pezzo di storia. Meraviglia!

  • @basehead617 I kinda remember that but of course after natas

  • The ollie over the fire hydrant at 2:07 is right down the street from my house

  • @lakers24545 yeah vista CA bro!!!

  • This is the guy who inspired us all when we were kids back in the day, this is pretty much when streetskatin' started 2 get real fun for us, I love this part, it's a major part of my childhood and love 4 skateboarding, Hensley ruled da game back then, can't get enough of the 540 ollie in the miniramp!

  • if im not mistaken, Matt Hensley had the highest ollies ever recorded.. at least at that point in time.. i remember some still shots of him getting some ludicrous air..

  • Love matt hensleys 1 footed 360 ollies

  • this dude is progressive, more than half of his tricks was way ahead of time!

  • right on aktodd - for more on the subject of the history of skating and why it outranks the categorization of "sport", read a great new book, The Skateboarding Art. Available on Lulu and Amazon.

  • Matt Hensley is a Legend!!!!!!

  • at 230 its the same line from shackle me not

  • love that he plays in Flogging Molly nowdays. He an be so proud of his life!

  • this is horrible

i dont even care if its the 90s

how the hell is this guy "god"

  • @Aktodd95 i dont see you getting skater of the year go watch your pussy mullen videos

  • @Aktodd95 you have to understand the context of the video, if it wasn't for people like matt hensley, skating as it is now wouln't exist, and for all the technical ability of most of the modern era pros, they will never ever come close to pushing skateboarding forward the same way as the pioneers of street skating in the late 80s and early 90s.

It may look dated to you but guys like this turned the idea of what was possible on a skateboard on its head.

    so just keep trolling.

  • @theghostwiththemost And besides that, the skating was like poetry and art, everyone had a different flavor and inspired a different emotion.

  • @Aktodd95 not to mention most of that footage if not all of it was filmed in vista, ca which is blessed with "the best climate in the world" but also had little to no smooth pavement or concrete in the god forsaken town. at least not in the mid to late 80's. and he still somehow managed to invent street skating.

    he is definitely god.

other legends who shredded vista(at one time or another):

    danny way

    tony hawk

    mario rubalcaba

    frank hirata

    alfonso rawls

  • @Aktodd95 Yur fukin switch shit wouldnt be around without matt asshole

  • @Aktodd95 if you think he sucks so much, then i would like to see you cabalero over a picnic table, some thing i don't think you got the balls for.

  • @Aktodd95 Listen, while he may not be god, He was having fun instead of trying to skate for status. Everyone should take a lesson from the old-school skating and just have fun doing it instead of bitching about "BOLTS" and what not.

  • gotta love the thumbs up at the end

  • the early 1990's were the mother fucking DAYS!...good god, those who had the cameras where the kings...don't think that this is the 'best' though..I had many many friends kill this video with their own for this time period..yup.

  • The 90s were the best

  • This guy is like kinned to me!!! haha

  • I used to have this video on VHS! I must have watched it 300 times.

  • old school yeahhh!

  • nice video

  • Who is better on a skateboard? Hensley or God?

    Trick question, Hensley is God!

  • flogging molly player, pro skater, and this is themed to OpIve. . . I'mma explode.

  • ????? sounds like operation ivy

  • @Donald666 it is operation ivy.

  • Wow! What a trip back to memory lane. A great time in skating. Matt was a god to us back then! Thanks for this post!

  • people gotta start skating like the 90s again. Now its all about tricks but back then it was about SKATING!

  • @xHoboMcGeex

yupppp they didnt even do tricks then

  • @xHoboMcGeex thats what we all do where i live, we dont even care about our skill we just go skate anywhere we can ride

  • HENSLEY RULES!!!

  • Any collectors here?

i have a Matt Hensley's Mini H ST - deck..does anyone have a clue how much is it worth..?

  • depends what condition its in.

let me know if your looking to sell

  • yep..i thought i could sell it. The graphic has few scratches on it, and theres a little screw holes because of tail quard that was in it.But mainly it has no damage at all.

  • worth a shit load, hold on to that. i saw beat up original H-streets on ebay for 200+ and mints for 1000+

  • @ruga666 dont tell me this. my mom threw away 3 of my hensley decks (mini + king size + bird king size) a few years back. i made the mistake of leaving them in the parents garage. *cry*

  • I know Matt Hensleys son lol he goes to HTM

  • Isn't he the accordion player for Flogging Molly? o.O

  • shredder

  • 2:02 did he a pop-shuvit 540?

  • A 540 ollie

  • haha schweet!

    my last name's Hensley

    XD

  • What is the location of the street skating part? and the "tunnel of love"?

  • Airwalk shoes how funny!

  • 500 points if you came name the dude with dreads skating with matt? Im guessing the answer will come from someone 30 or older!

  • mario rubalcaba.

    you're welcome.

  • Very good...you get the 500 pts. Can I ask your age?

  • its mario rubalcaba alva skater

  • mario rubalcaba also played a mean set of hardcore drums in emo hardcore bands such as Clikitat Ikatowi (which I saw at bottom of the hill) and some others...

  • Damn! I didn't know that Mario Rubalcaba was playing with Clikatat Ikatowi. I saw them in 95 or 96. Thanks for the info and greetings from Switzerland.

  • yeah, and before that this seminal hardcore band '411' no relation to the skate videos...saw clikitat at 'bottom of the hill' in San francisco about that time..a cool combo, I loved emo hardcore type bands and skating...there ya' go..

