I personally see vehicles as I see people. It is not about what you look like on the outside. It is all about what you are offering from the inside. The Subaru as an automobile itself possess capabilities all in one package that no other automobile manufacture has matched to date. To me, Subaru stands for Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive. This AWD technology is among the best in the world. This technology is what makes all Subarus very attractive to me. Their shells are just pluses to me.
I'm going to finally buy one after about a year of looking at cars...first order of business...do doughnuts on the beach while actually eating doughnuts...
I guess we all have our opinions. I think it looks great - much better than the older ones. Unfortunately, when you develop a 'style' it will turn some people off. However, your comment is totally wrong. A fallen apart, rust bucket, 1989 Dodge Colt would look like a POS and the comment would be appropriate. In this case, it looks like a solid utility vehicle that was named Motor Trends SUV of the year for 2010. Some POS LMAO - save your comments for Chrysler
I am blown away by the number of people who think this car is ugly??? It is hands down the best looking outback design to date.. This car is so damn sexy and masculine! I have the 2001 Legacy Outback VDC Limited and I only bought it for driving in Utah and catering to my outdoor needs, I've never considered the outback to be attractive just functional. As soon as I can find one I'm buying the 2010 3.6R. All you quirky Subie owners with your ugly wagons need to come around
Have you ever stopped to think that what's ugly to you may not be ugly to others? Personally, I preferred the "quirky" wagon design of previous outback models. The 2010 Outback is too refined, too SUV-like, and worst of all, too ordinary IMO. Subaru shouldn't be using the Outback to appeal to the yuppie crowd, and should go back to appealing to down to earth folks. Just my opinion, of course.
own 2,5 CVT 'Limited' Europe version. all I can say that I'm way too happy after Forester that was a brilliant car for 5 years for the family. Although I'm not that happy with it's new exterior design. Interior and driving is perfect for me.
If u get the 2.5i limited with navigation and all the bells and whistles it is like $33,000 and it gets 22/29 mpg so it"s and all around great car and the design is nice. The 3.6r jacks the price up it"s all engine.
@Mullitman24 Although this is true, the 2.5 flat 4 struggles in some instances due to the Outback's power to weight ratio. A fully loaded Outback weighs approximately 3,650lbs which is substantial for most 4 cyllinder engines to muster effectively whether inline or flat. Although the 3.6 is slightly more thirsty and cost more, it does not weigh a whole lot more than the 2.5. The larger results to approximately 86 more hp and 78 more lbs ft. of torque which is more appropriate for its weight.
@Mixedbreed3 I have the 2.5i CVT 2011 with 170HP and 170 lb/ft It does pretty well. It can haul a car load only thing is CVT hinders off-road, not the Boxer engine.
This is probably the best car you can get for this type of money. One of the things i like is that the Navigation system is freestanding so it actually has a dedicated stereo and climate system. I cant stand having all in ones like Toyota and Honda do. Can't stand having to go through the nav system to adjust your climate and stereo settings. Anyway Subaru has one of the best AWD systems around. I'll be looking at some later this year.
The rack is poorly executed. I'd like to imagine with Subi's given audience they could have avoided the down falls. Then again it's not the best looking re-design either so go figure.
That said, the issue is really bar spread. Beyond that, what's keeping kayakdude from throwing Thule 4502 Crossroad feet on there and some 58", 65", or 78" load bars.
Nice vehical but it is very missleading putting a kayak and bike on the roof. That is all that will fit up there. Being a family of 4 we can not take out kayaks on this car do to the lame rack that can not accomodate after market tulle or yakama racks like the older outbacks. Subaru says" well it can carry 2 kayaks" We now need to buy another vehical that can actually get our kayaks to the river.
kayakdad325, I noticed you've commented on just about every 2010 Outback video regarding the roof rack. Have you checked Yakima's website recently? I put in 2010 Outback in the rack builder to see if you were correct cause I'm interested in this car. The site pulled up something called a Rail-Grab to use as towers. If they work then obviously you can use whatever length bars (to an extent) you need.
Maybe you could get a trailer if that didn't work...just a thought to ease your torment.
I own a 2000 limited outback. It's rounding 10 years old, and no major problems. I can cruise on a sandy beach, on dirt roads, or in mud. I've had no major problems. Mine has faux wood, too. You actually have to be inside the vehicle to really get a feel for it. I'm not a huge face of this design, though. The 2008 was the nicest looking outback, it was pretty sharp. Mine is more rounded and soft, but still a solid machine. I love my outback. I would definately buy another.
eeehhhh.... Looks like someone from toyota designed this.... front is way ugly (for an outback), back looks european (nice) but its a really tall car. Interior looks subaruish but cheap fake looking materials (metals) maybe it would grow on me, maybe not... I would rather have the Forester I think. The Audi A3 quattro is a nice transition to the outback that I think could be better (but not cheaper in maintenance)
Too bad they don't offer any nice colours or the two-tone colour schemes of old. The Outback has gone way "up" market. Interior is nice but not Audi nice. I wish they would offer a Legacy wagon.
I like it...Yeah, it does'nt look like the Outback we are used to but its not ugly as some would make it out to be. I would definitely buy this car and not just for the Subaru reliablity factor.
my dream!
