Hey Mate - yeah I lost 20kg a few years back and got pretty into running etc through that. I was up to running about 80km a week but was loosing too much weight and started having some knee problems also so had to cut back. Recently discovered barefoot running and started running just a few kms 3 x a week with that and no more knee problems so far :)
@41DegreesSouth I have also had to deal with knee difficulties. I wear compression bandages every time I run now and it seems to keep them in check. Since we now have better endurance, we might try barefoot after the winter months.
@41DegreesSouth I have heard (and seen) of many injuries from people who think they can just start running the same distance barefoot as they did before. There is a good barefoot subreddit which I am starting to read too. It won't let me post it here but I will PM it to you.
@evanphi Yeah, I learnt quickly after the initial 2k run that it was more of a "make a conscious effort to rehab atrophied muscles" type deal, than a "just do it you'll be fine" type deal lol. I love it though. Cheers for the link!

@evanphi I think you'll get a kick out of barefoot, but research it and be prepared to start by running just 1 mile :)
I could run 20km shod (if my knees held up) but ended up in pain from running 2k barefoot - I thought my calves would never recover lol.
It's amazing how even great shoes make your muscles, tendons etc so appallingly weak from disuse.
