I live in North Bay, Ontario, where Liam grew up. I was always aware of him, but until watching this video had no idea that he had such a sum of incredible talent. A kid from a city with 50,000 people, and he makes it to fucking broadway? Pure talent.

I've always thought that if they really want to cast Billy's of a different race, then they need to at least re-cast the older Billy as well, it takes me as an audience member out of the moment. Much less the fact that he has a white Dad, mom, grandma, and brother.

@sinatrabooth89 I agree about re-casting the older Billy (at the very least they could give him a wig and some darker make-up). As far as the others, I suppose he could be of mixed race (with the mother being black) and his older brother might only be a half-brother. Either that or he could be adopted. Okay - I know none of that is in the script, I'm just trying to come up with a logical reason that he's black when the rest of the family is white.

@somegalfromcan Right. I just find it odd that Billy Elliot is really one of the only shows that would cast like this. It really takes me as an audience member out of the moment when you see something like this. For example I spoke to one of the Broadway Billy's, Jacob Clemente and he said that he was told that he was too white to play simba, that is the way the theatre world works. Either only cast white Billy's, which would be regionally accurate, or recast the entire family.

No, his singing isn't 'American Idol Winning,' but Billy is supposed to be, like, 11. I'd be dissapointed if he came out sounding perfect.

First of all, I'm Canadian and that was the rudest thing I've ever heard anyone say about Canadians. "They don't have much passion or talent" oh wow. Secondly I've seen Liam Redhead perform Billy Elliot twice in New York and he was so much more "on" than he is in this video. I'd have to say whatever performance this came from he must have been having an unfortunately off day. He's a phenomenal kid, don't criticize from watching a YouTube clip.

@rlee1976 you have know idea how much pressure is on these boys to do this performance and trust me it is one of the hardest performances ever!!! i've done it!!! so get over the fact that he tripped!! everyone does. the good thing is that he didn't let that ruin his whole performance!!!! Aw he seems SO sweet, and an AMAZING dancer! But two questions:

1) Is it just me or was angry dance slower here?

2) Do they always have those background vocals for electricity "like electricity sparks inside of me and Im free Im free"...It almost sounded like a recording of Trent singing in the background or something?
