unfortunately I had to have this 10 days after my daughter was born. Turns out, I had extreme abdominal pain & was admitted. After an MRI, I found out I had a placenta increta. This happens when the placenta from the baby leaves behind a piece that has embedded itself in the uterine wall. I had no choice but to undergo an emergency partial hysterectomy. Im 24 and I wanted another child eventually. It was take a chance that could be fatal or have this & survive.

@lakersownsuns there are many reasons a woman would have a hysterectomy; most often it's because of cancer, excessive uterine bleeding after a D & C, and fibroids just to name a few. There is tons of info on the web you can look up. And @ Kudos2theworld: Having a hysterectomy is not normally performed as a form of birth control. A tubal ligation is a much less invasive way to become sterile.

I am a cancer survivor and i had this surgery plus what they call an exploratory were they see wheather it just in one spot or it has travel. It is worse than givin birth. 1yr. and 10 months later I am still counting my blessings because I found a great Dr. The Dr. whom I saw 6 yrs. prior did not do her job and that it why I ended up in such bad shape. I could have sued the hospital but I live everything to God and hope the Dr. does abetter job in the future,

It supplies blood to other parts of the female genitalia during sexual arousal. When removed a woman will never experience the pleasure of the uterus contracting during an orgasm. All women can experience uterine contractions during an orgasm if they want to. Cancer is the only time a woman should have her uterus removed.

@MultiNelson69 Sorry but Cancer is not the only reason behind a hysterectomy. There are many different reasons why this proceedure helps woman. Wanting it however is not a good reason. I have been in severe pain going on 7 years due to fibroids in which I was told not to worry about them in less the 6months to a year the fibroid has grown over 3 cm. you don't even want to know about bowel movements. The time has come for this proceedure so I can play with my kids again w/o pain.

My own personal opinion on this matter is doctors often tell women not to worry about fibroids unless they r causing problems. By the time they r causing problems a hysterectomy is a blessing. I think there r other options, but ultimately women need 2 do what they feel most comfortable with. I personally would not want a hysterectomy and would try every option to preserve my uterus. I wish you a speedy recovery and hope all goes well. Your happiness is what is most important.

A hysterectomy will cure that, but you can't get pregnant after that so it's not a surgery to be entered into lightly . . . not to mention that you go through instant menopause and all the wonderful things that come with it.
