  • I once knew a Molly-O. :)

  • That's actually a Bob Dylan Song. MK has caompletely changed Dylan's melody but uses Dylan's lyrics.

  • @FTStratLP so actually this is MK song with dylans lysrics... stop licking dylans ass hole.

  • @BenFosterism

If you ears are musically enough, you can still hear pits and pieces of Dylan's original melody.

And BTW there is no need to start a Dylan vs Knopfler discussion. I like them both, whereas your musical horizon seems to be a bit narrow.

  • @BenFosterism This is neither a DSylan, nor a Knopfler song - at least not unless either of them was around in the 1800's when it was composed.

  • excelente, otimo, sabe muito.

  • C'est tres tres bon!!!!!!

  • @zoedaria your a fag

  • chanson sur une musique irlandaise chantée par un "grand"....comme il n'en reste plus beaucoup !!

  • @bosseforever ; In the wrong order but 100% agreed !

  • anyone know where i can find the guitar chords for look at maggie now by seamus kennedy????

  • Mark Knopfler + Traditional Irish music = Shamrock 'n Roll

  • Mark reveals maybe his irish side of his soul even if he is a scotish...

  • this song sounds irish to me. but its bluegrass..?!?!?

  • @killURaXe Bluegrass was born from the music of Irish immigrants

  • Irish hearts are still there guys come on, keep it up, please!

  • everything Mark does is GOLDEN!

  • Easily my favorite version of this song (I love these lyrics best, combined with Mark Knopfler), and it's one of my favorite Chieftains tunes. It's haunted me for 15 years, since it came out.

And I have just recently taken Lily West for my stage name as an entertainer! All because of this version of the song.

  • @juliebgood My dear, I totally agree with you, your taste is impeccable!

  • Just listen to

  • please finished it asap ,bec. the pictures fantastic, and the music I ve never heard

    thx

  • hmmm I've never heard this one before!! Which album is it from?

  • Comment removed

  • @PixelPerfect49 It's from The Long Black Veil, by The Chieftains

  • THE BEST SOUND...FOR EVER

  • Non'èla musica di lily of the west, ma the lakes of ponchartrain.... canzone di paul brady

  • this is'nt lilly of the west!!

  • @ArtPolo1990 yes it is.

  • This is not Lily of the west

  • I love when this guy plays this kind of songs...

    they're lovely!

  • Essentially the planet's best songwriter.

  • Lily of the West .. the name oy my boat........hubert from Germany

  • @bastardello13 yikes... is your boat sleepin around? :-p

  • So this isn't the Lily Of The West then. It's the Lakes Of Ponchatrain.

  • The Lyrics are Lily of the West, the tune its done to in this recording is Lakes of Pontchartrain

  • Thanks for the upload :)

  • Good but not in bradys league. Its just a rip off of bradys lakes of ponchartrain. Without the great voice. I do like it but its like comparing a good family car to a bugatti veyron.

  • @aftermath842 I would totaly disagree with your comment except to say that brady and Knopfler are not in the same leauge, that is true.

  • Can we get this straight, both song and tune are traditional and dont 'belong' to anyone......research the origins of this tune before commenting.

  • @aftermath842 How dare you bad mouth Mark Knopfler's vocalism.

  • Rare one, thanks for posting, dude :-)

  • this song reminds me of my sweet dear from ireland.

  • It's just THAT beautiful a song...

  • One of the sweetest and most creative versions I've heard! I've even heard rocked-out versions, it works well in any style it seems. Just lovely!

  • Irish traditional music is the only thing that survied that big fat celtic tiger its only thing money greed ignorance could'nt INFLUENCE ..im afraid Ireland of old is dead and gone ....Ireland has turned into americas 51st state...a nation fat selfish gobshites.. Lilly of the west and other great Irish ballads are alls thast left of beautiful old Ireland ...wonderful piece of music !!!

  • I second that comment Blackshamrock...

  • @Blackshamrock1974

its not totally gone yet man its still there in the remotest of regions but i know what you mean its dieing fast!!!

  • I'm so sorry that you feel that way. I play the old Irish tunes for my grandchildren, as was done for us when we were children - my father loved the bagpipes -we clap, dance, sing with loads of laughs...my 3 children learned Paddy McGhintey's (sp?) Goat from my father and are still singing it and teaching to their children...the true traditional Irish music will stayy as alive as we make it ourselves...and to hell with the rest of thee world...

  • @Blackshamrock1974 really wonderful

  • @Blackshamrock1974 They took the path that leads to prosperity. To many people, Ireland is synonymous with poverty, suffering and anguish. Ireland may have lost it's uniqueness, much like most of the world today, but they gained wealth, freedom and health. I say it's a fair trade.

  • @Blackshamrock1974

It is not gone. It lives through us . . . That is the old tradition . . .

  • @Blackshamrock1974 Dear god. You posted that in two-thousand-fucking-nine. The 'of old' is gone from any developed nation. The thing that bugs me the most is people like you that think you ever knew it in the first place.

  • @Blackshamrock1974

    Never a better word said....

  • @Blackshamrock1974 .... but priceless...the memory of the characters...i remember them and their wit that would make one cry with laughter.. ..they didn`t owe anyone anything, they had their pride and dignity.....if one could turn the wheel......i loved ireland.......well, i still do.......but all those cunts that caused this depression are still running free.. just think....the french revolution was because of the weight of a loaf of bread....wonder if it ever clicks with the irish....?????

  • @Blackshamrock1974 HEY NOW! i'm from America... but really, your pretty much right about us, well, the city-slickers anyway. I'm from a small town right around the middle of nowhere. Completely different story.

  • @Blackshamrock1974 have you emigrated or something... Ireland is still here with culture and artistic fullfilment... come home to a harty irish welcome of bacon, egg and sausages, guinness, powers gold lable, john b keane, liam clancy, luke kelly, W B yeats, Brian Freil and many more. We fill fight for you, love you and welcome you home...

  • Great!!!

  • i like this kind of music above all when mark play & sing it,i think its a celtic music.

  • one of our sailing songs

  • one of the best songs sung by mark!
