FANTASTIC track - a real favourite. It takes me back to an overland bus trip to Kathmandu that I did in 1976. The tape (remember those lol?) was being played so much, the driver rationed us listening to it! Great music, great days.
One of the best lyrics citing personal mental health issues ever!!! Wow! These words have always been important but never so much as now in this world where people are being prompted to come 'out of their shells' and carry on and live their lives as best as they can. Thank you Roger
great vocalist ,musician , composer, and brilliant arranger..he could've done without the new age -ish / zoro-ish white shirt, but other than that..simply brilliant !
@laughing4younce A Loser? Really? Hardly...He wrote the BEST songs as far as I'm concerned...and his voice IS the voice of Supertramp...period. I.M.H.O of course...why are you even here if he's such a loser artist?
Actually, he had wanted to to tour with Rick in the 'it was the best of times' tour, but Rick declined the offer, because he already had Mark Hart as the second singer and was content with that. Also, don't forget that Roger and Roger both wrote a fair share of the songs of their band and it's all in their rights to perform those. Of course you only state an opinion, but I'd advice to you to see it through other glasses again, see if that changes your rather harsh opinion...
I absolutely love this song and your singing. What a great life we all have. Memories are precious. This is one of my best. I sang this song a million times. I feel the vibration in my body when this plays. Absolutely Awesome. A memorable time in my life and millions more.

Hey you are never too old to take a trip down memory lane and listen to youtube!! I graduated in 1976 and I Love it!! Roger Hodgson has always been an amazing performer and always will be!! :) My now young adult kids enjoy a lot of the old classics...
for me roger and co is my higher power, they push me up when im down and nobody to turn to. They saved my life many times. and im am not a nutcase, just a big fan
I remember seeing them live in Sydney at the Hordern Pavillion in 1974 or 75 and they were fantastic - their live show sounded just like the recorded version. Still to this day I regard it as the best live concert I have ever seen.
Breakfast in America sort of sucked. Not the best of efforts. Crime of the Century and Crisis? What Crisis was their finest hour. I saw them live in Montreal 3 times. They would change instruments mid song... each one could play the others instrument perfectly without loosing a beat. Never saw anything like it and probably never will again one of the most under rated groups of that era IMO.
This song is such a blast from the past....I don't know whether to laugh and smile or cry...I miss the old days so bad. I feel like a dinosaur in this day and age.

I ADORE THIS SONG and love this live version......Roger you have no idea how much this song has helped me lately, thank you thank you thank you!!!!!!!!!
I've always had great respect for a musician who is confident and talented enough to perform solo ( yes I'm aware he's joined by another player here) and fill the song with sound while putting on a peak performance. John Prine is another excellant example, as there are many. That's my 2 cents.
Ya know, when I was ten years old I remember my sister and brother in law taking me to a Supertramp concert I was ten then , it didn't mean much to me as I was into Kiss and AC/DC and this song Hide in your shell came on and I thought what an odd song.Well now that I'm grown up I look back at this song and can't believe how much this song has helped me through the years, and ya know, I still remember every part of that great concert. I saw Supertramp in their farewell tour back in the 80's in Toronto at the stadium that then was by the lake. I won't ever forget that concert... it was the BEST! Roger Hodgson has such a friendly face and demeanor... I just wish I could hug him. With songs like this so many people can actually feel that someone understands them.... that is so important! Thanks Roger!
This is my favorite song of all time. I saw Roger live a few months ago and when he pulled this one out I actually teared up, haha. I'm 20 years old and when I moved out on my own a couple of years ago Supertramp and Floyd was all that got me through

This has been my favourite Supertramp song since I was a teen.... Crime of the Century was new back then...lol.
