  • The German is terrible. Learn it or get out. None of this fake bullshit.

  • @ZexionLovesVexen She actually speaks German pretty fluently, having majored in it in college and lived in Germany for a while.

  • omg..Regina is my favorite singer...I love this song..and Amanda is my second favorite:)

  • yes regina is russian, so she sings in russian. but amanda is german so she said something else in german, which you can see above. she is talking to regina.

  • The lyrics are in Russian sillyhead. I like Amanda but her voice sounds kind of bad on this cover. I think it's cause it's live though.

  • ITS RUSSIAN NOT GERMAN! Jesus, Regina Spektor is RUSSIAN! >: |

  • @XXXBootstrap awesome, right? i guess ap changed it for her cover. idk, i think it's kickass!

  • @XXXBootstrap listen closely, this isn't what regina originally sings. Amanda Palmer really sings those german lyrics here

  • @XXXBootstrap lol in original song lyrics are russian but in this cover girl sing in german.

  • could someone put the german part in german? thank you

  • Not a big fan of the German. Palmer is no Pasternak.

  • She made a valid attempt but no one can top regina, it is her song after all :)

  • Great cover and I love the exchange of German for Russian, but I didn't "Like" it until Amanda had to stop and say that she'd fucked up - it's not a true Amanda Fucking Palmer cover until she's fucked up at least once!

  • I love how Amanda switched out the Russian for the German and makes it hers. She doesn't just play the song, and try to match it, she pays her respects to an amazing artist. That's what a cover should be.

  • @sudachinohi it wasn't just a german translation of the russian phrase. it was entirely different. the original russian piece is the first stanza to a poem by pasternak.

  • @tehfreckled1der I know. You misunderstood what I meant :)

  • holy shit im soo happy this exists

  • AFP covering my fav Regina Spektor song.

    I need this strength today.

  • This is awful.

  • Hmm

She played the piano very well, but her singing style clashed with the song

She rather butchered it. This is a testament to the fact that it is practically impossible to make a successful cover of one of Regina Spektor's songs.

  • she speaks german? what an honour for us germans! thanks, manda.

  • Thanks for posting.

  • Was machst du, Amanda? :)

  • the piano is sick, your voice is scary xD sorry!

  • hahahahahaahh!!!!

  • I want Amanda Palmer to go on American Idol and tell Simon to fuck off.

  • The german part is pretty difficult to understand and sometimes confusing, but she sings:

    What do you do Regina?

    The aged don't understand us

    What do you do Regina?

    The mistaken are still right

    What do you mean Regina?

    The coldness has valued us

    What do you do Regina?

The Ice Age comes, the flood burst

  • @littledevillaura I heard it a bit differently, honestly, I heard:

    What do you do, Regina?

The old ones, they don't understand us.

What, what do you do, Regina?

The false one has judged us. (I heard "Die Falsche hat uns eingeschätzt")

    What do you do, Regina?

The cold one has introduced us. (again, I heard "Die Kalte hat uns eingebracht")

What, what do you do, Regina?

The Ice Age comes, the flood shattered. (zerbrechen really could be either one, but to me "shatter" sounds better).

  • what's the german part she sings?

    what does she say?

  • hehe she goes OH instead of ARE but it's cool :)

I love her passion in the line of french.

She's like Reginas evil twin in this song :)

But,what is the thing she says to/about Regina??

  • its frikin russian. wtf?

  • @WeLuVnLt4894

Not Russian, she sings this part in German.

  • @WeLuVnLt4894 well shes not regina and cant speak russian...so instead of butchering the russian language she sang in german.

  • @cashmoney21892 i know she doesn't speak russian, but she could have at least attempted a german translation of the russian passage, which was an homage to boris pasternak. it was the first stanza to one of his poems.

  • Does anyone speak German? Russian part wasn't Russian! Did she make that up? By the way I didn't really like her singing (sorry but this isn't your style)

  • it's german ,but I don't understand it either.

  • What exactly would be the point of doing a cover of this? SO VERY MUCH LESS IMPRESSIVE than the original!

Like listening to a heifer, absolute butchering this song.

    1 star!

  • Amanda Palmer and Regina Spektor are actually really good friends. I bet she wouldn't appreciate you calling her friend "like listening to a heifer"

  • @QueenChickie ...I think, secretly, she'd

    a) find it hilarious

    b) know it to be true

  • I actually liked this version a lot. Her struggle with the vocal range adds a weird sort of passion to the song. Not everyone is the vocal virtuoso that Regina Spektor is. But yeah, the original is better.

  • amanda has a specific independent way she plays on her keyboard. it's suppose to sound violent, and brutal, in a well put together way, which it does

  • Doesn't work well on a keyboard, imo. Amanda Palmer does a decent job, though.

  • You, sir/ma'am, need to calm down.

  • Well, now I'm effin' pissed.

    ):<

  • GOOD

    >O

  • I didn't like this at all lol.

  • I love Amanda Palmer/Dresden Dolls... but Holy Shit, this is Regina's song. Didn't enjoy this.

  • Oh. my. god. Awesome piano, terrible version though.

  • I must say that Amanda's cover is really individual X) Regina's better of course, but I like this version, too.

  • i love them both regina and amanda!!

    they're great!!!

  • i don't like her "uh". regina's is so graceful, hers is like really loud and low.

  • some serious over-pronunciation of the é in déluge...

and no-one can play piano like Regina.

    but apart from that...

    not too bad!!

Quite a good cover infact, imo. :)

  • Shes awsome at piano, but i dont like her singing in this, she sings WAY to low, but at least in tune

  • She's performing it in the same key, so is singing the same as Regina for the vast majority...?

  • dude lol

regina and amanda are just my fav female artist

this is so amazing for me O_O'

(but what the hell was she singing in the russian part? and whats a deiluge?)

anyways love them soooooooooooo fricking much k3

  • Après moi le déluge - "After me, the flood".

  • @juliewayiero she changed regina's russian part to her own german lyrics. deluge is french for flood ...apres moi le deluge. it means, after me, the flood.

  • @cashmoney21892 i know what DELUGE means, right... i was just joking cause it sounds like she puts an extra i after 'de'... sounds like DEILUGE.

  • @juliewayiero oh.... o.O my badd

  • Comment removed

  • @juliewayiero apres moi na deluge is french for after me comes the flood. and in regina's original the russian portion is the first stanza to a poem by boris pasternak. which translates to:

Black spring! Pick up your pen, and weeping,

Of February, in sobs and ink,

Write poems, while the slush in thunder

Is burning in the black of spring.

  • @tehfreckled1der again, i was joking cause amanda puts an extra 'i' after 'de', so it sounds like 'deiluge', not 'deluge'

about the russian part, i wanted to know what amanda was singing in german

i know the russian part, but thanks anyway ^^

  • Comment removed

  • @juliewayiero mine too!:D

  • @juliewayiero deluge (in french)= flood, Après moi le déluge = after me comes the flood

  • @TheKeranos okay x.x thanks, but i know french :p

i was just being annoying, because amanda doesn't pronounce it right.

  • too butch

  • Is it just me or does the non-English part mention Regina?

  • the russian part is not russian anymore! is it german?

her version is not bad... but it's not really great, there's not really a lot of nuance. Her version of On the Radio is much better, much sweeter

  • her version is fucking fantastic! (there's no "nuance" but it's about her voice....!!

  • Yes German...

  • amanda and regina. what more could a girl ask for?! =D

  • lol *halfway through song*

    fuck i fucked that up!

    love this woman

  • Amazing!!!