  • I remember the LP of '411'. It had some Vans shoes on it. One evening, I was skating in Berkeley when I met Rob of 'Portrais of Past' and some weeks later I was hanging out at Kent Mc Clard's (Ebullition) house in Isla Vista. The Powell Warehouse was still open. The more I think about it, I know that I hit the best time and year to visit the US for my 6 months visit. Best time of my life! Skateboarding + Emo Core (it was real Emo in the mid 90's) + meeting great friends/bands = Awesomeness! :-)

  • Yeah he is in Flogging Molly and Duane Peters Gunfight's new video.

    Fucking Awesome Song!

  • yeah he plays the accordion

  • not dead-hes in Flogging Molly

  • did he die? Just wondering...not trying to be annoying

  • Matt was an innovater back then.... He's the cat that made us all want a big ol' nose on our boards...matter of fact boards came w/ extra holes for the front truck to make the nose bigger...LOL Thanks Matt ur the bomb!

  • i wander if this Matt hensley is kin to me being hensleys my last name to

  • lets see you pull off a huge backside one foot

  • thought he was good? go fuck jerk off to your new baker you little 13 year old little prick

  • i thought he was good

  • he fuckin is dude

what the fucks wrong with you?

  • his skating is great for the early 80s 90s

  • You should have your board takin away!

  • Hell yea!!!! skatin to operation ivy

  • yea this wasnt his first part i think shackle me not was

  • "first part"

meaning he had 2 parts in the video...

  • great video, the good old days

  • this was such a dope video then. it had like 20 operation ivy songs on it.

  • OPERATION IVY RULES ! :D:

  • what ever happened to high tops in skating?

  • i think the low tops were more "stylish".

i remember buying the airwalk 540's and chopping them down. then spray painting them!

    lol.

  • when i was skating high tops were in. last skated in 89. i alwasy thought they protected your ankles better too. sure some kids wore low tops, but it was mostly high tops for the "cool" kids who really skated a lot. but now the low tops have a lot more padding and thicker soles than they used to. there's also tons more brands of skating shoes than there were back then.

  • so many skate parks now too. must be one in just about every town these days. skate parks were few and far between when i was skating. makes me jealous.

  • yeah there ween't too many. we used to drive a couple of hours just to go to parks like the Playground

  • yep..spray them..tape them, shoegue them^^.. buy new socks..o0

  • shoe goo and duct tape!

    a skaters best friends!!! LOL

  • ^^ still got my visoin prototype ... this shoe is art with all that tape and glue....o0

  • those shoes were like bricks! lol. can't believe you still got em. i don't even have any boards from then anymore.

  • The 6 footer Matt Hensley rides starting at about 1:40 was my friend's ramp in Greeley, CO. Matt came to town for a demo and my friend asked if he wanted to ride his ramp. Matt agreed and the rest of the team came over and rode it. The ramp was eventually eaten by snow.

  • He plays with flogging molly now?

  • Sure he does ...

  • yes he plays accordion for them

  • the original with the acker dacker soundtrack makes it way better

  • I was 12 when this came out. great video. ground breaking for the time. hard to imagine with in 1 year skateboarding would change more than it ever has or ever will. this is 91. Plan B - questionable came out in 92.

  • Skateboarding never changes. skateboarders do.

  • yeeeeeah Matt!

  • HENSLEY = LEGEND

  • whats the second song??

  • so what was the name of the clothing company he had in the early 90's ????

  • Innes clothing and he still has it.

  • no not Innes, there was another one....before Innes

  • Phat Klown

  • this is not the original music. It was AC/DC

  • yea but then h street got sued by them so they had to use this soundtrack

  • Inspirational skater for sure

I seen his video part (Hokus Pokus)

It was then I tried to learn as much as possible

    every trick/line he was performing

  • Actually to be fair. He's one of the best street sk8rs and I idealize this dude along with Natas. But Rodney Mullen was the first reall technical street dude. BUT THOSE 3 DUDES ARE THE FREAKING BEST IN MY BOOK.

  • holy crap, those 540s and cab over the table

  • part never gets old

  • his style is amazing! he was the first elegant skater and tecnical picnic tables, i have a friend who have a tatoo of his skate deck logo

  • I have known Matt for about 12 years and he is NOT any kind of a Nazi. He is married to a Persian woman who is a Moslem, in fact they will be here for dinner tomorrow and he is the nicest guy and best pool player you ever met!!!

  • How offen does he skate???? He is my skateboarding ICON... I first saw Matt in shackle me not in 90..(THEN HOKUS POKUS)I would watch them everyday after school before i set off to skate myself. Matt influenced my way of life though his style and tricks. In my eyes he will always be the SKATE GOD.. I still get excited seeing him do a simple 180 kickflip to smith on a little launch ramp( what style ) YEAH MATT!!!

  • oh I love Flogging Molly too !!

  • I always asked myself if he's a Nazi?!

  • y cuz of that skinhead

  • no duh.

  • hey Matt Hensley is the accordian playing in my Favorite band, Flogging Molly.

  • What happened to H-Street, it had all these awesome skaters.

  • Mike Ternasky left H Street is what happened and took the top guys from the team, Sal Barbier, Matt Hensley and Danny Way. Tony Magnusson didn't run H Street as well without him and other guys from the team left for other World companies like Koston to 101.

  • What a shame.

  • that "shame" created Plan B. So it wasn't all that bad

  • I had a bootleg of "Not the new..." and it had F**king AC/DC "Shoot to thrill" for this part.

Hensley was one of the first "Real" tech street guys, not like the Bones Brigade Vert dudes posing with Launch ramps and steez. It was back in 1986-1987.

  • What was it about Hensley that made everyone want to be like him? Everyone kept their head shaved for about 10 years because of him.

  • @Nominay He got all the skaters wearing chain wallets back then too which at that time was only trendy among bikers.

  • that's an awesome video part, modern wouldn't be anything without matt hensley. the op ivy song was a good tough.
