  • on problem 9xy-9x why can't I use 3x as common factor ? and turn it to 3x(3y-3)

    so when I check I distribute 3x multiplied by 3y,- 3x multiplied by 3= 9xy-9x???. problems like this just throw me off!!

  • @IZZE1 Yes, you are correct. You could use 3x as a common factor. As a general rule, though, we want to factor out the largest possible factor, and in this case that is 9x rather than 3x.
