  • I used to watch them on the Lawrence Welk Show. I had a set of paper dolls of them. Wish I still had that set now. I used to love watching them and also the Lennon Sisiters.

  • fabulous

  • Baby boomer here too...just heard of the McGuire sister's. But i think they only sang together and ended up on on Dean Martin for their finale. Great harmony!

  • what year?

  • The ladies' first release on Coral (60917) early '53. Billed as "THE THREE MCGUIRE SISTERS", the flip was "ONE, TWO, THREE, FOUR". The rarer 45 is in my collection. I have never seen this released as a track in any cd compilation. It was released as one of four cuts in their first 45 7 in. EP. I do agree, the "best trio that ever performed".

  • The best album in my opinion was the one they made for kids called "Holiday" I'm 65 and my sibs and I still sing each song (and know all the words) to every tune! There was one for every holiday - a real classic! If it's still available they should bring it out for kids today.....better than Marlo Thomas's Free to Be Me

  • Godfrey was such a pompus dweeb relic - never have cared much for his , delayed lack of charm or lathargic casual lack of style , a matter of fact radio romeo to the 50's house wives , the sort of guy who you probably would "forget" to invite to your Saturday back yard BBQue , a nose breather

  • This originally aired in 1953.

  • The one on the right!

  • Flaming heck, how good was that.

  • American Idol can't even compare to The Arthur Godfrey Show of the 50's. So many famous singers/performers appeared on his shows. The Mcguire sisters had the best trio harmony ever. Great old footage, thanks for sharing!!!

  • Wow perfect harmony ! They sound like one voice!

  • GREAT!

  • They are the best trio that ever performed.

  • They had even rehearsed getting up from their chairs and walking over to Godfrey in unison! Coral was trying to figure out how to best present them. The record was lovely but not a big hit. It turned out the McGuires were made for, of all things, r & b and finally had a hit with "Goodnight Sweetheart Goodnight." Then it was on to "Sincerely" and hit after hit after hit.

  • The surname is McGuire--not McQuire.

  • Great to see this. They had not really found their sound or look yet. Oddly, despite the threat of nuclear war and the Korean War and horrible fascism of Macarthy hearings it was somehow a more simple and orderly time. Or does it just seem so in the face of a very complex, over technocratic world with a new terror???? At least singers really sang and either had voices or were out. Now there are big stars making zillions who cannot sing but there is digital tech and tons of gimmicks.

  • You are absolutely correct "globalman" about singers then and many so call singers today. I couldn't have said better.

  • Hooray !! I'm a first generation Baby Boomer and these shows take me back to a simpler time. Keep on keeping on and Thanks for the memories !!

  • Thank you!
