Ha ha, that bass player is nuts, I love his playing and his energy. These guys easily nailed a classic surf rock song, and for that they get major props!
It really does. That's the power of a good bassist. It's just a shame that most modern rock bands don't take advantage of all the instrument has to offer.
This is on fire!! The waves are still burning. This lead guitarist just smokes. His riffs are so strong, confident, they rip. He's having as much fun as it's legal to have, playing music he obviously enjoys and loves to wail on. Don't know if they ever recorded albums, but they should have.
Actually Misirlou means a Muslim Egyptian girl in Greek. Its derived from the Turkish Misirli which means an Egyptian guy or girl. The Greek adapted versions Μισιρλής(guy) Μισιρλού(girl) has the -ού suffix which is indigenously Greek, and is used to make feminine forms of adjectives ending in a) --ης and b) --άς. ;)
In Greek there is a category of words adopted from Turkish in which the feminine suffix --ού is compulsory, and that is precisely the Mισιρλής type. The suffix --λής(male) and --λού(female) are an interesting extension of the --ού suffix in that it always has an --λ-, and the reason for this of course is that Greek has adopted -- en bloc -- words containing the Turkish suffix --lI, and, secondarily, even made it productive.
Greeks differentiate between Egyptian Muslims and Egyptian Christians. In Turkish Misirli is used for both all Egyptians no matter ones religion or geneder. This is not the case in Greek. An Egyptian Christian in Greek was Egyptios for men and Egyptiotissa for women; an Egyptian Muslim in Greek was Misirli for men and Misirlou for women. Greeks have male and female forms in their grammar.
The -ού suffix is indigenously Greek, and is used to make feminine forms of adjectives ending in a) --ης, b) --άς c) -λής. Misirlis=male form and Misirlou=female form in Greek. The title of the song is derived from the Greek Misirlou=Egyptian Muslim Girl.
Good question. This guy is all over Dick Dale. He has, by far, the most pleasing and technically sound version of this song I have ever heard. A guitar player.
Also resembles an extended live recording of miserlou Bobby Fuller's band recorded in the early 60's, which is probably one of the best versions I've ever heard.
I've seen these dudes before... unbelievable!!! Japanese!!! That guitarist has the chops! Have you seen that Crazy Beagle vid with the miserlou soundtrack?

Rayman's version came from The Black Eyed Peas' single "Pump It," the most famous versions are probably Dick Dale's and the Beach Boys'.
