I agree on the fact most people worry about "breaking in" rifle barrels too much, but could not bring myself to throw a rifle around like that even if its not mine!
100% percent of shooters concerned with the proper "Break-In" procedure would be well served to learn the proper trigger press procedure first. don't blame your equipment, blame your abilities.
Busheler has done more to dispel the break-in myth than the whores on 7th Ave. Why I asked one of the whore's how she broke in her barrel and she pretty much bitch slapped me to give me an example of the method. Breaking in isn't just about rifles. Remember that men.

Depending upon the manufacturer of the firearm that you purchase you might or might not have to break-in the barrel. The purpose behind a good barrel break-in is to remove the tooling marks within the lands and grooves and to extend the life of the barrel. kimber polishes their bores to nigate this before putting them on the market. Therefore it is not needed.
Shooting is easy,for those who actually do it and the Mall Ninja Window Lickers,will never have even the faintest inkling to a first fucking clue.
But the beauty is...that fact doesn't deter their showcasing that stupidity,long,loud,often and with conviction.

@phrankus2009 Not necessarily. There are videos here of US Optics scopes (~$2000 scopes) being THROWN down a hill onto dirt and rocks multiple times in a row without losing their zero. Any decent scope will pass that test. Note: Tasco, Weaver, Redfield, Counter Sniper, BSA etc. are not good scopes.
Yeah, it was intended as humor/condescension. Too many people pass on poor advice about "barrel break in" procedures as gospel when there has been zero hard data produced about it either way. When one considers the origin of the procedure, it kind of discredits the whole notion. My last two rifles were fired without break-in. One is sub MOA, and the other just printed a .998 inch group (6 rounds) at 600 yards.

My fathers Remington 700 (270) looks worse than this guys rifle after he tossed it. My paps rifle has been through the worst shit for over 30 years and it's more accurate (honestly) than more than 90 percent of the rifles I have shot or have seen others shoot as far as hunting rifles go still to this day. I have noticed that the harmonic oscillations get better if you bury the gun in pig shit for a week and drive over it with a lawn mower about 3 time then pour carbolic acid down the barrel.
When I shoot a new gun for the first time I drive a wooden plug down the barrel with a hammer then put in 3gr extra powder.
ALL of my guns will hit the broad side of a barn on the 5th shot.

Depending upon the manufacturer of the firearm that you purchase you might or might not have to break-in the barrel. The purpose behind a good barrel break-in is to remove the tooling marks within the lands and grooves and to extend the life of the barrel. kimber polishes their bores to nigate this before putting them on the market. Therefore it is not needed.

someone once wrote that bruce lee said something like this:
if you want to learn how to swim, you've got to get into the water.
if you want to learn how to do a sidekick or a roundhouse kick--you kick--no need to do 50 leg raises or deep knee bends.
likewise--if you want to "break in yer barrel", you've got to shoot, and shoot aplenty...

@phrankus2009 Not necessarily. There are videos here of US Optics scopes (~$2000 scopes) being THROWN down a hill onto dirt and rocks multiple times in a row without losing their zero. Any decent scope will pass that test. Note: Tasco, Weaver, Redfield, Counter Sniper, BSA etc. are not good scopes.
Oh yes, on topic, barrel break-in is a myth.

Of course, there will be many exceptions ... many milspec and other hi-end options.
And, You will need expensive mounts (rings/base et.al.) to make a firearm "Battle Tough".
This video (to me) is (hopefully) intended as humor, rather than as "actusl (sincere) generic advice".
But your typical (mainstream) Bushnell or Weaver scope and rings are not going to "hold up", to such abuse.
The producer has a point, tho - - "Just pull yer head outta yer ass, and shoot, dammit!".

Yeah, it was intended as humor/condescension. Too many people pass on poor advice about "barrel break in" procedures as gospel when there has been zero hard data produced about it either way. When one considers the origin of the procedure, it kind of discredits the whole notion. My last two rifles were fired without break-in. One is sub MOA, and the other just printed a .998 inch group (6 rounds) at 600 yards.

My fathers Remington 700 (270) looks worse than this guys rifle after he tossed it. My paps rifle has been through the worst shit for over 30 years and it's more accurate (honestly) than more than 90 percent of the rifles I have shot or have seen others shoot as far as hunting rifles go still to this day. The point of the video isn't to toss your rifle and to treat it like shit (I wouldn't do it myself), but basically shoot the damn thing and clean it. Get over the "mumbo jumbo" bullshit.

I knew I broke mine in wrong... dangit... Is it going to hurt it if you threw it on dirt instead of rocks? I did that but I never clearly heard the harmonic oscellations due to the dirt... Any tips on how I may be able to fix my possibly damaged rifle barrel?

Ha, I love it!! My eyes get sore sometimes at the range from constantly rolling them so damn much watching some guy fire a few rounds, punch the barrel, and repeat this procedure for hours on end. It's even worse and most ridiculous when I see some idiot with a Bushmaster AR15 doing the same fucking thing with his piece of shit barrel.
I think a little marring, knicks, bangs and scratches give a rifle some much-needed character :)
